I bought a cheap tripod from Wall-Mart but I got so frustrated trying to get the nut back in for the adjustment arm, I just threw it away and bought another one. I will never take the adjustment arm out of it again.

Hello Sir, Thank you for giving details about the tripod. On a small note, the hook is provided to hang weights so that the tripod becomes more stable in windy environments, uneven terrain and etc, so we can take sharp pictures. This is highly recommended for light weight tripods when used for DSLR cameras.
