I saw it live when I was 9 with my mother & sister. If I remember correctly, it was telecasted at night & when Gopichand defeated Gade, we celebrated together & I was overjoyed. This man changed the badmintion scene for india to a good extent

So many admirable aspects to his personality - speaks so correctly about the game... his role etc And so fluently - at all times better than the language expert interviewing him... ! Awesome. Stays utterly in the background - I have never seen him throwing his weight around...

To beat Peter 'the great' Gade is no small feat and that too at the All England. Wow! Good job Gopichand because Gade is an all time great and a true legend in his own time in Badminton.A sport that undoubtedly sets itself apart from all others in that it brings such intensity in its wonderful variety.Nothing like it on the planet, this or any other! Period!
badmiyagi .s before his win, he lived for a few months in germany/Langenfeld.his trainer xu yan wang is the german national couch now.i saw how he raised him up to that level.i remember that gopi was a very gentle and lovely person.
Gopichand himself is a coach now to the WORLD NO.1 Kidambi Srikant , World No.3 P.V.Sindhu and former World No.1 Saina Nehwal.
So U know what type of players he has created and He himself is a history maker jst like the players he created.
You know, leaders create leaders! He creates leaders who are unbeatable! Bruce Lee used to say: "It doesn't matter where your hands are, they must be able to defend and attack the opponent wherever he strikes." I could see this spirit and tactic in Gopichand. Like, Dhyanchand of hockey was thought of to have some magnet attached to his hockey stick. Love and respect to this great practitioner, and coach!

Gopichand won just a single tournament of any repute in his whole career. But that single tournament was indeed special!
That's because of the sad state of badminton in our country. They didn't have proper coaches, equipment, physios etc., He was able to up his game only by going to germany to train. He had an immense potential that was wasted. He was 28 when he fully realized his potential and by that time accumulated lot of injuries and so had to retire.
He also won commonwealth bronze medal
Besides Peter gade never won the biggest medal that he himself to this day feels sad for as he mentioned in his interviews i.e. OLYMPICS.
whereas Pulela has created two Olympic Medals two legends of Badminton World Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu
@@TheFlightReporter Peter Gade's draw for both Olympics was super unlucky. He ended up facing the eventual gold medalists early on in brackets. He was also the player in 2004 and 2008 Olympics to do the most damage to eventual gold medalists. Taufik's finals opponent played so poorly in comparison as did Lin Dan's. People say Lee Chong Wei did great but Lin Dan was unstoppable but actually, that was the poorest performance I've ever seen Lee Chong Wei do since his first ever matches against Lin Dan. He made alot of unforced errors. Peter Gade's match should've been the finals in both Olympics.
@@upy0ur5 Im sorry mate but LCW is undoubtely a legend...A player with 3 OLY Silvers and even WC Silvers has to be a legend.His performance with consecutive major medals is what makes him a legend...Besides Oly is the biggest dream of any player and You might blame the draw but in Peter's own words He has mentioned that it was just not his day..He never blamed the draw.
A player can be world no.1 but if she or he doesnt win an Oly Medal I think its sad..Its almost imcomplete to be rmemebered unless one finishes at the biggest podium of the badminton.

@Torsten Woelk, yes danke! Wie gehts? I did not know Pulella Gopichand trained in Langenfeld, Deutschland. Apparently Xu Yan Wang did a good job with him, but PG is a 'one hit wonder' in comparison to Peter Gade who is a lifer in the sport. Unfortunately after his All England win he suffered a setback w/injuries that kept him from total recovery. So, he could not keep performing at that level. He is apparently a great gentleman and a very good coach.Thanks for your post in response to mine, Torsten. Where do you play? Keep playing this wonderful sport.Cheers! Badmiyagi
