    I had been requesting a high output bag from Coloplast! I had to switch brands after a subsequent surgery and my stoma was moved slightly. Made a huge difference and my Coloplast SenSura system wasn’t working well. I wanted to try Mio, but they had no high output pouch for my ileostomy. I just happened to look it up today and much to my surprise, found what I was looking for. I have an extremely high amount of output. I use a night drainage system, too. So many nights I have more than 2 liters!
    I hope those samples get here quickly!

    I’ve been using this bag at night for awhile now but during covid when I was mostly home, I started wearing it everyday, and now I find the maxi bag fills up too quickly. Lol! it’s honestly the bomb! Especially for camping and road trips. It takes a bit more effort to wear it in public if you want to hide the plug because that’s honestly a weird lump if it hanging down your leg, hehe. I have found even times when my output is thick it’ll still pass through. As long as you chew well. The plug is no smaller than hole of my stoma. I switch between the HO and maxi bag so I can get many wears out of each bag even after changing my flange.

    I am just trying this bag I have a really high output with only having 55cm left the last one I was using the wafer was a lot bigger and got in the way of a abominable wound I have. I'm not feeling over confident that there is enough stuck to my skin to be secure for the amount of output and the speed it fills sometimes. Like I say it is all down to confidence. Which I don't have much of in any situation but I am hopeful I can find something that works for me. Thanks for your video

    I am lucky my ileostomy is very low output (due to my motility disorders). I only output 200-300 mls daily, so I typically empty first things when I wake up and right before I go to bed. For me gas is more of the issues but my body now knows when my bag is full of air so I just wake up burp the bag and go back to sleep. I typically on have to do this once or twice a night and I don't even have to get out of bed. I actually use a mini bag 24/7 and it is 7 inches in size. I have leaked once (barely a leak when I was getting up to go empty it since it had ballooned and I was waking up the seal broke due to the pressure of the gas so I changed the bag instead; it didn't get on my clothes or bed luckily) in the past month since I got my perfect bags and since I started using the Coloplast barrier strips which have been life changing because they really reinforce the edges of the wafer on the one piece bag I use.

      That's amazing! I actually am currently using this big bag because my output is between 2000-2500 ml a day. It's insane. I'm having issues with the wafer holding on now though so I'm probably gonna switch to a high output bag from Hollister or Convatec.

    Hey there Eric. Just wanted to make a recommendation to those who use the high output bag you mentioned in the video. It's the only one I use and it's reference number 18600 and attaches to the wafer reference number 10504 or 10502. What I do is I wear that high output bag all day and fold it in with a binder clip to the part where it says Sensura Mio when I'm out and about and at home I let it hang down. That binder clip method I highly recommend to make it wearable all day!

      @@VeganOstomy My pleasure man. They were finally able to rejoin and properly connect both sides of my colon and had another temporary stoma placed (ileostomy) which is set to be reversed in May or June and since then it's been uncontrollable output like close to 3 liters a day and more, that's with Imodium four times a day and sometimes Lomotil when I have it though I ran out. I have a temporary PICC line placed and I hook up a lactated ringer bag to it every night. Any tips on how to slow things down?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 роки тому

      3L a day?? Damn. Do you have a shortened small inestine (I.e. from surgery?). If so, you have what's called short bowel syndrome and high output is pretty much expected. There are prescription meds to help, but I like to stick with carbs (pasta, rice, potatoes) to thicken things up and slow output down. Dietary options aren't too effective for someone with SBS, however.

    • @anthony_ugent007

      @@VeganOstomy Hmm wasn't made aware of any SBS. All of this btw is car accident related from in April will be 6 years ago. Had a freak accident where I accidentally hit a palm tree 5 minutes from home and ended up getting severe abdominal trauma and Sepsis infection as well as peritonitis. It's been hard to accept, but I keep pushing forward as best as I can.

      You may not have SBS, but it was a thought, since very high output is common with it. Damn, I hope nobody else was hurt in the accident. Emergency surgery is usually harder to deal with mentally, but I hope that you are otherwise doing well.

    I don't have high output but it seems essential to me to have at least one box of these pouch, especially to pass exams, I was in the situation where I had to drink a revealing product to pass a medical scanner, I was continuously emptying the pouch before the exam and once lying it was full before the end of it, no accident or leak but it could have happened. Also adding confort for night is a nice thing! Next time I have colopast on the phone I will ask them if it's available in Europe too (I don't see anything on their website)

      +Vincent Vrsn yes, many uses for a large bag like this! Unfortunately, I don't believe they are available everywhere, but it's worth asking. I will have new videos for similar pouches by other brands, so between all of them you should be able to find them globally.

