    ...just smoked it! One of the great Jazz quartets of all time, incredible, Wayne Shorter's mercurial career from Miles's great second quintet to this astounding quartet.

      The form is pretty complex. Those guys sounds so good on it. And Wayne is always so much right on.

    Shorter's Quartet belongs with Trane's and Miles' Quintet as the greatest small combos in jazz.

      Absolutely. It definitely answers some questions I had about the kind of stuff that they play - but makes it no less impressive! It would be great if you could do some more of his quartet. Massive thanks for everything you do on the channel!

    Much prefer the studio version by far for so many reasons.

      That's the thing about improvised music and live playing. It's never the same. Sometimes we get used to one version also. This said, I am not arguing with you. As for myself, I am really enjoying this live version.

      I had never even heard of this tune before, or the Footprints Quartet - until I clicked on a video last month. I heard the album version first and liked it instantly. Mostly because of the synthesizers and the slower tempo.

    Are there chord-changes or is the harmony pretty 'free'?

    • @remi.bolduc
      @remi.bolduc  3 роки тому +2

      I just marked the form and did not transcribe the piece. I would think that there are changes since the from is so strict. I'll have to transcribe them at one point

      The pianist in this video rendition is playing chords. On the studio cut the Head is pretty much in unison throughout.
