Spider Crab Aggregation. St. Ives Cornwall, 2022

In the summer months these large crabs gather in shallow protected bays to moult their shells. Once they have moulted, their new shell is quite soft and leaves them vulnerable. By gathering together like this it helps protect them from potential predators through safety in numbers.
