Loki went from wanting to be a king for selfish reasons, to becoming a king for selfless reasons. Now THAT’S a character arc!
He arguably transcends being royality or even godhood with what he does here - he makes it possible for a new mutli-verse to exist.
You all need to rewatch the very first movie, you know the one where he says "I never wanted a throne, I only ever wanted to be your equal" to Thor?
Thor has inhereted Odin's looks, battle prowess, the urge to "fight a good (or not) fight" and the chair, even though he ended up giving up the latter pretty quickly... But guess who became an ACTUAL AllFather in the end... Or rather at the end. Of times. And fulfilling a rather glorious purpose too.

He's a unique case in such that he's practically a Watcher of everything, for all time, always.

Tom hiddleston was actually asked to write Loki's final words himself on the last day of filming. That is what he came up with...
Tom also said the final shot of Loki's face was the second take... because he broke down crying in the first one.

From a "puny god" who kept messing with Thor and others to basically becoming the strongest entity in the entire multiverse. One of the best character developments in MCU.
Just an incredible show fr, sadly the MCU will probably Nerf how strong he actually would be, bcuz they don't allow characters to be beyond rideculous strong. But wow Loki just incredible, I hope we get to see more of him bcuz ngl Loki might just be my fav character in the MCU
The development is more that he went from utterly selfish to selfless.
He’s not the strongest, he’s just the guardian. That being said, he is basically omniscient, being able to see into any branch he wants at any time.

That finale was everything. I can't get over it. Oh my god. That ending shot. Absolute madness.
Same. Gonna write a lot here because this episode got me in my feelings, but no rush on reading or replying to all of this, of course. I'm just awestruck.
The imagery of him walking through raw space with every movement being a visible strain to pull timelines along with him, holding knots of time and wearing them as a cloak to quite literally help him shoulder more of the burden... The way he flipped that cape of timelines around with REGAL strain to sit on the throne... The way he became the king of everything like he wanted and predicted, but in a way that nobody, not even him, could ever really want OR predict.
He prophesied via bravado and narcissism that his destiny was to rule. His enemies realized via combat and logic that his destiny was to lose...
The whole time, it was both. He was meant to rule us all by being the heart of Yggdrasil, which is a lonely, sacrificial, and possibly infinite task. That means he "took one for the team" on the greatest level. He was destined to lose, and so he took one more loss. This, however, was the loss he was MEANT to take because it's a loss that had to happen to someone in ordefor the rest to survive. A throne that nobody who grasped the situation would ever want to sit on, much less claim.
Loki is tragedy incarnate, but he turned it into a fucking win for the universe at large. He used his penchant for tragic outcomes to put himself in a position for the ultimate sacrifice play for the entire multiverse, which, in the spirit of this show, brings yet another thing full circle: remember when Loki first flexed on us here on Earth? First Avengers movie. Remember who else was in that one? Steve fucking Rogers, and he said to Tony onboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier that sometimes you gotta be the one to lay on the wire to make the sacrifice play so others can walk over it safely. That line was said among warriors assembled to battle against Loki's invasion in 2012, and here we are 11 years later with Loki putting villainy behind him and trying desperately to cut this wire just like Tony, only to realize it couldn't be cut, and then finally laying on it himself.
The way he created his final crown from the same materials (black rock inlaid with gold veins) as the throne/house at the end of time that he already knew he was gonna sit on. He made damn sure everything matched and looked good haha he even had the gold from the veins near the throne completely wash over the whole thing to make it even more regal before he sat on it... A stylish showman to the end... To the end of all time. Always. 💚

The timelines whipping around to a bit of camera shake really hammers home the gravity and enormity of what he's doing.
Heavy is the head that wears the crown indeed.
And the score, *chefs kiss* it wouldn't have been half as emotional without this.

Bruh.. I recently saw a fan theory and it blew my mind... They say that all this event took place outside time as the failsafe (TVA REACTOR) was destroyed by loki. They say the yggdrasil was loki the whole time right from the beginning; that is when odin taught loki and thor about yggdrasil, this version of loki was still there holding it together....and also there is another theory which states that the time stone got its colour from Loki.
To think this is the same loki that escaped in avengers endgame is mind blowing, the character development is amazing

I love how when the loom was destroyed it sounded like pages flapping in the wind showing that Loki released all the timelines and left them free to grow. He became the god of stories and now ensures each timeline is unchained for better or worse.

Best MCU series by far, and Loki has the best character arc too. He went from badly wanting glorious purpose to being the multiverse god, so so so good. This quote from Loki in infinity war ties in perfectly with the end ”The sun will shine on us again."

Before Loki always wants the throne but always overlooks the responsibilities it bears. But now he took the responsibilities and for that the throne acknowledged him as its true master
It's also such a simple thing, it's not a grand throne, it's not a 'big chair', it's almost more of a stool. This is a burden, not glory, but one he accepts because there are people who matter to him more than he does to himself.
They who accept responsibility gain great power. Those who desire great power lose great responsibility.

