I'm a mechanical engineering student and seeing him "descend into madness" was the most relatable thing I've ever seen. I've been there dude, I've been there and I know that pride of finally getting it to work.
I'm going to school for software engineering and I feel that on a personal level. So many times I've just thrown my face to my keyboard. "IT SHOULD WORK, THIS IS SO SIMPLE! WHY IS IT NOT WORKING?!?!"
I love how after adding all of the more expensive items to the DIY cloud, it still would be cheaper than the "cheap" bought cloud. Also looked simple and fun to do!
I said it once and I’ll say it again- you guys REALLY need to make durability and quality separate categories. Like, think of it in cups. Regular old cups. If you have one plastic cup and one glass one, the plastic cup is obviously more durable. But the glass cup is _obviously_ higher quality. In some cases (not all), what makes something higher quality might also make it less durable. Collector’s items, for example, that children shouldn’t play with because they weren’t made for that, vs kid's toys that are designed to be beat up.
very old comment, and i would agree have buy vs diy be about anything other than funky home decor. the vast majority of what they tackle is that, overpriced gimmicky decor, and with decoration, durability IS quality, because the function is all the same: to look good, to decorate. when that is it's only fucntion and you're not meant to be handling it too much anyways, i think durability and quality can be the same category, because quality decoration is only about how many spring cleanings it can take until it turns ugly.
@@s.i3na I don't understand what you disagree with? The first part of my statement was just facts.... Did you find a cloud puff light on Amazon that had a better rating then 3 stars? I was pointing out there are no cloud lights on Amazon that have good reviews so the one they choose to buy was still their best guess for a good buying option. But then, purchased products will always win in the “effort” category, while DIYs will generally win with “time”, so that whole category really is kinda pointless.
I guess the purchased products will win in the effort category but I think that's the point, when you're considering a buy vs diy you have to consider the time and effort it will take to buy the materials, get the equipment, and put it all together. So while it might be an obvious category it is still a necessary one.
Also it may be good to note that the $3,300 cloud which they use for comparison takes 4-6 weeks to be made and delivered, so that may also be a greater time/effort commitment than the cloud from amazon and the diy cloud
I appreciate how organic you guys are! Y’all give off a cool vibe that doesn’t feel forced or staged. You both are funny and sweet and creative and original!
I would have recommended putting either heat shrink tubing, electrical tape, or some hot glue over the solder connections to ensure that no shorting occurs.
When you revealed the fully covered cloud and it started lighting up I thought it was CG for a second! It looks amazing! I could definitely see myself making a mini version of this even with my limited skill set. Thank you both so much for all the great content!!!
I imagine someone else has mentioned this method already but we made one of these and used spray adhesive instead of hot glue. We found the hot glue cooled too quickly and it was very slow going getting the polyfill covering to stick well, not to mention we were burning through sooo many sticks. But the spray was super quick and a can goes a long, long way. A base coat made it easy to affix the polyfill all over instead of to lines of hot glue only, and you can use it to build up and layer more polyfill on top of itself too. Maybe this will be helpful to someone!

