Didn’t expect Snot to be here. Not one of my favorites but Get Some is a great album. My top 10 is Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Linkin Park, Sevendust, System Of A Down (some argue that they are not Nu Metal but whatever), P.O.D, Disturbed, Godsmack, and Slipknot. Nu Metal got me started with getting into rock and metal. Some might laugh at that but I don’t care, I like Nu Metal lol. Eventually I got into other subgenres of Metal.

Nu Metal got lots of people into Metal from because of bands like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Papa Roach e.t.c being played on the radio. Metal heads should be grateful to Nu metal for widely increasing the metal fanbase.

I was actually expecting this comment section to be a storm of nasty comments about Nu Metal, but I am actually pleasantly suprised! Almost all are highly positive, for me I will be honest Nu metal is easily one of my favorite metal genres, and I am not ashamed of that. There are many bands of that sub-genre that really helped me get into metal as a whole and I thank them for that. Thank you for making such a great video on this CKN and thank you for paying your respects to Chester Bennington easily my favorite singer from this style of metal. It will be sad to see you retire from youtube CKN, but your videos that have gave such a positive impact to me and countless others in the metal community will not be forgotten, I give my salute and thanks to you! Stay Metal! \m/

Despite my dislike of Gore, I can say the same. I remember I listened to their singles as a teenager and enjoyed them, but never really got into the band until Diamond Eyes came out. That album got me So hyped, that I decided to go through their entire discography, and I can honestly say that they are The number one Nu-Metal band of all time, imo.

@SaltandPepperFreak. Yeah imo Nu-Metal was about combining elements of Urban Music like Rap, Reggae and Latin Music with Metal.
I think people who don't like Nu-Metal would like bands like One Minute Silence who are similar to Rage Against The Machine, Puya who combine elements of Latin and Salsa music with Metal and Ill Nino who sound like a hybrid of KoRn and Roots Era Sepultura.
Pleymo are an underrated band from France, they sound like a hybrid of KoRn and Limp Bizkit. Reveille sounds like if Limp Bizkit kept their more aggressive sound off of Three Dollar Bill Y'all. Insolence are a great band that combined elements of Rap and Reggae with Metal, though they haven't been a Nu-Metal band in a while, they've gone in a more Hardcore direction in recent years. And Nonpoint is a great band as well, Nonpoint have almost like an R&B vibe to them.

@@jasonashley9853 I completely disagree. Dave Williams was an average vocalist at best; in no way does he come close to the level of talent of other nu-metal vocalists such as Corey Taylor and Chino Moreno. People just sing his praises because he died young. Also, Dave couldn't write lyrics beyond repeating the same line eight times in the chorus of each song. He had about as much creativity as Taylor Swift when it came to his lyrics. Yeah, Bodies may have stood out as a single, but the rest of the Sinner was just disposable filler. There is so much better nu-metal and other metal out there that can listen to; Drowning Pool's Sinner is not worth my time.

I can't say Nu Metal was ever a massive thing for me. Linkin Park were easily my favourite band...I suppose you could call them the Nu Metal equivalent of Nirvana...the poster boys of the genre. But their sound and lyrics just really appealed to me. Disturbed were / are a close second - heavy yet also melodic. Loved some of their covers.
Slipknot are third - just the 1 album of theirs I bought (and its probably the one most fans regard as the weakest - All Hope Is Gone).
Then there are a bunch of bands who had a few standout songs for me - Korn, Deftones, P.O.D, Staind and Godsmack.
Always thought Limp Bizkit were a joke band - can't say I liked anything of theirs.

    1: Mudvayne

    3: Korn
    4: Static-x
    5: Dope
    6: Deftones

    1:Crazy Town

    3: Papa Roach
    4: Kid Rock
    5: Limp Bizkit
Honorables: Snot, Soulfly, Kittie, Drowning Pool, and Body Count (which I don't know if they would be considered Nu-metal)

I'll always love this era. truly heavy music was in the mainstream for a short time. compared to how the landscape looks in the 2010s (look at what acts are winning the "best rock __" awards nowadays...). honestly I don't remember the last time a song with screaming vocals made the top40 for more than a week.
for me, nu-metal is the genre that gets the most undeserved hate from within the metal community. ironically enough, nu-metal is treated by metal elitists the same way metal in general is treated by mainstream music fans. bands like korn, deftones, staind, slipknot, P.O.D., SOAD, and yes, even limp bizkit will always hold a special place in my heart

Korn will always be my favorite band! They are the very architects of the genre, and defined that sinister, hip hop inspired sound. Jonathan's lyrical, and vocal style is very distinct, and aggressive, the electric guitars have a very unique, cerebral sound to them, and Fieldy's base is ultra heavy, and is very influenced by Les Claypool from Primus. The only real other band I could compare that electric guitar tone with is, Tom Morello's sound from Rage Against The Machine. But even then his technique is totally different, and fits his respective band. Overall, whenever I think of Nu-Metal, I think Korn!

