Everyone involved -- Clint, Maria, Viki, Asa, Chuck, and Cord in these scenes ALL rocked! They knocked the ball (s) COMPLETELY out of the park!! You didn't mess with OLTL back in the day!! It was just a not-to-be missed show!
That scene where Clint strangles Asa...wow! What gets me is how easily Clint goes back to being an enraged boy, and that mature, settled man Clint was seeps away.
Sometimes I look back at old shows I used to watch and say why did I ever watch this crap, but I can't do that with this. This was acting at its finest. They don't make em like this anymore. R. I. P Clint and Phil. That was superb
The Mexican Cook's daughter can you believe it Chuck??? Damn Asa lol.. Ritchie and Carey should have one Emmy's.. it's a shame they give you goosebumps when they start yelling
I agree. I'll never understand why Clint Ritchie was never nominated for the Emmy. Especially since he was opposite Erika Slezak for most of his performances AND because Robert Woods was in fact nominated several times (and I don't think he was as good as Ritchie).
A few other interesting things in this clip - how Chuck is used as Asa's conscience, which is played up again a few years later when Asa is haunted by his refusal to help pay for Chuck's surgery. And then Clint saying Asa didn't want him to be involved with a "Mexican." I can't imagine any soap today having the guts to address something like that.
This was during Robert S. Woods's two-year hiatus from playing Bo on OLTL. But I can imagine that Bo would've gone off on Asa worse than Chuck did if he had been present, even going as far as to declare that if Asa could do something like this to Clint, who's to say he wasn't doing the same to Bo.
@@stallion66 I had stopped watching by then after that god-awful Eterna storyline. Bad stories are to be expected from time to time, but that took it to another level. Instead of realizing their mistake and scratched or downplayed, the producers kept seem to double down on it. It wasn't til the early 90s that I started watching again.
I really loved this episode, because for the 1rst time in his life Asa could not bribe or lie his way out of lying to his own son.You take away 20 yrs of your child's life,& think a simple apology will fx everything.a lot of parents r nothing but hypocrites, because they r always telling their kids that its wrong to lie be think as parents they have the right to lie to their own kids,& then want to get mad when their own kids start lying,& don't want to admit that their own kids picked up that habit of lying from their own patents. Asa got exactly what he deserved.
" the mexican cooks daughter u believe it chuck !!" I think that said it all why asa did this. I was kinda surprised they brought bigotry into this but that's exactly why asa got rid of maria & her mom. Asa usually will do anything to control anyone who is a Buchanan but he did not want his " fine son " w/ a Mexican. Wow I cant believe clint forgave asa for this. He lost all of his 1st borns childhood b/c of asa. This has to be the worst thing asa has done. They always over the years talked about asa's " scuzzy shady or nasty buisness deals " I'd love if they expanded on them. I know todd during the hostage thing at the lodge said " asa would squeeze the last penny from a poor neighborhood " I'm guessing that's the kind of " scuzzy deals " chuck is referring to. I always hated how asa was so mean to Tina calling her every name in the book & i saw a recently a scene from 93 where he told Tina " u & ur sister ( viki ) ruined my family. Two tramps . Ur both horrible wives & horrible mothers " another poster pointed out that all Tina was to asa was a vessel for his great grand kids. I guess they really were trying to trash asa in 98 b/c he was pushing nora to give him an heir I believe after drew died from bo & nora said " what about all ur grandkids cord kevin joey Jessica? & asa said well " cords not home grown " ( real nice & that was ur fault asa . He also probably hated his last name was Roberts) kevin & joey are not blood buchanans ( which was terrible they were raised since they were tiny as buchanans & clint adopted them so they are bukes & Clint is their father. That really shocked me that all these years they were less than b/c they werent blood. Terrible. Than of course he says & jessica is a fine kid but she is a girl ( what the heck so b/c she is a female she is also less than ) I guess nora didnt bother to mention hos great grand kids duke ( not blood ) & cj ( last name is Robert's even though hes blood & raised a Buchanan from birth but hes not last named Buchanan from cord ) sarah ( a girl & see cj ) so instead of harassing nora who he actually called a " brood mare " why didnt asa make himself another baby w/ a surrogate for godsakes. Great scenes by clint Ritchie Phil Carey erika slezak & barbara luna ( maria )
t just occurred to me. Rex, Natalie, and Jessica are around the same age right? When did Clint and Vicky get divorced? I'm asking bc if you look at the timeline, did Clint cheat on Vicky with Echo?
They rewrote the history. Jessy and Natali was born around the year 86. Clint's affair with Echo is around the year 82. Rex was shown as younger brother of Natalie but the writers somehow messed up everything. I don't know how he suddenly became elder brother. Niki Smith divorced Clint around the year 85. Viki divorced Clint after Sloan's affair.
@CarlD2 That's interesting you say that. I have an old book on TV from the 80's and I JUST saw a quote from Paul Rauch saying the key to good soaps is "story, story, story!" With all his emphasis on other things (music, lighting, intense acting), I'd think he would place one of those as the greatest importance. Very Interesting....
Worse in terms of what she did to Viki, making everyone believe she reverted to Niki Smith. But, Maria was not responsible for Asa bribing her mother to leave town or face deportation.
@CarlD2 I agree. So many soaps now try to capture that writing style (especially Passions and Sunset Beach), but just don't pull it off the same. The characters were written SO well that everything else seemed even more intense. I think the dialog was definitely underestimated now that I'm hearing it all over again. The characters never say anything that rings false.
@VickRobCal I think a lot of that has to do with Peggy O'Shea, she seemed to know how to pace storylines beautifully. When you look at 1985 and 1986 so much makes sense from one day to another.
I agree & the way it made sense how characters would bring other characters on. Tina brought on cord bc Maria's mom.sent clint a letter. She went to el Paso to get goods on clint bc she was mad at viki & clint. She met cord & it was love at first sight. Then that brought maria & al Roberts. Then bc maria hated tina she called her old neighbors son max Holden to seduce her away from cord. Then max with a back story introduced gabrielle medina.
Yeah. They probably didn't end on good terms. Here is a quote from Clint's fan page that they had a relationship in real life. "It was great dramatic stuff to play. And the story about finding a son was a pleasure. Barbra and I had known each other before she worked on “One Live To Live.” We had the same acting coach in Los Angeles, Estelle Harmon, and we would see each other at parties. There was a mutual attraction. When she came to “One Life To Live,” we did see each other for awhile. When I was hurt, she sent some cards and we spoke. We haven’t spoken for quite some time now and I’m not sure if I have a current number for her or not. She did re-marry."
The hilarious parts are 3:43 "you couldn't take me on your best day. You caught me off guard." and 4:23 "yeah, her name was also Maria." Ah ha ha! Asa creates such funny situations out of tragedy. Interesting how far Maria and Asa will go in order not to admit they were wrong. Kind of like current parent/child issues but without the poisonings and kidnappings!
Welllllllll, it all finally makes sense!! I never knew the TIMING of when Clint found out about Cord. NOW, I see why Maria helped Allison and went over the edge. Here she is in a filmy negligee ready to start a life with Clint and his son and bam! she gets told about herself! I think Clint calling her a baby thief was Maria's last moment of sanity. She DID kidnap Cord from Clint for a million $. Crazy people HATE the truth! lol!
Not exactly. Asa paid off her mom & threatened to deport them. Maria was a scared immigrant child & did as her mom.said. then she met al Roberts right away & fell for him. As cord grew he loved al so I'm sure as lies go it gets harder & harder to tell the truth. If she called clint & told him , asa would have deported her mom. Maria loved clint I'm sure if not for asa she would have told him. If asa had her mom deported their was nothing clint could have done . Maybe paid off the ins
Love 😘😘😘😘 this
Always loved Clint Richie as Clint. Rest In Peace
Superb acting Barbara Luna she was a hell raiser
The fact that Asa was racist 😒 and Clint disowned his ass was OLTL at its best
I wish I could could go back to being 7 years old and watch this all over again.
Everyone involved -- Clint, Maria, Viki, Asa, Chuck, and Cord in these scenes ALL rocked! They knocked the ball (s) COMPLETELY out of the park!! You didn't mess with OLTL back in the day!! It was just a not-to-be missed show!
Don’t ever say there wasn’t great acting on daytime TV
Two great actors rip
Clint Ritchie acted his @ss off in these scenes.
Damn! I wish they put this out on DVD!
That scene where Clint strangles Asa...wow! What gets me is how easily Clint goes back to being an enraged boy, and that mature, settled man Clint was seeps away.

