I think the tickets you bought for Beihai park actually already include the pagoda, it's a shame that you just missed it. Maybe be less shy and just ask people next time, they would be more than happy to help.
Since you walk from Xidan station, that means you literally are walking through the front door of "white house" or “10 Downing Street” of China,on your way to the forbidden city. That's why the security is so important in this direction.
I was in BJ this march and stayed in Hotels perfectly located at Qianmen St as well as Wangfujing, for a week. Couldn't get tickets to the Forbidden City (but I've been twice before in 1997 and 2008). Went to Univ Studios, GWall Badaling by hi speed train, Temple of Heaven, Shichahai, Old imperial Palace, Beihai Pk, Summer Palace, Qianmen St. (of course), Tiananmen Sq., etc. Rented Meituan bikes to explore BJ. Waited 5 hours for roast duck at Peking Chamber (Si ji min fu) despite registering on their online waiting APP at 3pm. Much colder weather in March than shown in this video but overall, it was perfect for us, and we had a wonderful time and enjoy this great city. Will be back again soon.
The pie should go with the black vinegar on the table, and the sugar is just for the crispy duck skin, not the wraps. China has been working on planting trees for decades in West China, turning the desert into forest, so the pollution is less and less.
Tiananmen Square is the center of the capital, no wonder it has top security. If you go to other cities, you would not see such strict security. Enjoy Chinese food!
This is such an authentic vlog! I love it. As a Beijinger, I have to say it is a pity that you guys didn’t go in the Forbidden City. Actually you guys walked past the Tian’ An Men Square. For the Beijing Duck, the sugar is for you to dip with the crispy duck skin, which will melt in your mouth. 😊

If you cannot get into the forbidden city, you can still go to Jing Shan Park to overlook the whole forbidden city from the hill in the park, you can also see the city skyline from distance.
there are lots of government buildings in and around tiananmen square area so that's why there's more security. if a foreign head of state is in town, there might even be higher security. other places in beijing will be normal and you really won't see this in other chinese cities.

I totally understand you. One of the locals told me that the security is very strict not because of the Forbidden City is so important, but because almost all the top government officials work near the Forbidden City.
Western media say that China is a poor and backward country. In fact, China is indeed relatively poor, but not backward. China has many leading technologies in the world.

The Forbidden city is not just some tourist attraction, it's where the government is at. You wouldn't expect to be able to just walk into congress, or parliament, without any security checks now would you? In the imperial days the government was located inside, and only officials and royalty were allowed in. The people were kept outside. After the revolution they flipped it around, so the government is now outside with the people, and the inside is just a relic from the past. That's the symbolism here
It used no need to check back 10 years ago, but for some obvious reason( the no1 make chaos in HK and other provinces) , China have to protect their citizens

Sadly Tiananmen Sq has been heavily securitised, not just because it's the traditional venue for protest (which is a good thing -similar to Parliament Sq or Trafalgar Sq in London), but started attracting terrorist attacks too from the noughties and teenies.

Why do we emphasize "surveillance"? But it's just a camera, it only records video. If there is no safety problem, the video will not be seen by anyone. If someone loses something, or there is a fight or someone is injured, the police have the right to check the video to quickly find the criminal. This is an important reason why China is so safe
@@LaylaLayla-wf9cy Definitely, criminals dare not commit crimes under cameras. Ordinary people do not worry about cameras. If people do, they must have done or been doing something wrong.

