The line "something different bloomed, writing in my room" is about how she turned from high school romance to dedicating herself entirely to her music. The end of the song is about how you learn to depend on yourself. "You're on your own, kid. You can face this. You always have been". The one person who has always loved Taylor Swift, who has always been there and supported her and worked for her to achieve her dreams... is Taylor Swift herself. And I think she is saying that everyone should be like that for themselves.
yes! i always thought of it as a love song to herself. reminding herself and her fans that the only person who can get through the rough times is the person you see in the mirror.
Omg this is why I love Taylor. She's showing everyone how to survive and make this world a better place. And these two men are incredible. If all men were like them then Taylor would have never been hurt❤❤❤❤❤
It's autobiographical I think. I read somewhere that the bridge basically describes the era and it made me SOB: (DEBUT) From sprinkler splashes (FEARLESS) to fireplace ashes (SPEAK NOW) I gave my blood, sweat, and tears for this (RED) I hosted parties (1989) and starved my body Like I'd be saved by a perfect kiss (REPUTATION) The jokes weren't funny, I took the money My friends from home don't know what to say (LOVER) I looked around in a blood-soaked gown And I saw something they can't take away (FOLKLORE/EVERMORE) 'Cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned (RERECORDING) Everything you lose is a step you take (MIDNIGHTS) So make the friendship bracelets
This song is worth the analysis. I think its about the story of her life, it starts as a child with dreams, then she finds out the disappointments and challenges of following your dream, next is all the sacrifices you have to make hoping it will work out, and then in the end, what ever obstacles come her way she realizes she has overcome so much already, she's ready for what ever comes next :)
This song chronicles her career. The first verse is wanting to get out of her town, didn’t fit in, young. A boy caught her eye and she goes to these high school parties and sees all these girls with “better bodies” which starts her insecurities of her body image. Second verse, he loves me not (the boy was uninterested) but something different bloomed (she realized her ticket out was not a boy but her songwriting) and she goes to these parties now and realizes she isn’t so different after all; still seeing all these women that she believes are prettier or better than she is which perpetuates this body image thing. Next, she has made it but its not all that she thought it would be. She now is hosting the parties and starving her body, she put up with jokes and did what she had to do in order to make it, her friends don’t know her anymore, the Kanye West / Carrie reference, then burning bridges later in her career. Until finally, she realizes she’s always been on her own, she’s always handled it, and it will be ok, she can face whatever has been thrown at her because she has always been able to depend upon herself to get her through. This song is her entire career in one song. Its fantastic.
As others have said, this starts with her childhood and then grows along with her. She talks about giving her “blood, sweat and tears for this” (her career). “The jokes weren’t funny” in my opinion is about all the hate and jokes made about her having so many exes and being a slut. “I looked around in a blood soaked gown and saw something they can’t take away” to me is her talking about coming through the second round of drama with Kanye and seeing her fans still there to support her.
More than the fans I think she refers to her talent (eventhough it can be. Abit about the fans too), because let's face it SOME fans DID left her but the one thing she will never lose is her talent and herself
I think it’s a love song to herself. Of learning to love, trust, and validate herself and her own decisions, rather than waiting for someone else to come along and do it for her. That’s just my take though.
Thank you Johnny and Jeremiah!! I am happy for Swift Sundays again! 👏 Did I miss something last weekend? 🤔 Love the whole Midnights album (!), and her concert here in Denver was just beyond!!!!! 🔥🫶 Your reaction was awesome, as always. OMG, Thug Story reaction has ME in tears too! I needed that! ❤ both of y'all...
Happy you are enjoying Swift Sundays. We were unable to post last week due to some issues with UA-cam. So you didn’t miss anything. Thug Story was awesome. Thanks for all your support 😎😎
"everything you lose is a step you take" I think isn't just a general piece of advice but it relates to her re-recordings. she lost ownership of her first 6 albums and decided to do something about it. she is halfway through those re-recordings and doing amazing with them. she is telling us that SHE is the one that has to take a step in making her life even more special. SHE is the one that can own them.
I agree I think this story goes through her life fromDebut… fancying a guy that doesn’t love her, to writing her songs on speak now, missing the Grammy for red, taxi in NY for 1989 starving her body, burning bridges in reputation and the making friendship bracelets and realising how strong she’s become on her own
