- A new royal book has been pulled from shelves in the Netherlands amid reports it named a member of the monarchy said to have raised questions about the skin colour of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son Archie before he was born.
Xander Uitgevers, which has published the Dutch translated version Endgame, by US-based British journalist Omid Scobie, said on Tuesday it was “temporarily withdrawing” it from bookshops in the country.
It added in a statement on its website: “An error occurred in the Dutch translation and is currently being rectified.”

I worked in the publishing industry, and let me tell you, NOTHING GOES TO PRINT WITHOUT THE AUTHOR'S APPROVAL. There are several back and forths of the "proof" as we call it, basically the manuscript, that go from the author to the publisher so they both can make the necessary changes. The manuscript only goes to print after the official sign off of both. Unless he's saying that the publisher put King Charles' name in without his knowledge and last minute, and by doing so he's opening himself up to lawsuits, Scoobie with the melting face just proved himself yet again a LIAR.
As a professional translator I can atest to this. Absolutely no way Omid is not part of this.
Same here. Proof read, proof read, , proof read, also - with content such as this there is usually vetting by lawyers who will advise if anything can be considered contentious and that could lead to litigation, . It is then up to the author and to the publishing house to make decisions.

Actually Meghan was doing something even worse than suggesting that someone was racist because they mentioned potential skin colour, what she clearly and extremely strongly suggested was that Archie “wasn’t going to get a title” because he was of mixed race.

Being Dutch and teacher of English as a foreign language. I know for a fact that most Dutch pupils are or have been taught English as a foreign language. Just as their parents were. So I highly doubt that it was error in translation. Great news that it has been pulled as especially MM gained a lot of sympathy in this country. Without people knowing most of the proven facts. So I'm glad that people's eyes hopefully have been opened somewhat and they can see the duo or trio in this case for whom and what they are.

I was in Amsterdam this summer and was amazed at how well everyone spoke English. Actually I was ashamed I don't have a second language myself.
That was not a mis-translation. That was an intentional "slip" to create interest in what may otherwise be a dreadfully researched and written book.

My son is married to girl who is from Colombia- she is beautiful with jet dark hair & olive skin colour - whereas my son is English as white as white & we as a family with them discussed who the baby would look like. Would he/she have dark skin or dark hair or take after their daddy, pale & blue eyed? Totally natural curiosity with married couples coming from different countries & opposite characteristics. This printing mistake is no mistake but a ploy to get people to buy the book. I didn’t waste my money buying Spare & I won’t be on this book.

Royal titles are granted and bestowed upon individuals by the reigning monarch, and it is within their discretion to grant, revoke, or modify these titles. Once granted, they typically remain in effect unless specifically revoked or modified by the monarch or through legislation
The Markles are doing a great job of ostracising themselves without the RF appearing as the villains.
The monarch can’t just revoke titles because he feels insulted. They would have to be caught trying to physically harm a member of the RF. The House of Lords isn’t going to be keen on Charles being allowed to take titles away without consultation as half of them just flaunt the titles and benefits but don’t do anything useful or constructive.

If there was 'an error in translation' with the Dutch version, then there would be 'an error in translation' with every other foreign language. The interpreters all get the exact same manuscript. This is just a PR stunt...and I don't see the point of the Dutch pulling the book from their shelves - unless it has been pre-ascertained that sales in that country would be so negligible as to not even warrant a poster for a single shop front.
And Charles was written in English. There was no error. I think is was an intentional “accident”. 😉

No one will ever convince me that this was done in error.
