Thanks for your video. I am planning to build my prefab later this month. I know I will need to install a solar fan, your video has given me ideas. Thanks!
Good luck with your build. If I were to go back, I would probably go with just a little bit larger fan. This one does great, but now that we are getting into 90F days, it does struggle a little to move enough air.
Your greenhouse videos have been super helpful! I'm currently putting up my own, and I have really appreciated all of your tips about doing the job solo. I dug out my thin kevlar gloves for dealing with the aluminum. 🤣 Just wanted to say thanks!
I am very happy to hear that they are helpful! The gloves are a good idea but I think the plastic panels were worse than the aluminum. I really appreciate your feedback. Good luck with it!
How well has the fan worked? What kind of temperatures have you had? Both the outdoor temperature and the temps inside the greenhouse with the fan working? Thanks for the installation video. I'll be setting up my own greenhouse soon. I have side windows, not roof vents. I want to build a cupola to hold a fan on the north side and a clock on the south side. The largest fan I'll be able to have is probably 14 inches. The GH itself is 9ft x 14 ft with a 9 ft peak on a hip roof shape. I'm hoping this will work well enough to keep my plants alive in summer. 91F to 98F is not at all unusual here in central Alabama in July and August.
You are welcome! I would say it has done pretty good. We get 90-100 temps frequently here as well. I keep the doors open on the hottest days and between that, the fan, and the 50% shade cloth, it manages to keep the temps within 10 degrees of the outside temp. If I leave the doors closed, it gets very warm still. Ideally, I would have put the fan up higher, and maybe get a larger fan, but that is what the budget could afford. Overall, I am very happy with how it does. I grew gigantic tomato plants and peppers in there this summer. Summary of my experience... Get the largest fan you can fit/afford, make sure you have good airflow either with vents down low or with open windows/doors, and don't be afraid to add a shade cloth through the hottest part of the year.
@@honeyrockacres Please accept my apologies for asking such a stoopid question! It hit me in the middle of the night. Of course it is over...it's a fan, not an air conditioner! (sheesh, I feel dumb!) However, along that line of thought, there is a commercial greenhouse near me that has a 'swamp cooler'. I've always heard that they only work in dry climates, but I can't imagine these farmers spending on something that would be useless. They don't sell to the public and I've never stopped there, but I may do so if I happen to see them there. Again, thanks for all your help.
@@AquarelleArtist No worries at all. I've done the same. Haha. I have seen those swamp coolers. They are pretty cool. We had one in our greenhouse in high school. There is another name for those that I can't think of.
What % of shade cloth and what size do you prefer for this greenhouse? I have the exact same one. I found your video while on the hunt for a sufficient solar fan. Unfortunately the one linked is no longer available. 😭
I have a 10X12 55% shade cloth that I use on the inside of the greenhouse. It might be a bit more effective on the outside, but this way was more convenient and seems to still work well. I would go with a bigger one if I was going to drape it over the top.
I like. I probably would have put thermostat further from fan air flow.

@@honeyrockacres Thank you for your reply.
On the 10 degrees, is that usually 10 degrees hotter or lower?
thanks again!
@@AquarelleArtist No problem. It's usually about 10 over the outside temp.
