This is basically the story of a young man growing to spite his mother for her countless mistakes, and then proceeding to mature and understand how thos mistakes came to be

I've always liked Eminem. My mom wasn't so great either, she did drugs and spent all of her money on them. I was often left to take care of myself and my older brother and younger sister. I relate to some of his lyrics and it really makes me feel more supported and cared about
Two people will remember the same event differently depending on how much it affected them. Considering she was a drug addict that blacked out and forgot most things it makes sense she remembers being a better mother than she was. to her, making up diseases and giving him drugs seems like she was being over protecting and he was ungrateful. Even if she is aware she was lying about the diseases, she thinks she was just taking care of him. She cannot fathom that he remembers the situation differently. Also, as an adult trying to scrape by, the fact that they are alive and have food on the table once a week makes her think she succeeded, while a kid spent his whole childhood starving and watching other kids grow up with much more. One person's successes can still look like failures to others.
