Recently I've played this model side to side with a Fender JB 1977 in the same amp (GK). I can't understand how this entire Yamaha series faded in the early 80's. The SB-75 sounded greater in many ways with respect to the JB: more output, fatter, warmer sound, sometimes a bit closer to a P bass. Moreover, the SB woods and finish aged way better than the JB (even being at least 3 or 4 years older). Yamaha should consider a re-issue here.
Sweet playing 😁👍. I bought an SB75 when I was 17 (currently 40 and still own it) I know they were produced between 73 and 75, but any idea how i could determine the year mine was made?
I would email Yamaha themselves and give them the serial number. Most instrument luthiers keep extensive records of their serial numbers or can at least give you a close time frame for when it was manufactured. They may be able to tell you the exact month and warehouse where it was birthed even.

I am VERY lucky to own a Yamaha SB75, and I can tell you; it weighs a ton, but damn it's a BEAST. Great, great guitar!
How much does it weight exactly?
