You can tuck both ends of the belt in the third method shown. Watch the Rener Gracie video about how to tie the BJJ belt. He calls it the "superlock" variation. I finally figured out how to do it, and I'm gonna tie my belt that way from now on when I'm at the academy training. Looks better, and won't come untied.
Wow I think this might be the best belt tying video I've seen thus far; I can stop searching now. Love it how you take it nice and super slow, and also include adjustment as that will happen in real life and how to deal with it. Thank you kindly!
Wow, I needed this! I've gotten so tired of my belt getting untied during practice using the first method. Hopefully my sensei won't freak out when I start tying my belt differently than he does, he's a little old fashioned.
Real, my sensei will scold you if your foot is the slightest bit forward in aikido training, because the "traditional way" conists of your foot facing all the way out. He has pictures of O'sensei (I think thats his name) all over the walls for tradition.
You explaind everything very very well. But isn't the third the traditional Karate version. Well at least every Dan in my Dojo does it that way. But maybe that they watched your video.
That last method, with extra tuck, is something you can see in a lot of old pictures of judo and jujutsu fighters - I've wondered sometimes why people don't seem to do it anymore in many places, when it seems to have been the regular way at one time. The founder of the karate style I follow (Wado-ryu) also insisted on wearing his belt with both ends tucked back through, as he was originally a jujutsu guy and didn't like it coming loose from people grabbing onto it. I've done it a lot since starting judo, and also do it with all the little kids' belts at karate, since some of them can't figure out the square knot by themselves if it comes undone.
Adam I noticed that also. There is one other way I learned in TKD before I started in Judo that he did't show. A combination of the 1st and third method.
Good work with the video, well explained. I think this flat looking knot is similar to the third one, but both ends go in between the two layers wrapped, instead of only one (the left one). Not so sure, but I think that's it. See you!
Thanks for clear demos! I wanted to check out other methods people use to tie belts. My kids visit Aikido school and we use the 3rd method to tie their belts. Definitely the best one if you do not want to get untied belt! Have never happened to us.
Good demo. Couldn't you do number 3 by starting with number 1 providing you make sure the layers overlap properly? It appears that you are ending up in the same place before the last modification.
Gracias! Lo usaré con mis estudiantes de judo. Ya conocía las primeras dos formas para amarrar el cinturón, pero el tercero no lo sabía. Me parece muy buena opción. Lo practicaré!
Red Dragon Diaries Sir The style of 武道 you train in is 国士館 (the country warrrior training hall)? I can only read the 漢字(hanja) on your 道着. On your 帯 it looks like the style is 山流柔道柔術?Thank you for sharing.
Juste un petit détail sur les deux longueurs de ceinture devant. Celles-ci sont inégales parce qu'elles correspondent philosophiquement à l'idéogramme du TAO. Le lien étend comme une attaque et une esquive ... Etc.… Félicitations.
thank you sooooooo much!! while in training or in competition my belt just loose and my sensei gets mad at me all the time XD the third knot seems really nice!!!! I'll try it! thanks! ^.^
I think it's common in both judo and karate. I just called it the SeoulTee method for fun. Some actually loop both ends through the belt, but I just do the one.
SeoulTee I use the third method when I train and the second method in tournaments. The only reason I have to retie my belt when I tie it using the third method is that the initial tie wasn't tight enough. Great video.
I don't use the third method in tournaments because having my belt not untie gives my opponents an advantage. If their belt falls off, I can't use it. If my belt stays on, they can use it against me. I don't use the third method in tournaments because I don't want to give my opponent an advantage.
i bought a gi yesterday from my judo instructor yesturday, i take classes in achool, i am 6 foot 1, he sold me one for my height but it was a bit baggy, he suggested i wash in hot and dry in hot so i did and it fits better but still is rather baggy. it has 6/200 on the tag. i weigh about 150. does the 200 mean its for a thicker person?
Conrad, I love you and miss you. Sorry idk how this internet works. But stumbeled into a video. I went ape shit. Oh don't even realize what I wrote. Hope u r well and baby is well. I am still here muckin through muck at waist deep. But still forever blessed with work. I will be back as sure as I me. Its taking a little longer but Jim sure fucked things up. Hit me below belt. Didn't expect ripping my heart out. But I will get through. No matter what. I love you and am proud of you. Please. Know Haven't seen Bryan. But since he's now 18 its a process all over. I'm tired but not dead. I will have my Bryan back its just taking a lot longer. Out of my hands. I do have wonderful attorneys at my side I am blessed with... No matter what I'm comming back stronger then ever u know us mom..its on right....I miss you. U are my life and always will be
Love u I am figuring this out idk if i should be on this pic. I seen u tagged my u tube . or maybe I was trying to get u and tagged. But I do know I love who. You!! I'm working today but will call u. Later if that's ok...God Bless you. And kiss baby and whoever hopefully its the cute gal I liked with those beautiful babies. Mom misses my babies. Like my stewie is gone.....I'm lois
I wouldn't wash or dry it that way. Wash it cold and air dry it. At your height, the sleeves will get too short if you dry it. After about 6 months of using it, then you can dry it from time to time. My uniforms fit baggy too.
I think aikido is great stuff. I wish I had done it at some point along the way. I'm sure there are some aspects about aikido that would transition well into self-defence. Much police training is centered around alot of the takedown and locking techniques of aikido for subduing someone. Much of it is theoretical and there isn't a real free sparring venue in aikido, but it's still great.
Sorry, but you did the first one wrong. Your right hand guides the belt under the other wrapping. It doesn't cross over. It should end up just like the last two you tied. A new belt tied like that could hurt your back if you fall wrong, and is uncomfortable. Why hasn't anybody noticed this?
That's all true. Koreans pronunciation of the "J" in this case is with a "Y" sound. I learned this as I heard pronunciations and saw spellings of several words in the same situation.
Is the belt suppose to be perfectly layered in the back? Because for some reason I cannot get it perfectly layered, one layer always comes out despite how hard I pull when tying.
Membership has its priviledges, brother!! I just get shirts if he throws one at me during class. He randomly makes shirts and jackets, but I don't really ask for them. I can always ask about the orange shirts and see what he says. He can be ornery (lol!) so it's always delicate asking for stuff. PM me through my FB page in the comments. I don't actually train there now because I moved and dislocated the elbow during practice.
For the third method, the right side, the one with chinese characters should also be passed between the two layers of belt, like you did for the left side, so everything is symetric.