    I wear the sensura mio click system, and i’m looking for a high output bag for me to travel. I’ll be in an airplane flight for 18hours. Do you think this could be the solution? I’m paraplegic and i am not able to go to the restroom in the aircraft that is why i am looking for a really large capacity bag.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  Рік тому +1

      A high-output bag like this could work in that situation. But as a strategy while traveling, I also consider eating less (or fasting, if safe) before the flight. For most ostomates, the volume of output is directly correlated to the volume of food consumed.
      If you can get some samples, you could test it out before your trip to see if it's practical.
      Good luck with your flight!

But I’ve always struggled with what to eat and I know everyone is different. I just wanted your updated input if you please?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  7 років тому

      Hi Jay :)
      I do have a video on what I eat as a vegan ostomate: ua-cam.com/video/MWUTfUrY9lo/v-deo.html
      Keep in mind that my diet changes with the season and some of the things I have in that video aren't as much of a staple for me now.
      I started a diet and exercise plan at the beginning of the month, so my way of eating and food choices over the last several weeks are focused more on weight loss and nutrition more than anything else. As an example, I haven't really eaten pasta or rice this month, and when I do it's a tiny amount. I've been having far more fruit and vegetables and use sweet potatoes throughout the week.
      Once I get to my target weight, I'll be adding more variety as I increase my calories back to a baseline - then it will be closer to what I was eating in the video link above, but perhaps with not as many calories as I used to eat!
      But on a side note... I would love to do a "what I ate today" vlog at some point because I think they're fun to watch!

    • @jadathigpen9604
      @jadathigpen9604 7 років тому

      Vegan Ostomy that video helped a lot! I do have the hardest time eating fruit and veggies I always have. I’ve had the most interesting Crohn’s journey I have never had remission the whole 8 yrs and no meds have worked. So I’m really looking for relieve. And maybe not eating as much meat and more fiber will help even though for me fiber as been an issue.
      I did watch another video and you said chewing your food well is a must. It would great if I could start really incorporating fruits and veggies in my diet again. I basically have stopped eating all fruit and when I do it’s bad. Maybe with my bag things will change. I am going to start having fruit and veggie smoothies to see how that goes. Do you eat candy? Chips? Pop? Juice?
      And yes i would enjoy a video like that I know I’m not the only one and they are fun to watch!

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  7 років тому

      If you still have unmanaged IBD, I would suggest making soups (even blended soups) and smoothies, and also peel the skins of fruit and deseed as much as possible. An inflamed gut is far more sensitive to roughage, although I don't believe in removing fiber-rich foods altogether.
      When I was really sick, I really couldn't keep food down, so I relied on white rice or mashed potatoes for a long time.
      I try to stay away from junk food as much as possible. I binged on quite a few soft drinks/sports drinks when I was in Orlando, but that almost never happens at home. For pop, I actually love getting either diet tonic water or club soda and adding a pack of True Lemon to it :) I am a chip lover, but really don't have it at all, unless my kids are having a party or something like that.
      I'll think about making that video :) I'd love to also do a "food haul" video to show people how I score good deals when I get groceries. I think it helps, especially if you're paying for medical bills and have to find ways to save money.

    • @jadathigpen9604
      @jadathigpen9604 7 років тому +1

      I totally agree with blending things and smoothies. Mash potatoes work wonders for me which is good. I know things will get better after the surgery so I can and these foods back in and have a complete diet.
      I think that is a great idea about the food haul because trying to pay for medical bills and eat right really is a big part of people’s lives that have ibd. Also finding ways to be balanced is key. Thanks for your advice and the tips 😁👍🏽.

    Eric, thank you so much for your videos! Just about everything I learned about my ileostomy I learned from watching you. I watched all of your product try outs and found Coloplast’s Sensura Mio Click 2 piece with the convex wafer to work best for me. As long as I use an Eakin ring, I never have any irritation whatsoever. No need for stoma powder, just skin prep, barrier ring, wafer, pouch and c-rings. I get 3-4 days out and f each wafer, sometimes more. I do get a bit of ballooning which has caused a few “blows outs” getting out of bed at night 😕 but they are few and far between.
    I just got samples of this new high output Sensura Mio Click and am going to try it out tonight to see if it helps.
    Thanks for all you do! I would have been lost without your videos as I literally got no education after my colectomy.

