Nah, we need diversity. I absolutely love a lot of modern metal sounds. Haste the day, Falling In Reverse, Architects, Spiritbox, Ice Nine Kills, etc. Could you imagine if metal never evolved? It would have really been dead long before it actually did "die out". There's still plenty of bands this raw you just have to search.

It's a great thing when music matches the meaning of the lyrics. It's like the sound of this song matches how God feels about proud lies in this world. It glorifies God and shows these guys are true artists, it brings comfort in a unique way.

Definitely! The dissonance in the music matches God's hatred of sin, and it also matches the spiritual battle that is going on inside believers when they are confronting their sin and sin nature.

These guys’s lyrics are just stunning when you know what they are talking about.
Lyrics Breakdown for the Video ‘Reject’ (from the CD Reborn)
      I set myself up

      But my
      self-pity is useless
and I’ll not entertain your ...
      Sickness!
      Sickness!
      --------
      [Explanation]
The heart is deceitful above all and sick who can know it. Jeremiah 17:9
Self pity leads to a sickness inside your soul, that can lead to bad decisions that you might end up paying for…for a very long time in this life, or even forever if you make a foolish choice to end it.
      --------
      Half-truths

      Reject
      all lies!
      Reject all
      reject all
      lies!
      Rebuke!
      --------
      [Explanation]
Depression brings about an attack from Hades, ‘Spiritual Warfare’. It’s not of God, it is demons from Hades/Sheol forcing their way into your mind. We must reject the demonic deception and not listen to lies telling us to commit suicide. We reject your lies demons.
Because we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against Principalities, against Powers, against the ruler of this world of ‘The Darkness’ (i.e. Satan),
against the spiritual pain-ridden evil, in the heavenly realms (i.e. Satan & demons accusing the brethren before God in Heaven. Also demons patrolling the numerous atmospheres). Ephesians 6:12 - translation
      --------

      Reject
      all
      lies
      --------
      [Explanation]
      Reject Hades lies.
Take hold of the Holy Spirit’s truths.
      Rebuke the demons.
Take hold of God’s name “Jesus Christ” that has authority over demons.

+nova lover only to your flesh, but it does not honor and exalt christ, it also allows demons to enter your life. dying fetus is poison to your soul. resist such music. pray and be delivered. let the love of Christ encompass you and give you light, as well as peace. He loves you today and tomorrow, and 50 years from now. On a side note, Impending doom is insanely heavy as well and more akin to the style of music that Dying that fetus puts out. the only difference is its good for your soul.

I can’t recall what year it was, but I remember hearing they headlined the Cornerstone Festival in Illinois (?) I think it was. I can’t even imagine the crowd and how wild it must have been. Massive crowd of fellow believers and also people looking for something deeper, all one family together under the lord, slam dancing to this.

Hard to believe I found anything on UA-cam from 2007 still on UA-cam. Crazy. I can also see where the inspiration for Demon Hunter came from. This is history right here.

Woo, this holds up great! Stuff like this and mortification and strongarm got me into metal back in the day; there was this Christian metal show called Blitzkrieg (... I don't get it either) that played on the local AR public radio station. I used to listen to it all the time, and they played this track to promote Reborn when it came out. Pretty sick opening. I'm not usually into metal core but this is definitely at the heavier/more dissonant end. Crazy to hear it again almost 30 years later!!

This band was one of the first to pioneer melodic metalcore BEFORE it's time. I listened to this in 2000 when I was 13 years old, I believe they came out with this album 1997. Bleeding Through was the next band, then Between the Buried and Me and The Black Dahlia Murder, Pig Destroyer, Luddite Clone, Into the Moat, you get the picture.

Disclaimer: Christian here. That being said, most Christian music is written at a third grader level. The language, the composition, the quality. The opposite of enticing.

@@zkateyguy So if this song was Djent you would have listened to it more? How is that even possible with it being over 20 years old? Certainly you would have listened to it at some point (pre-Djent era) and thought "this sounds really cool!" Even if you found it after Djent was established, you still would have thought it was cool. If you dismissed the song as not being Djent enough, then refer to my first point: the song is from over two decades ago. It can't sound exactly like a genre that hasn't been invented yet.
This song chugs pretty damn low for any era. There's no reason to think this can't be considered Proto-Djent. There's band and artists in the 1960s that were doing elements of Heavy Metal and Electronica before the terms were coined. Something has to start somewhere.