I’ve never seen a UA-cam channel that has as amazing Ads as this channel does. You guys make the best ads ever!! They always keep me interested and laughing so hard.. They are so creative and hilarious!!
The DIY shape is a perfect cloud! And I love the interactive lights and it looks like actual “heat lightning” you see inside or behind clouds, just in color. BUT, you should take some brown alcohol ink in a spray bottle and make the other into an actual turd lamp!
ya know, I already have the stuffing and the hot glue, now for the leds and the lanterns, I'M DOING THIS BWAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHAAHHA *HeY mOm AnD dAd CaN i BoRrOw ThE cReDiT cArD*
This is one of the best DIY episodes yet! You guys did a great job and I admire Evan for keeping it together despite spiraling into cloud-based madness!
Evan talking about burning his hand on hot glue when he was younger reminded me of when my friend purposefully stuck the metal end of the hot glue gun on my hand. We were about 10 and apparently she "didn't think it would be that hot".
I feel like this is one of the most useful Buy VS. DIYs because it’s the most easy one to make at home. You didn’t use any machines like the CNC or any workshop tools. Someone could buy the materials and most homes own a glue gun and make it at home. I think it’s so cool that you show some projects that are easy to make for people who aren’t dedicated crafters!
Love the Buy vs DIY series and hope it continues. Obviously, it makes the most sense to get things you'd want around the house with this and the cat products you've made so as not to end up with a bunch of useless clutter but I like that the things you've tried so far are good looking and challenge yourselves with skills/ ideas you've not tried much. It's really fun to watch, plus I'm sure you'll at least be able to give them away as great gifts if you run out of space in your garage/house.
The new “audience” part was the best idea!! And OMG the DIY version is SOOOO much better! Well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Love from Brazil (for another two weeks, then it will be “from Finland” ❄️😱)
“It’s been like a year since we last said hit the bell” mate that was last decade. I’m sorry I had to, we’re 10 days into 2020 and I’m still full of cheesy jokes.
When you two started the ad read bit, I thought for a second that the cloud was about to catch fire with that cgi smoke effect added. I figured it was hinting at it's potential doom.
It would be cool to see you guys try to improve the ‘buys’ when they turn out worse (or as bad as that turd)! Loved your version of this, I want to make one now.
At around 12:00 they talk about it calling it “poly fill”. If you actually paid attention to it. Edit: just to correct myself, it’s actually closer to 11:50. I was close, just missed on a few minutes.
your lamp is awesome!!! It's been a few months but my suggestion would be to mention the shipping and the time when you compare the price. I think that's the most fair because you (and the viewer) can judge if the saved money is worth the hours you spend on it and if shipping time was reasonable. "make something yourself in x hours with x amount of costs and materials" or "buy this thing for x money and wait x amount of time". i think the combination is what gives you the best money/time/worth ratio
Omg “I can make that” is my daily mantra. Whenever we go somewhere and I see something I love!! My hubby will say “let’s get it” and I’m like “Nah, I can make it. Why would I buy it?” And take a picture. Now… do I ever make the thing??? Shhhh….

@@snakekingjexxy ya lolllllllllllllllll I got triggered but I'm TRYING TO STAY CALM
The DIY shape is a perfect cloud! And I love the interactive lights and it looks like actual “heat lightning” you see inside or behind clouds, just in color. BUT, you should take some brown alcohol ink in a spray bottle and make the other into an actual turd lamp!
ya know, I already have the stuffing and the hot glue, now for the leds and the lanterns, I'M DOING THIS BWAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHAAHHA

mom: "honey... no. last time you borrowed it you burned the house down.."
Mom again: “And you dont have a car!”

What happened? Did u make it ??
This is one of the best DIY episodes yet! You guys did a great job and I admire Evan for keeping it together despite spiraling into cloud-based madness!
Your cloud looks so cute. I could see this in a child's bedroom (with the blue sky ceiling).
Ha!! I'd have this in a 31 yr old womans room!
When you and your partner have same interests.....Its magical
This literally describes the difference between my first (starter) marriage and the one I am in now (the keeper)
1:14 You can feel Katelyn's rejection for that box coming across 😅
I rejected that box so hard
Evan talking about burning his hand on hot glue when he was younger reminded me of when my friend purposefully stuck the metal end of the hot glue gun on my hand. We were about 10 and apparently she "didn't think it would be that hot".
My friend purposely burns him self with hot glue
Smoxthy pretty sure that’s self harm
@@smoxthybweh my friend ate school glue, cut off circulation to his head, and stabbed himself in the head with his pencil several times.
Raisin Bran eating school glue is normal

