  • Today we're taking a first look at the Asobo / Carenado Pilatus PC-12 in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 - flying a route from Mount Beauty, via Canberra to Shellharbour in Australia. We'll explore the airports, and the aircraft along the way.
If you would like a functional start-up procedure for the aircraft, you can get it here:

I have written up the functional start-up procedure for the aircraft (including a lot missing from the in-aircraft checklist) - you can get it here - ko-fi.com/s/49a77689fa

On the left of the pilot's MFD there's an OVERLY label; pressing the switch next to this opens a menu which allows you to turn on weather radar, virtual terrain etc.

Maybe you figured this out later in the video, but you mentioned that the screens are touch screen, but the four big screens are not. In the center console area behind the throttle lever is a hand rest. On the front of the hand rest is a ball that acts as a mouse cursor control. On the left and right sides of the hand rest are buttons. Left button clicks on things and right button moves the cursor among the other screens. There's also a scroll wheel just left of the ball, when the cursor is over the map you scroll it to adjust zoom or hover it over a list like the flight plan and it will scroll the list up and down. You can also click the scroll wheel to the left and right for some shortcuts. Many of the things you clicked on the screen are accessed by pressing the hard buttons next to the screen. Also, I don't know if it's modeled in the sim, but in the real NGX we use the checklist button on the yoke to run all the electronic checklists. That will help you make sure important things are getting done and at the right time.

For anyone wanting to really understand the PC-12 systems, take a look at the "Honywell Technologies" UA-cam channel. There are numerous videos detailing every aspect, and I mean every aspect, of the Apex avionics systems of the PC-12. You'll see that the systems depth of the Carenado model is very impressive for a default aircraft. You can also have a look at the "Pilot Kaity" channel. Kaity is a real life PC-12 pilot and her plane has the exact same avionics setup as the Carenado model. You'll also see that flying the PC-12 single pilot in real life is a lot more demanding than in MSFS-2024.

Seeing that PBY Catalina there makes me wish there was a flyable one in the sim. I’d love to fly one.

I would recommend you opening the oxygen with the lever to the right of the center console

i get hypoxia warnings and a failed mission after climbing to FL250. sadly the oxygen lever doesnt work and the other relevant buttons are dummies. also the cabin pressure seems to be faulty in that it isnt displayed as an altitude equivalent. also all kinds of autothrottle oscillations for no reason. great job asobo/carenado.

Carenado proves, once again, they can't do Systems depth or Flight Models worth a damn, but it is the best *looking* default Turbo-prop in 2024.

Flight model still manages to be better than the SWS PC-12

@pythosdegothos6181 Yes. There's many thing that don't work in the plane, even after the recent update.
With the like of Just Flight, A2A, Black Square and others, Carenado just continues to be bottom of the barrel.
Carenado is literally only ever known for "being eye candy". Even then, Working Title did the Avionics for this one.
It's nice to have an NGX, but it's a tradegy that it's from Carenado.

Is it just me or is U-tube squashing the heck out of the video? I see compression pixels all around every edge of the aircraft. Is looks so bad i had to stop the video and open 2024. I just bought the standard ver of msfs2024 but holy #$@* the graphics are much improved! It has not been playable for me until now but a 30% reduction in my 7900xtx and 20% more use in the 5800x3d !! yeah.
Thank you for the video Jonathan I wouldn't have sought out this aircraft but i flew it over Phoenix int. and had a blast! You can really see proper auto traffic on the streets at FL025. Eager to test with all 3 main monitors running.

Any chance to chang baro unit from inHg to mBar? I tried to find out but failed.

@@flyhigher_tony On the very small bottom screen of the center console, click on the DU CCD button. Then click on the Lower MFD button and then on the Page button. This will open a list on the Lower MFD which is situated just above the small screen. Click on the Avionics button and you will get a BARO Corr button that lets you toggle between IN and HPA. It is not easy to find, but then it is not something most pilots IRL will change very often. And this is another indication that the systems depth on this model is quite deep. Those who say it is not just don't know what they're talking about. Haters gotta hate, right?
