The one thing that is really missing in this song, is a great guitar solo, especially live. I could see a Gilmourish style, a bluesy dreamy piece coming in at 4:47 building up and fading out toward the end. Still a masterpiece, but as a guitarist, I would step it up another level in this beautiful setting.
I bought the vinyl album this song comes from-The Seeds of Love in the late 80's and played it A LOT, it's still one of my fave albums of any artist. Oleta Adams absolutely nailed this song on the album, her voice and vocal range is stunning. It prompted me to buy her debut album-Circle of One which is excellent. Sadly the singer here (Lyrica Garrett?) doesn't do the song justice. But then, Oleta Adams is a pretty tough act to follow.
Lyrica Garrett's interpretation moves me in its own way. I think it's hard to step into a solo that is so well known for another's version. But Lyrica has her own source from which this vocal tour de force comes. I appreciate both.

He is a creative artist with few equals who earlier emulated The Beatles until they (if still alive and performing together) would eventually be imitating him (and Curt)! I find Lyrica Garrett's performance subpar and grating, and can imagine the groans from those faithful to his rightful partner, Oleta Adams, for her absence. His revealing book, Sex, Drugs and Opera, is mainly one you can't put down until nearly the end. It was the one his editor or publisher chose, leaving me forever wondering how he visualized himself exiting center stage aka life. I expect a brilliant string of surprises to eventually emerge from his unadorned sleeves and renaissance tongue. I hope he's listening.