I find that the second method is much more efficient, it holds alot longer than other ways
hermosa canción dani! muy conmovedora...no tenes techo negra..dale pa delante! te espera un Gran futuro
This helped me so much! surprisingly better than the other videos.
interesting name lmao
@@ben4627-p8o thanks mate

This video is very useful, i posted it on out club's Facebook page here in UK. Many thanks for making it :-)
Thank you for sharing
Ey you stole my first name! xD
Great .... I for myself like the Basic "traditional" version :D ....... Great Video
This is genuinely helpful. Thank you

Best of belt tie videos. Thanks.

Eloquently simple...very well done video.
GREAT! THE BEST VIDEO I'VE SEEN SO FAR...THANK-YOU
Verry nice!! I question my self where can you buy such kind of belt? Wich brand is t?
Thanks for clear demos! I wanted to check out other methods people use to tie belts. My kids visit Aikido school and we use the 3rd method to tie their belts. Definitely the best one if you do not want to get untied belt! Have never happened to us.
2nd one is the best. No crossover.
Thank you. Hope one of them works for you!
Good demo. Couldn't you do number 3 by starting with number 1 providing you make sure the layers overlap properly? It appears that you are ending up in the same place before the last modification.
There is fourth which is flatter and firmer which doesn’t cause the belt to fray.
Thanks for sharing! My belt always came untied during sparring, but since I started using the 3rd way, my belt keeps a nice knot all throughout class!
really helpful , about to go to a judo grading , thanks!
I think I'll stay with the basic fold lol
Why didn't you tread the other end of the belt, in-between as well? (Referring to the 3 technique)
Gracias! Lo usaré con mis estudiantes de judo. Ya conocía las primeras dos formas para amarrar el cinturón, pero el tercero no lo sabía. Me parece muy buena opción. Lo practicaré!

Thanks man I'm Going Back Into Martial Arts Pretty Soon And I forgot How To Tie My Belt This Vid helped Alot!!
Juste un petit détail sur les deux longueurs de ceinture devant.