its about her life! from beggining to now. its beautiful, a fan favorite and the reason everyone started doing friendship bracelets for the eras tour! she’s inspiring as fuck, as usual
She said that her album MIDNIGHTS is all about her struggles in life. Probably this song talks about herself struggling in (maybe) different scenarios. "I hosted parties, and starved my body...", Back then there were a lot of people that said she looks pregnant despite her body shape and it wasn't normal for her to just ignore them...
The bridge Queen did it again with this one. ❤ Its all about backing yourself, she started about being in love with a boy and he didn't feel the same. So shes starts writing songs in her room, then shes singing in parking lots. She then had an eating disorder & lost herself for a bit but then she flips her mindset and takes the chances & chooses her own destiny. Absolute perfection.
Not sure if you’ll see this, but here’s at least what some of the lyrics mean. The first part talks about her childhood and early adolescence, having crushes and realizing it wasn’t corresponded (I searched the party of better bodies just to learn that you never cared) The second verse talks about her discovering her passion and starting to write songs (something different bloomed, referring to using her heartbreak as an opportunity to write and make it art) “I’ll run away” is her realization that she wants to be a famous artist. “I searched the party of better bodies just to learn that my dreams aren’t rare” this is her as a young artist learning that she isn’t the only one with this dream, and that there’s actually a lot of competition in this field. “I gave my blood, sweat and tears for this” she dedicated her entire self to her career to make her dreams come true. She starts talking about all the painful parts of this journey. “I hosted parties and starved my body” she struggled with an eating disorder. “The jokes weren’t funny” her reputation going down and the media making fun of her and being incredibly sexist. “I looked around in a blood-soaked gown and I saw something they can’t take away” she’s now reframing these experiences but in the positive aspects: she made it to what she was always dreaming of, she has her undying fan base who have supported her from the very beginning, and she has become this incredibly strong and amazing person. “Everything you lose is a step you take” I believe that this is in a way a reference to having her masters stolen, since turned it around by being able to re-record her previous works, and being able to release songs from the vault. “Make the friendship bracelets” Taylor swift fans have the tradition to make bracelets to share at her concerts. This comment was one way of saying “live life the way it makes you happy and enjoy those little things that others might mock you for” “Take the moment and taste it” same as the previous line but with a much more deep meaning because of her history with eating disorder. Tasting the moment is related to food, like saying that eating is good especially eating food that is tasty and that we love. Anyways, this is an analysis of You’re On Your Own, and why it’s so special and deep. It’s her life and the life of many girls and women experiencing womanhood with all the good and the bad that comes with it♥️
you guys HAVE to react to Dear John Live from the Speak Now World Tour, it’s about her abusive relationship with John Mayer, when he was 32 and she was 19, it’s so good and emotional. Also, Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve it’s a song from Midnights that she wrote about John when she was 32, his age at the time they were dating and she talks about the constant pain that she still goes through, y’all should definitely react!!
The line "something different bloomed, writing in my room" is about how she turned from high school romance to dedicating herself entirely to her music. My friends from home don't know what to say

And I saw something they can't take away
(FOLKLORE/EVERMORE) 'Cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned
(RERECORDING) Everything you lose is a step you take
(MIDNIGHTS) So make the friendship bracelets
Wow! You’re good!
This song is worth the analysis.

you should check out "timeless" its a vault song on speak now taylors version it paints a picture through the entire song!!!
Love the song Timeless. Beautiful song, musically and lyrically. "Cause I believe that we were supposed to find this" 💋
The lyric video for timeless is also excellent.
Can’t wait for y’all to listen to timeless and back to December
Best song of midnights also bigger than the whole sky
Not sure if you’ll see this, but here’s at least what some of the lyrics mean.

The second verse talks about her discovering her passion and starting to write songs (something different bloomed, referring to using her heartbreak as an opportunity to write and make it art)
“I’ll run away” is her realization that she wants to be a famous artist.
This comment was one way of saying “live life the way it makes you happy and enjoy those little things that others might mock you for”
“Take the moment and taste it” same as the previous line but with a much more deep meaning because of her history with eating disorder.
