@Bella B That is because you have a big heart. I wish Winnie would have stayed with Jesse. I know he loved her big time I know what its like to be in love. I have been with my fiancée since September 2010. It was love at first sight good thing I was in a toxic relationship with a psycho girl who broke my heart to many times to count.
I know the line “I will love you until the day I die” makes everyone cry. For me the line “When I’m gone wake up with the dawn” had me crying so much and I don’t know why that made me so emotional.
This movie came out in 2002 and I was nine years old and it made me cry then 20 years later and it still gets me every time he says I will love you till the day I die
not tryna be sensitive, but isn't the entire story just child abuse and grooming. Jesse is 104 and Winnie is 10, a 94 year age gap doesn't make it right just because he looks like he's 17. And also, the entire story is literally about Winnie developing stockholme syndrome.
I was in fourth or fifth grade when I first saw this. I remember thinking then, and still wondering now, why she didn't drink from the spring. The only other person who knew anything about the spring was dead. She had a much better relationship with her parents after this was all said and done, so as time went on and she still looked the same, she probably could have found the freedom to move away. I dunno, I think if she'd really wanted to go with them she would have and could have gone. My other question is, he said he'd come back for her when it was safe. Knowing the above mentioned fact that no one else knew about the spring, I don't understand why it took him 100 years to make it back to Treegap. 20 or 30 probably would have taken care of everyone who knew about Ma Tuck killing the Yellow Suited man.
+Brittany Cookiescar The main lesson here though isn't whether she loved Jessie and wanted to go with him or not (though she did) it's about not being afraid of death and living your life to the fullest. I hate to bring this horrible movie up but I can't help but make a comparison so I apologize in advance...Twilight had many things that made it a horrible example for young women but the main thing that made me the angriest was how quick Bella was to just abandon her friends, her family, and even gave up on experiencing a real life for this one guy, That's a dangerous message to send to young girls!! Not to mention that to decide on immortality when your just a teenager is beyond wrong. Winnie however, no matter how much she loved Jessie, she chose to experience and appreciate life for what it's supposed to be (a gift) not just something you wander through. She didn't have Jessie, but she had her family, she had her children and husband. I just hate it when movies and books make romantic love the end all be all for women, and that if you're not willing to sacrifice everything for that person then that some how means you never really loved that person to begin with, when that's not true at all. Now about the years...he didn't wait 100 yrs, It says she LIVED to 100, so you need to subtract Winnie's age when they met. But it was still a long ass time so I agree with you on that. Maybe he took a wrong turn?
There’s a quote in the movie saying that for Jesse, time didn’t exist. So he may not have meant to wait so long, it’s just that he doesn’t have a good grasp of time.
My teacher I think read this book to us when we were all in fourth grade. Back in 2002 or 2003 then I watched the movie when it came out on DVD and rented it with my mom. I love this movie I would have loved if Jesse and Winnie would have stayed together.
I was balling in this scene when we watched it in class and my classmates had a straight face like they didn't even care or their bored and they thought I'm very weird for crying.

while I loved this movie, I thought the ending was horrible.. jesse said he would come back when she was 18,, and for her to drink from the spring so they could be together for ever.. well he didn't come back two years later.. he came back decades later.. she lived to be a 100. what if she had drank from the spring.. she would have lived till he came back and would have been alone while her family and friends died around her.. OR like them would have left town.. so the end to me was only good because I was glad she did NOT drink the water.
Why did he wait 90 years and then was so upset? Did he try at any point to contact her? I get the kind of unrequited thing, but I feel like there should be an in between story
I used to love this scene for romantic purposes...but then, you realise that Jesse is making her give up her family. Her parents clearly love her very much, and she loves them back. I think it's pretty selfish of Jesse to do this, because he never knew her parents! Winnie probably knew this, so that's why she didn't drink the water. And seriously, 88 YEARS??!! Did he travel the world BEFORE coming back for her??? Unless her parents were really abusive people, which they weren't, she had no reason to leave. I get it. Jesse didn't want anyone to know about the spring. It was always about the spring. Do you remember, he wasn't so nice to her in the beginning? Technically, Winnie had every right to drink that water, considering her father owned those woods. Who was Jesse, a traveller, to tell her otherwise? Practically a tourist. That's like trying to tell a rich person not to have their own luxury when they paid for it. Guy: You can't have that Lamborghini. Girl: But I paid for it. Guy: I said, leave it alone! (He takes the keys from her hand and throws them away) Girl: You know what, don't talk to me again! It was a mistake talking to you! Can you guys see it yet? Jesse lied to Winnie, and he physically touched her in a way that wasn't pleasant. He was aggressive, and not kind. Why have so many women fallen for such men who CLEARLY have no respect? It was HIS fault in the first place that she wanted the water in the first place. She never wanted it before that. Don't go for someone who will make you give up your whole LIFE. Go for someone who's willing to live it WITH you. Jesse lost Winnie, and he had to deal with the consequences. That's what happens when you only care about your own selfish desires. So, whoever is reading this, please take this piece of advice; DON'T. BE. SELFISH! Thank you!
@@1.Nika.1 the point of the book is that immortality was a curse, not a blessing. And all the Tucks were fundamentally unhappy and stuck in or out of life. The youngest son was trying to pull someone else into it to make it easier for him, not better for her. In the book, the Tucks are the tragic ones, and the girl is the heroic one because she escapes their fate and chooses to face death and live a normal life. This subverts that by making the immortal family the happy and balanced ones and her missing out on it a tragic romance and missed opportunity that's the fault of the crazy normies who won't accept them.
Also in the book she's, like, ten years old and he's 102. So you've essentially got an emotionally immature centenarian grooming a ten year old to become his immortal love puppet. It's a bit like the vampires in Interview with the Vampire. It doesn't go that way, of course, because the family stops him and helps her see sense, and it's a kids' book, not an Anne Rice novel. But it reminded me of it.
Only thing I find stupid about this whole movie is he waited 100 years before he came back that’s a long ass time even if she did drink from that spring after 100 years she probably done what I had a family and everything by then and had them all drink from it and he wouldn’t of had a chance in hell when he came back

cute indeed ^^
So basically, he'll love her literally forever 😍
