I just looked at the listing, wow £2.75 million. It is absolutely breathtaking ….. something like this would be amazing to stay in but I shudder to think what the upkeep would be like.

no its not flats well not according to the sales brochure, I think there are two properties in there. But to be honest they seem to be a bit funny about people being around the gate there. Still almost adds abit more mystery about the place. Hope you well, big hugs :-)

Interesting presentation. Had wondered where the name of Devizes came from and just, lazily, assumed that it would be of French origin after the conquest. I like the centre of the town full of lovely buildings. I too feel sad that exploration of the castle ends at the entrance gates. The Empress Matilda has long been a figure who I have found fascinating. Her son in particular had such an impact on English history.

Ha - we had Italian prisoners of war in our front room during the war. Hi, Cara, First of all, Devizes Castle is well-maintained and its design is so classic I dreamt of. Wow, I would love to see the original castle built in 1080. Googling... Do you happened to know the cause of fire at the castle? Of course, the material is wood, it must have been just an accident. The stone castle was built by the Bishop of Salisbury as you mentioned. I wonder how the bishop was able to afford to build such a gorgeous castle. I cannot imagine how much funds were spent to complete the castle. Wow, there is quite dispute over this castle between King Stephen and Empress Matilda. Some PPL will never learn even nowadays, but seek for the power. 4:40
I like the sound "the Lady of English." It's is my dream to drive my car through that gate, Cara. 5:09 Good to learn Matilda's son, Henry II, his successful ruling. I see some signs on the gate. Can you tell what they are? 7:05 Although this castle was use as a prison from time to time, the structure is one of kind, I love it. The castle was dismantled and rebuilt for the second time! Epic!