Le lien étend comme une attaque et une esquive ... Etc.…
Félicitations.
Very helpful, when i went to my first class, most of the classmates just made a simple knot on their belts and this made made me look like a pro :)
awsome video mate. what belt is that ?
Thank you so much man! I had a bit of trouble remembering the 1st method and now i will remember it properly! So big credits to you! ;)
Awesome thanks for sharing. Very well done.
Really helped alot. Thanks for taking your time to teach us.
thank you sooooooo much!! while in training or in competition my belt just loose and my sensei gets mad at me all the time XD
the third knot seems really nice!!!! I'll try it! thanks! ^.^
The third one should do the trick. You can put both ends through the same way if you have enough belt left.
This is the knot I ALWAYS use because your belt NEVER comes off/loose.
I think it's common in both judo and karate. I just called it the SeoulTee method for fun. Some actually loop both ends through the belt, but I just do the one.
Thank you for this, option 3 is working great for me now
Great video. I will be sure to try the SoeulTee method for my next class.
Robert Moffat i think im going to start using the soeultee style from now on..
Thank you very useful; greetings from México !!!!
The last one I used at the Australian nationals
Crossing at your back is or at least was very bad when I learned how to tie obi 35 years ago.
I noticed that a few people have knots that are flat tied, you know how they do them?
the ends of my belt always flop down, and they don't stay up looking neat and crisp... is that bcs my belt is too long, or the material is floppy?
Well I have to loop both ends because I got my first dan and in my Karate dojo you have to do it like that.
Music made me sleepy, but otherwise a great video! Can't wait to try it! :)
Does that 3rd method really never get untied during practice? If so I have to try that myself!
I'm sure it does somehow. It just never happened to me when I tied it that way. I typically use the second method though
SeoulTee
I use the third method when I train and the second method in tournaments. The only reason I have to retie my belt when I tie it using the third method is that the initial tie wasn't tight enough. Great video.
Paul Cartee why dont u use the third method in tournaments as well, since it normally doesn't untie?
I don't use the third method in tournaments because having my belt not untie gives my opponents an advantage. If their belt falls off, I can't use it. If my belt stays on, they can use it against me. I don't use the third method in tournaments because I don't want to give my opponent an advantage.
but according to the rules when your belt unties the referee signals you to tie it again..or am I wrong?
i bought a gi yesterday from my judo instructor yesturday, i take classes in achool, i am 6 foot 1, he sold me one for my height but it was a bit baggy, he suggested i wash in hot and dry in hot so i did and it fits better but still is rather baggy. it has 6/200 on the tag. i weigh about 150. does the 200 mean its for a thicker person?

Thanks Xander Ramos !
I finally get it thank you so much 👍🏼OSS!
Thank you. That last one was beautiful.
THANKS U SO MUCH BRO
That's how I beat my opponents these days!

Thanks! I'm checking out the Aikido dojo tomorrow.
Excelent post, mate!!
thanks!
I absolutely love using the 'Seoultee' method for tying my belt! Did you come up with that one yourself?!
No not at all. Just having some fun
Thank you so much my favorite one was the second one it fits snug and its not going nowhere thank you again

Its nice to see someone is actually getting old . shit this means I'm ancient
Help me I'm sinking in cyber shit
Love u
The SEOULTEE method is also the droman30 method.
Thanks brother. The orange shirt says "Kook Sa Kwon Yudo Jang (judo school)"
You're welcome. I use the last knot myself when I'm practicing judo
I wouldn't wash or dry it that way. Wash it cold and air dry it. At your height, the sleeves will get too short if you dry it. After about 6 months of using it, then you can dry it from time to time. My uniforms fit baggy too.
Actually, the third knot ends up looking flat. At least a little flatter than the others. That may be what they're doing.

thanks for this video i forgot how to tie my gi
Hey man thanks for the vid, Ill use that 3rd method, Cheers
I don't know what i'm doing wrong but no matter what method i use to tie my belt it still comes undone
Owen Carey mine too
Thanks my dude! judo promotion coming up!
Thanks this helped a ton!
Boss
Thank you so much! You tea ch me how to tie my Judo belt!
What belt are you at? Looking for fellow white belts.
hey SeoulTee, there's an aikido dojo near my home. what are your thoughts on aikido? is it legit training for self defense?
Thanks a lot bro!
Thanks. I'm in a different one now with my new school.
VERY GOOOOD
Yes it is. You either know judo, or you watched my other video comparing judo gis. kkkk!
I think it's the same for karate. Most likely TKD as well
Oh so good! I'm a new white belt that has to tie her belt like a thousand times during the practice lol this afternoon I'll try the last one!

Miau te miaun miau
2:29 for the sencond one
that how ive tied my band the first way
It's the only method!
it should be yes. before you start the knot, make sure it's layered correctly. Just takes a little practice.
Is the belt suppose to be perfectly layered in the back? Because for some reason I cannot get it perfectly layered, one layer always comes out despite how hard I pull when tying.
For my belt it makes it a bit too bulky. I find doing one side still locks it up
Membership has its priviledges, brother!! I just get shirts if he throws one at me during class. He randomly makes shirts and jackets, but I don't really ask for them. I can always ask about the orange shirts and see what he says. He can be ornery (lol!) so it's always delicate asking for stuff. PM me through my FB page in the comments. Thanks i used the last one
On the second one get a big bit left and a we bit left
It's been so long since I did this. I got it from Audionautix, but I can't remember the song. SOrry
Thanks dude alot! :)
what is the title of song?
so.. it only works for judo or jiu jitsu belts? what about karate, or taekwondo belts?
Nice...thank you!
For the third method, the right side, the one with chinese characters should also be passed between the two layers of belt, like you did for the left side, so everything is symetric.
very nice
I finally do the no crossover method, THANKS!!!
+AAA Destroyer awesome!
Most important - tie the belt in your kitchen! 🙂
Glad it was helpful. Oss
2:30
Thank you very much :)
nice one brother.