Clint Ritchie must have found the fountain of youth, he's actually only 13 years younger than Phil Carey, but he looks young enough to be Carey's son.
That music in the background is intense boy oh boy!!
OLTL did have great music to add to the effect of the storyline.
Such a powerful scene!!! Ironic that Clint would turn out to be worse than Asa later on in the series run.
They decimated the character of Clint
I hated what they did to Clint’s character after Asa died. At least they corrected it before the show ended.
No father,or mother deserves forgiveness, after taking 20 yrs away from their child.Asa got just what he deserved.
Love this.
Missed the orginal Clint when he left..
How and when did Clint and Asa reconcile?
Clint Richie was definitely the best Clint. I could see why women were flipping out over him; including Miss Dorian. The other one....not so much.
Agreed! He was a much Greater Clint than Jerry VerDorn.
Both were good and very handsome. Rip to both Clint and Jerry
Damn that was intense!
Was this the last we saw of Chuck Wilson, I don't recall seeing him after this?
Actually, the last time Jeremy Slate appeared as Chuck Wilson was Christmas 1989 when he visited Asa’ in a dream a la Scrooge..
@@stallion66 I had stopped watching by then after that god-awful Eterna storyline. Bad stories are to be expected from time to time, but that took it to another level. What I don’t get is when Maria learned she was impregnated by Clint why didn’t she tell Clint, first???!!!
I used to hate the way Maria would say Cordero. It always irked me. Her crazy voice. She was fun. Good Times.
Was this Chuck Wilson's last appearance?

I guess he Really would have considered me " less than" sine I was born with hydrocephalus, and I happen to be married to a Mexican-American.smdh

Paul Rauch knew how to keep your interest in whichever soap he was EP of. One of the last great Executive Producers
What Asa did was wrong but what Maria did was worse

Ritchie and Luna HATED each other in real-life. I mean LOATHED!!!!!!

I thought Maria's mothers name was Rosa?
Rosa might have been a nickname. It simply means rose or pink in espanol.
@shrinefilms1 LOL you are right. And I was surprised too that the whole revelation took place during Jessica kidnapping.
Welllllllll, it all finally makes sense!! I never knew the TIMING of when Clint found out about Cord. NOW, I see why Maria helped Allison and went over the edge. Natalie, I concur 100%.
@shrinefilms1 Yes but soaps is suppose to be about story so he's right.
WOW ... your dead to me , I have no father.
RIP