Thank you for mentioning Snot! They were at the first big concert I ever went to and it was phenomenal! I was so young yet so impressionable at the time that they blew me away. "MY BALLS YOUR CHIN!"
Adding on Limp Bizkit, as a fan of 90s, and continuing today, industrial metal, the shit they did on Starfish was a slap in the face to industrial fans and even their guitarist, Wes, was against much of the slander Fred made on that album since he liked NIN (whom Fred dissed) and the genre of industrial as a whole was a huge influence to NuMetal. Linkin Park did counter this, much like Slipknot, and they relied heavily on electronics and industrial sounds like many of the early 90s metal wave (White Zombie, Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, etc) that helped pave the way into NuMetal.
Also as a NuMetal fan to this day, fuck Disturbed, people can like them but to me they are one of the bands that should of died out on the scene especially when bands like Dope (who are still pumping out amazing albums), Nonpoint (whom you mentioned), Ill Nino, Mudvayne, Nothingface, and so on, exist and have released much better (in my opinion) material.
Do not forget to check the current wave of NuMetal that has risen the past few years like DED, My Ticket Home, Islander, Dangerkids, Fire From the Gods, and Sylar

Say what you want, but Chocolate Starfish has some of the best Nu-metal songs ever when it comes to composition, memorable riffs/hooks, and Jump-The-Fuck-Up grooves - My Generation, My Way, Livin it Up, Take A Look Around, Itll Be Ok, Boiler. and even Hold On is a pretty good chill-out point on the track listing.
Also, no one ever mentions The Unquestionable Truth pt. 1, which has one of the best LB songs ever - The Truth, with the rest of the EP also being quite decent.

I always found Ultraspank incredibly & criminally under-rated. They only did two albums but both are equally great dark albums, which I still play to this day. They never really hit it big, they don't even have film clips despite being signed on Epic records. They deserve much better recognition...
Spineshank too deserved better credit, methinks. The first album Strictly Diesel however was an average slab of typical nu-metal complete with the horrible cover 'When My Guitar Gently Weeps' (I wouldn't really recommend the album) but the next album The Height Of Callousness was a big improvement, it had more catchier and harder hitting songs. Self Destructive Pattern was another solid release where they were even nominated for a Grammy for the song Smothered but then the frontman quit and did Silent Civilian. Musical differences, I believe...
And Staind? I never thought they were nu-metal, I always thought they were just trying to fill Alice In Chains shoes, especially the song 'It's Been Awhile'

@TheVirusSoftware Eh, kind of but not really. I'll try to explain (TL;DR at bottom). You had the Dave Williams era, the original singer. The biggest hit off their debut album with him was defiantly "Bodies", but other singles like "Sinner", "Tearing Away" also had a moderate amount of success in the Very early 2000's. Tearing Away was also the intro/theme song of "WWF: Wrestlemania X8". They also recorded a song for wrestler "Triple-H" called "The Game" which saw limited use in the WWF/E. After Dave's death, Jason Jones, stepped in and became front man, a new album "Desensitized" was released. The biggest hit being "Step Up" Which even rivals "Bodies" in terms of it popularity, and was featured in the movie/soundtrack to "The Punisher" (2004), Jason left soon after. Once Jason left, "SOiL" front man Ryan McCombs came on board, and they released, an album in 2007, which produced a few singles most notable though "37 Stitches". They also worked with WWE again and in 2004ish and recorded the song "Rise Up" which was the WWE SmackDown! theme from mid 2004-mid 2008. They released another album in 2010 with Ryan, which spawned a few more singles though my favorite being "Turn So Cold". 2011 Ryan left and Jasen Moreno, stepped in. A new album in 2013 a few more singles, though at this point they had far peaked in popularity and had began severely waning in the years, and released their latest album in 2016.
      TL;DR:
They were mostly known for the songs "Bodies" with front man Dave Williams, but produced many singles in their career, and worked with many different front men, their arguably biggest/second biggest being "Step Up" with front man Jason Jones, the height of their popularity in the mid 2000's. Former "SOiL" front man Ryan came on borad in 2004 shortly after Jason left, and the produces a few albums and multiple singles, before leaving. They severely waned in popularity towards the end of the 2000's/beginning of the 2010's. They had their work showcased in large media at the time most notable WWF/E and The Punisher movie. But with as many huge Nu-Metal bands that spawned around the late 90's/early 00's Drowning Pool while they did have a good amount of success, unfortunately is one of the band that just kind of got "lost in the noise". If you're into Nu-Metal I'd highly recommend looking into their discography more.