    I wish convatec had something like that. I might be able to leave the house if I had one of those. I set my alarm for every 2 hrs during the night. By the time I get up to empty and fall back asleep, I might get an hour and a half of sleep and then I'm back up doing it again. My ostomy is a faucet. My mother tells me I'm lazy, but she just doesn't understand. She sleeps 8 hrs straight. It's frustrating and limiting to have. In order to leave my house, I can't eat or drink anything for 4-6 hrs. I can't eat or drink while I'm out either. By that time, I'm dehydrated, and it's not worth it.

    Hey Eric bit confusing at the start of video with you mentioning you had to get samples of these,but not suited to you near end of video, great review tho, letting people out there know that these are now available, I had been phoning coloplast for 18 months asking when are they would eventually get round to making these in high output soft tap, Have been using 19004 for 9 months and waiting patiently for them to get made.i tried them for about 3 months slightly bigger flange (one piece ) than 19004 and lightly flange but I found that the flange was split strangely at 9 o'clock position when changing, and few leaks, great for showering in the morning tho with the water proof outer layer, was super excited when eventually they became available but unfortunately the flange wasn't for me and reverted back to 19004. I also use nightdrainage bag 14010 (I suffer from severe sbs,) and cutting the pipe shorter to make it easier for waste to go thr pipe, but not ideal, and Braun is even worst as there are cheap rubbish soft taps, I have made my own invention on night drainage bag and not had any leaks at night for over 3 months now, instead of 1 or 2 a week using the old coloplast 14010

      Hey Maui, I requested samples so I could do this video and see how the product works, but my stoma and output are not ideal for this type of appliance.
      I've seen both soft and hard outlets on high-output bags. Sounds like you need the hard tap variety. Some are made to have a drain attached to it, which is why there are different hardnesses available, but you would have to experiment to find one that is ideal.
      I'm glad you found a system that works, though! Good for you!

      I've had good luck washing and reusing ostomy bags using diluted hydrogen peroxide. Some people will have two bags: one you can wash and hang to dry, and the other they wear. You can rotate between the two for quite a few nights, provided they are still in good condition.

Getting up to emptying usually once. Spoiled sleep. I am also incontinent of urine and must wear depends with lots of pads. I have used the high output bag now for a few days and nights. I use it horizontally in my abdominal band from I think "ostomysecret" . I sleep well all night , empty it no more than twice during the day besides on arising and going to bed. The drainage spout is fabulous and is so easy to rinse inside with my usual warm water routine. No mess. So happy so far with a high output pouch. There are other brand manufacturers but works well with my Hollister two part system. Now my pouch is up and away from my urine problem tucked in the abdominal band pocket.

      I'm getting Hollister samples at any time :) I plan to do another video with those, along with at least one other brand! I'm so happy to hear that there are options!

      VO, after using the Hollister high output bag for several days I still love it. But I got too complacent and was not checking fullness close enough. No leaks but could see beginnings of staining coming out of wafer in my usual vulnerable spot . I use barrier extenders so no leakage, but changed it the next morning when I have no output .Also pancaking still occured so I keep careful watch of my fluid and food intake. I am learning what I can and cannot eat On the closure, see the little nub. It fits into the closure top while emptying pouch, no mess. All is so neat and easy and clean. I have not needed the night drainage bag.

      Thanks for the update! I got my samples in, but haven't taken a closer look at the system yet.

      Dear Eric. Still using my Hollister large capacity pouch. My life has changed. Sleep all night. I no longer using the horizontal band with it. " contents" did not move through it well . Got too close to the stoma and I got leaks. I find I get the leaks with the pouch in any position that is too heavy and too close to the stoma.
      I tried the all night drainage bag that Hollister sent me. Was designed for urine. Probably only liquid "contents" would work. Also with the large pouch , the pouch twisted and was imposible to straighten for a flow. Also if any thick stool, would not be good. The connecter from ostomy pouch to bag connecteri is not secure. Yuck The outflow tube from the bag is impossible to close with the white plastic closure provided. I used the little red end tip provided the first and only night it worked. The white plastic closure is so hard to squeeze close and the few times I did close it would not stay closed. I think a drainage bag designed for ileostomies. would be good. I do not see how a non-ostomy person can understand the design.

      Thanks for this update. It seems that most high-output appliances will be made for liquid output rather than thick or dry stool. Looks like I received two different types of high-output bags: one has a large opening in the front (not sure what that does yet) and a spout, and the other just has the spout.

    Where do you buy Coloplast bags?

      I have a few suppliers I use (in Canada). Contact Coloplast directly to see where to buy them from in your area. Some countries don't have the full product range, or they'll have different variations.