This entire season 2 has been peak MCU content! That episode last night was the best MCU thing that came out this year! Natalie Holt is a major reason for why this show is as good as it is! Amazing epic version!! 🔥💯💚
She may not be the next John Williams (Obi-Wan soundtrack was meh), but she absolutely OWNS Loki's world in terms of music.
I was really upset that he went from an Avengers level threat to whatever he was in season 1, but not gonna lie I am 200% happy with the way season 2 ended. Best story arc ever. He went from an being a villain that was an avengers level threat, to the Avenger of lost timelines through all of time and space. Coolest character development ever! He is quite literally a Timelord!
I was kind of having the same feeling throughout the show until the finale. Then I realized that he really was just keeping his powers on lock this whole time because he knew that if he went full tilt, then he may as well also fully commit to the full tilt and be the one to make a sacrifice play that nobody else could even make, since nobody else nearby was a god who could revive whole timelines.
I was saying from the first episode of this season that "He's a god, and he wouldn't even need the suit to walk out there, so why isn't he the one walking out there?" Then, by the end of the season, he came to the same conclusion that I did.
Fucking seamless writing for a previously selfish character shedding the last vestiges of his selfishness. He spends this season slowly realizing that he, as a god, could just overtake and fix most of this issue himself... but only IF he is willing to, ironically, "lay on the wire/make the sacrifice play," as his opponent Captain America said over a decade ago onboard that helicarrier to people trying to battle AGAINST Loki haha.

He finally claimed his throne, He finally won, He was finally able to save his friends...but, it was all at the cost of having to constantly experience what he tried to prevent from happening, with all his being...

Actually he is also a god of illusion, he can duplicate himself and travel throughout the multiverse, while his true self sitting in the throne! I hope they do that in the coming films/series.
@@NaaniSensei Yea, but that's what they are, illusions, they aren't clones, copies or duplicates, they can't interact with anything physically and they don't hold information and memories for Loki to see....also, he can only make them where he can perceive them (Watch them, if you didn't know)....and he has to keep his magic constantly focused on keeping the branches alive, otherwise the branches die...so he can't leave the "end of time" and go somewhere, to make an illusion, that he will have to watch to keep the illusion "alive"

What an ending. This series had so many awesome moments and the ending was perfect. The music of this series is truly glorious for a glorious purpose.
Loki went from a jealous younger brother to a villain to a hero and the god of time... I think he's one of my best Marvel characters.

That finale was absolutely amazing. "Glorious Purpose" is a burden, but to choose to accept that burden, to make the hard choice to do the hard thing, that was a wonderful thing, and it was a visual spectacle watching it all go down.

Loki, the God that made mistakes, killed innocent people, lost his way, and yet, the God that could eventually find himself, not giving up after centuries fighting for the Multiverse, and making the ultimate sacrifice so a Multiversal War doesn't happen.

He didn't stop the Multiversal war, it's still gonna happen, he just saved the Multiverse and allowed everyone to live.

The very fact that yggdrissil existed for Odin and Thor to speak of it means Loki was there, alone in his throne, holding the multiverse together for all of time. By far the best crafted character in the MCU. His arch never had a dull. It was sheer perfection
A villain, a anti-villain, a hero, a GOD.
I already loved Loki, but this show made him my ultimate favourite MCU character. No one even comes close. His journey from Thor 1 to this finale is one of the best character development I've seen in the MCU, such an organic transition from a son and brother who just wanted to prove himself no matter the cost to a god who understands what it truly means to be king and took on the burden with a heavy heart, but also with determined purpose. His story is a Shakespearean tragedy: he fought for a throne all his life and in the end got it when he didn't ask for it. What an incredible and sorrowful journey.
When Sacred Timeline Loki was killed in Infinity War, I was pissed as hell. I couldn't believe they killed him off just when he was about to leave his powerhunger behind. But if this is the end of Loki as a character, I feel content and satisfied. It hurts, oh god it hurts to see him alone at the End of Time, but the story is complete as it is. The only thing I ask for now is to see Thor and Loki reunite for one last time, for Thor to see what his brother had become and finally being able to move on.

Loki has always been my favorite MCU character. Seeing him redeemed is everything! His character development is so glorious ❤. I could see so many parallels in this series with the comic 'Agent of Asgard'.
I just loved the character arc of Loki, it feels as heart touching as Ironman 's. The villain of the Avengers movie has turned out to be the God, the saviour of m.c.m.

I watched the ending over a few times just to hear this version. Such a good finale, and this music was so epic. Brings even the theme full circle. I still haven't gotten over this episode

Wanda lost a robot she loved & two imaginary sons whereas Loki lost his real family & friends he cared about... He made the ultimate sacrifice by being forever alone in exchange of saving infinite lives of infinite timelines... On the other hand Wanda captivated an entire town to adapt on her grief... She is nowhere near of the sacrifices that Loki made & selfish af