Not only that, it’s also the place where leaders from other countries would be when they’re visiting China. It’s expected to have intense security to protect their safety as well as showing respect, just like general public wouldn’t be freely allowed to just wandering around the White House.
For the reservations part, in most Chinese museums, foreigners can book tickets (most museum are free) at the ticket office using their passport without needing to book in advance. However, for popular attractions like the Forbidden City and some larger museums, due to high visitor numbers, tickets must be booked online at least 7 days in advance. Usually foreigners can email the office 1 or 2 day in advance to make a booking, which is a convenient option for those without a Chinese ID.
Tiananmen Square was attacked several years ago, and security checks have been strict since then. After all, Tiananmen Square is one of the most important symbols of our country. While protecting it, it must also be open to everyone, so I think it is not difficult to understand the strict security checks.
To visit the Forbidden City, reservations are required because the number of visitors is extremely high, especially during holidays. As for walking on Chang'an Avenue in front of Tiananmen, the security is very strict because it is the center of power in China, and there have been terrorist attacks in the past. The security department ensures the safety of national leaders, government agencies, and the public, which is why the security there is exceptionally tight.
Tiananmen Square is the center of Beijing and the center of all China. It is also the largest historical site in China. Security checks have always been very strict, not only for foreign tourists, but also for Chinese tourists. As for surveillance, it’s for crime prevention and crime evidence collection. As long as you don’t have any criminal thoughts, don’t worry, just pretend they don’t exist.
There are many Chinese people, and popular attractions need to control the flow of people. Otherwise it will be very crowded. When you went there, German dignitaries were visiting China, so the German flag was flown.
4:40 Zhongnanhai is on this road, it is the White House of China. So the inspection is very strict. I am a local and I am often checked for my ID card there. Just show them your passport. It's just their job, everyone is very kind there
11:45 Actually, there is a ticket office at the Palace Museum. Especially for foreigners, if you don't know or miss the appointment, you can show your passport information and ask if you can buy tickets on the spot. Generally, you can buy them. It's a pity that you didn't get in.
Welcome to my hometown, Beijing. Beijing not only has a large number of places of interest, but also a unique variety of huge and beautiful museums, most of which are free but many require advance reservations.
Beijing is very very beautiful, if you are still in Beijing, please visit these two places Summer Palace and Prince Gong's Mansion, they are amazing, please don't miss them.
You are 'not good' with chopsticks because you are holding it too low. It is the most common mistake. Hold it higher towards the top and it will be much easier!
anyone planning a trip to china needs to research what attractions they plan on visiting and check if you need reservations. yes many you need wechat but just get a local sim and you are set. since it's in chinese, just ask your hotel staff to help you book tickets. china is a higher difficulty destination so if you survive your first trip with some satisfaction, you leveled up 🤣
Electric car 🚙 and electric bike 🏍️. No more pollution and the streets is quite. Less gasoline ⛽️ cars. Not like India 🇮🇳. Germany 🇩🇪 flags, because they diplomatic officials visited in Beijing.
Beijing's air pollution control began in 2013 and till today. Prior to this, the government made several brief effort to control air pollution in 1998, 2005 and 2007-2008. I guess that was the time when Beth first came to China. At that time, the pollution was severe, with over 150 days of heavy pollution each year, and the sky was a murky yellow, similar to the industrial development era of Los Angeles and London in the last century. Beijing pressed ahead with a multiyear, $100 billion effort to clean its air. The authorities clamped down on factories, forced old vehicles off the road and shifted from coal to natural gas. And also spent more then 60 years planting trees in the northwest to combat sandstorms.
China today, in general, is not polluted anymore. The blue sky with some white clouds is simply beautiful. China has been constantly evolving for the better for more than 4 decades. A group of German diplomats and businessmen were visiting China then. Yes, you need to book a visit to Tiananmen Square. But you could make a detour to Qianmen and Wangfujing Street. There is plenty to visit/see in Beijing!
When they had mass construction in the 90s & 20s that’s when they had air pollution and dust everywhere now they build a lot less and only some high end buildings
Beijing today, in general, isn't polluted anymore, but that's largely just because they've moved the factories etc. that cause the pollution elsewhere. China still gets very polluted in other cities.
Welcome to China! Very nice weather in Beijing! Actually it's been always blue skies in Beijing for recent 5 - 8 years as Chinese government made a lots efforts to use green energy, which also makes China the most powerful country for green energy industry in the world.
In the past, the United States and Europe said that China had serious pollution. Now China's clean energy is developing rapidly. However, now the United States and Europe say that China's overcapacity poses a hidden danger to world security
I can‘t believe that you chose to walk all the time instead of unlocking the shared bicycles.😂 Why don't you take this adventure? It would relieve your leg's work. 😂Maybe you thought China was a small country or Beijing was a small city.
When I used them in China you had to register, has that changed? In some places you needed a Chinese ID card to use them as well (in a different city). I had to get a friend to register for me. Many apps that are friendly for Chinese are not set up for foreigners.