Wow. your lamp looks sooo good!
maybe instead of time being a category you add labor in as part of the "cost" for your DIY.
If I don’t end up with someone that looks at me the way Katelyn looks at Evan at 9:37 I don’t want it
🤣❤️
EvanAndKatelyn omg I love you guys, you are superrrr inspiring
This is the best Cloud lamp ive seen so far and it looks even better than the expensive one. Good Job to You, Love IT :D
I really like the time comparison as a theater tech cause sometimes you're comparing how long it'll take to order vs making it yourself
I was hoping to hear some thunder from the speaker but yours was definitely awesome, I am going to try to make this soon! Thank you for the tips!
OK that sponsor ad was hilarious 😂 that's how it's done ☝️
Haha thank you
Before I watched it I thought the diy cloud was a picture of a real cloud... I’ve been bamboozled!!
😂❤️
The editing just keeps getting funnier and funnier the longer I watch you guys, much enjoyed. :)

Evan: "There's a cotton one, and then there are turds,"
Me: uhh, turds?
The new “audience” part was the best idea!! And OMG the DIY version is SOOOO much better! Well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love from Brazil (for another two weeks, then it will be “from Finland” ❄️😱)
Thank you!
Nádia Moreira yeah, this makes me want to join Patreon and support so I can vote on future projects.
“It’s been like a year since we last said hit the bell” mate that was last decade. I’m sorry I had to, we’re 10 days into 2020 and I’m still full of cheesy jokes.
WE HAVEN'T SAID HIT THE BELL SINCE LAST DECADE! 😱😂
John Smith
You do you 😊
But it’s not a new decade
it's not easy being cheesy
You guys are the definition of couple goals. Frigging love you guys so much xxx
“All hail the glow cloud” ☁️ (Where’s my Welcome to Nightvale fans at?)
Literally the only reason I came to the comments. Thank you and All Hail the Mighty Glow Cloud.
All hail!
All hail!
All Hail!
All hail!
When you two started the ad read bit, I thought for a second that the cloud was about to catch fire with that cgi smoke effect added. I figured it was hinting at it's potential doom.
Haha oh no!
It would be cool to see you guys try to improve the ‘buys’ when they turn out worse (or as bad as that turd)! Loved your version of this, I want to make one now.
Thank you!
You two are amazing! Your relationship is beautiful, you both compliment each other!!!
*Me being super surprised Evan is planning stuff* “Worst case scenario we’ll just hot glue it back together” ahh, there it is
🤣👏

That “cotton” is likely not cotton. It looks like polyester fiber fill, so, plastic fiber.
Dawn Chesbro they said that
At around 12:00 they talk about it calling it “poly fill”. If you actually paid attention to it.
Edit: just to correct myself, it’s actually closer to 11:50. I was close, just missed on a few minutes.
Imitation cotton vs imitation silk
I am just glad there are LEDs used in paper lantin contact.
I always get so excited to see that you guys have uploaded!! Easily my favorite diy channel!!
thank you so much!
This was some of your best style of content, would be nice to see more of these brought back.
I’m so making this one! I have a friend who’s absolutely obsessed with clouds, she’d love it 😍
Good luck!
Legitimately one of the coolest things you guys have made! Love how it looks like little colorful explosions are happening every time someone talks!
This is my favorite video from you guys in a long time!!! What a cool project, and the reactions are priceless 😂
IT’S FLOODLE!!!!
your lamp is awesome!!!

She had the opportunity to say SOUND CLOUD and not hearing her say that made me sad
Haha, I'm not that clever
@@EvanAndKatelyn that's okay, words are hard the audience still loves you guys
it ain't diy if there isn't hot glue.
This really takes "man yells at cloud" to a whole new level
😂😂
Omg “I can make that” is my daily mantra. Whenever we go somewhere and I see something I love!! My hubby will say “let’s get it” and I’m like “Nah, I can make it. Why would I buy it?” And take a picture.
Now… do I ever make the thing??? Shhhh….
