Enjoy! To be honest, it wasn't quite what we were hoping for traffic wise. During a visit 30 years ago by my dad, there were Conrail trains stacked up all the way from Conway to downtown Pittsburgh and Conway Yard was overflowing. Maybe we just hit it on the wrong weekend or overall things just aren't what they used to be. It certainly didn't have the level of traffic that would've warranted a 3 track mainline much less the 4 tracks of years past. But even so, the scenery was unmatched and Pittsburgh definitely is unique in a great way!
Sadly, no, you were there on a pretty average weekend. Maybe 1-2 trains waiting from leetsdale-pittsburgh. The union railroad catch was very good though.
That's what we figured and it is a real shame. Industrial railroading in rugged mountain scenery is about as good as it gets but without trains it is hard to make a good video. Sad to think that CSX and NS fought to take control of Conrail yet 20 years later, both seem to have far less traffic than what they inherited :(
The hard part about Pittsburgh was looking around at all of the infrastructure and imagining what it must have been like 50-75 years ago. CP Penn was especially depressing seeing the rotting concrete surrounding the trench and the decrepit bridges. It must have been absolutely fantastic back in the day when the area was in its heyday especially when the pedestrian overpass was still there. Between the bridge at the south end of Conway and CP Penn, I don't think I would've ever gone anywhere else back when it was PRR.
Thanks Maurice! A fun time was had by all. Figures that I would come down with a terrible cold while there but I wasn't going to miss the scenery for anything!
Pardon us if we got foam on the camera when we were down there. The Union Railroad hauling a mile long hopper train was something we never thought we would see.
I'm 64 and this isn't what I saw in the '70s with container trains. But I saw finally if there wasn't Railroad would not exist much anymore. I'll watch any train without a caboose nowadays.
Awesome videos. Never have railfanned at Cp-Bell. Leetsdale is the best NS hotspot in Pittsburgh IMO. Have you ever railfanned west of Pittsburgh on NS?
Can you tell me the location the video was taken for the 4 track pass between the walls? Looks like northern park area. How often do trains run through there?
Beautiful trains , track sound , bell , loco honking !!!! amazing !!!! i am a rail fan from India. I shoot and post videos of high speed trains of Indian rail way. hope you will like it.
The only way we could keep track was to have a radio scanner with us. Whenever trains went through construction areas or were given instructions, they would give their train symbol. Otherwise, it is anyone's guess.
Yep home sweet home. Them coal hoppers are either going to the coke werks to load or there going all they down to the coal mine down there somewhere around the WV/PA border
One of the best videos of trains on UA-cam.
Thanks! High praise indeed and much appreciated.
growing up there I have always loved those railroad bridges in Pittsburgh. Nice video as well.
Time to sit back for a hour 25 mins and watch all this greatness

Including with what EHH is doing to CSX nowadays

Grazie!
The old PRR era signal bridge at CP-Rochester in Rochester, PA has been gone since June of 2019 & I do miss seeing that bridge
So cool 👍😁
Nice catches!
Nothing but perfect performance !!

I used to have a best friend who went Duquesne University, I will be sharing this with him!

Haha foam. But I don't see any. Lol
Look closer in slow motion. There is definitely drool in the shot ;)
Excellent video!
Every time I see the Virginian Heritage Unit, I'm hearing the theme music from the '60s TV series "The Virginian".

A train just derailed in Pittsburgh yesterday. Happy Easter everyone!
Northside rocks

Where the shots at ISLE taken from the pull off on 65?
How I'll remember Pittsburgh: 12:18 "Get over here!!!"
That was another railfan upset that the train was on the far track rather than doing down the middle ;)
I want to see it I live in the Baltimore revens
Can you tell me the location the video was taken for the 4 track pass between the walls? Looks like northern park area. How often do trains run through there?
Down by the stadium
Cool! Guess where I’m from lol
Super video
Do you think that it's worth to railfan in Pittsburgh im going there this summer
Also sweet profile picture
I mean if you're there already I'd recommend it, lot of cool places to go for sure :)
The steelers stadium
Your video looks much better than the footage from "Pittsburgh Mainlines." What kind of camera do you shoot with?
Beautiful trains , track sound , bell , loco honking !!!! amazing !!!! i am a rail fan from India. I shoot and post videos of high speed trains of Indian rail way. hope you will like it.
How do you obtain the train schedule names? such as 'C35', etc...is their a web data base? TY!
The only way we could keep track was to have a radio scanner with us. Whenever trains went through construction areas or were given instructions, they would give their train symbol. Otherwise, it is anyone's guess.
You can then look up the origination/destination of the train by googling NS/CSX train symbols.