There are many beautiful places in China. You insist on broadcasting live from the political center. Your behavior is bound to be questioned. It's like if you go around the White House in the United States, there will definitely be security guards watching you. You should be aware of it, it feels like the BBC.
The security is pretty tight probably because a head of state is visiting. I remember we had super high security in Sydney once with snipers on building when Obama visited. That said the square is probably an exception in china.
Thanks for the video! There were extra security checks when you were around the square because of a visit by the German Chancellor between April 14-16. Normally there is much less security check. The restaurant you visited is not famous for Peking Duck, there are more even better restaurants. :-)
To Tian 'anmen Square there are two stations with the same is Tian 'anmen West, one is Tian 'anmen East, go to Zhongshan Park, Tian 'anmen West Station recently, go to the Forbidden City or Tian 'anmen Square is also closer to Tian 'anmen West. Now the scenic spots in Beijing have canceled their reservations, and only the museums need reservations.
I think the super tight security with the check points is because you guys walked right past the White House equivalent of China, where it is the the central headquarter of the communist party and the state Council 😂
That is a special heritage site. Security is tighter there because many tourists visit there. That would be a prime target for terrorists or unfriendly countries.
The German Chancellor was there, and that area has some of the most important buildings in China. In other areas of China, no one would bother you with passport check.
Maybe you have left Beijing by now. However, it is recommended to choose a hotel closer to the city center when you come to Beijing next time. This way you won't be too tired when you visit Beijing's attractions. Beijing is too big. Welcome to Beijing again!

@@tc2334 i mean the Jinshui Bridge attack in 2013
@@revenchou8798 Ohh ok yeah i remember that now
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was in town, hence the security was tightened up and you were stopped at checkpoints.
😄😄😄Please don't be shy, just ask the waiter how to eat it. They will be very helpful.
No they haven't. It started to get like this about 15 years ago. It wasn't like that when I was there in 2006.
@@96518 后来发生过恐怖袭击,所以严格了
@@96518 It's clear that you've forgotten how expensive cameras were 15 years ago.
They have so many tourist in the most popular tourist sites you need to get tickets in advance
Beihai Park was the last Chinese empress dowager Ci Xi's royal retreat
China today, in general, is not polluted anymore. The blue sky with some white clouds is simply beautiful. China has been constantly evolving for the better for more than 4 decades. A group of German diplomats and businessmen were visiting China then. Yes, you need to book a visit to Tiananmen Square. But you could make a detour to Qianmen and Wangfujing Street. There is plenty to visit/see in Beijing!
When they had mass construction in the 90s & 20s that’s when they had air pollution and dust everywhere now they build a lot less and only some high end buildings
Their media used filters to make the skies looking polluted...😢
Come to xian or chengdu during winter. You will see what really air pollution is😉
Beijing today, in general, isn't polluted anymore, but that's largely just because they've moved the factories etc. that cause the pollution elsewhere. China still gets very polluted in other cities.
我是中国人,我来自河南省商丘市。我可以告诉你。现在全国的空气都和北京一个样。如果你不信可以来我家乡看看。我会开车带你在我家乡转转看看。@@tc2334

@@96518 Alipay can unlock the shared cycles. I don't know that situation you said actually. But I just saw another UA-camr unclocked these bicycles and used them quickly. Their name is OTWD
兄弟,放松点,感觉你太紧张了。
This video was probably shot in April, the month of the best weather in Beijing。
october is the best
no, I think summer is better
@@mangcike nonono, the summer in Beijing is very hot
I think the super tight security with the check points is because you guys walked right past the White House equivalent of China, where it is the the central headquarter of the communist party and the state Council 😂
things change over time, Pittsburgh and London and many UK cities used to be heavily polluted but not anymore.
If you think China is good, you can try to travel to other places in China. Everywhere is great.China welcomes friendly friends.
Good morning, have a good trip in Beijing.
That is a special heritage site. Security is tighter there because many tourists visit there. That would be a prime target for terrorists or unfriendly countries.
The German Chancellor was there, and that area has some of the most important buildings in China. In other areas of China, no one would bother you with passport check.
感觉你们俩完全没做任何调查就来北京了,首先宾馆竟然选在那么偏僻的乡下,其次故宫的参观人数太多了,每天限制入场人数,所以需要提前预约门票
老外都是穷游,舍不得花钱
Amazing 😮
Beautiful scenery you've captured! Thank you for sharing! Watching from Malaysia!!!!! Subscribed!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍
Maybe you have left Beijing by now. However, it is recommended to choose a hotel closer to the city center when you come to Beijing next time. This way you won't be too tired when you visit Beijing's attractions. Beijing is too big.
Welcome to Beijing again!
Hope you’re enjoying China 😊😊

16:35 Oh My Gosh. *Use your hands!* Chinese people don't care they want the food to get into your mouth. Those meat pies were not meant to be eaten with chopsticks. When in doubt, trust your insticts. It's also fine to spit bones out of meat. By the way, meat on bones is way more delicious.
