    I'm a home DIY'er/weekend warrior. I was using Meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax for a while, and it worked, but I noticed it would break down quickly if you weren't keeping up with maintaining it by using it every few weeks. I decided to try a strip wash, used the Chemical Guys flavor, and it actually did great at removing it. I switched to Griot's Garage ceramic spray wax and it's been really tough, even in AZ. I did a strip wash > dry > iron decon > rinse then dry > then applied the Griot's to a dry surface. It came out nice. Thanks for the content!

    I’m surprised they sent you the green strip wash since Adams just introduced a new strip wash, which is yellow and is acid based no one on UA-cam seem to review it yet curious to the difference between the two

    Lots of great advice here and Phil definitely knows his stuff very well! Iron remover is a cool product and the red river is fun to watch. I am cheap and use iron remover sparingly because the clay mitt does get rid of most of it. I watch your channel because I enjoy learning. For ASMR I am watching Rad! Thank you for the video!

    Only chemical I've experienced strip sealants, is a stronger acid. Not on my car, but I used an oxalic acid to remove the brown staining in the waterline of the gelcoat/boat. That stripped the remaining polymer sealant. You could see a clear difference where the acid was applied and the rest of the hull. But gelcoat is tough.
    I don't want to use so strong chemicals on my cars clearcoat. On my own car I just stop applying durable protectants/toppers some time before I know im going to polish the car. Just using some drying aids.
    Btw: I enjoy listen to you explaining detailing stuff, not missing ASMR. 👍

      @MirandaDetailing  7 місяців тому +2

      Hi. From what I have experienced strip washes don’t do much. I’d rather use an apc like I usually use as my pre wash, that goes for wheels and the paint.

    Is iron remover even really that important on the paint it you're going to polish anyway? I can see the importance of a claybar if the paint is very rough, but I don't think their will be enough iron on the paint to really make a difference if you are gonna polish anyways.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  Рік тому +1

      Exactly, Good thinking and reasoning on that. Polishing will remove a lot of surface contaminates anyway

    • @KiranPatel-fk1pg
      @KiranPatel-fk1pg Рік тому +1

      The point of removing as much contamination as possible before polishing is that you don't remove during polishing. Removing during polishing is counterintuitive as your clogging up pads and grinding more dirt into the paint while trying to remove scratches. So ideally you want the paint as clear as possible prior to polishing.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  Рік тому +1

      I used to think the same way…until I realized from experience that it actually doesn’t do that. People say it but can’t prove it…it’s just a repeating of what other detailers have said on UA-cam. I fell into that trap once also.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  Рік тому +1

      Hi. I haven't used that polish before, for all ceramic coatings we use Dr Beasleys NSP primer polishes.
      THey clean and prep the paint for any coating. If you want to remove the previous coating you can polish it with a medium polish and foam pad like you mentioned. Or even a microfiber pad would cut through faster. then finish with the NSP Primer polsihes.

    Meguires tire shine takes off paste wax goop embedded in your black plastic trim.. scrub it in.. wipe it off with paper towels.. didn't try on paint, but probably ok. it works! Ceramic spritz on "waxes" don't mess up your black trim is my second trick.

    • @markhall3434

      Actually if you rub in the spritz on while wet, it seems to kinda work on paste wax removal. Not conclusive, but appears to work with some extra effort. The Meguires tire shine clearly dissolved it.

    Wait so do i HAVE to polish everytime i claybar

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi. What I meant by “you will be doing some sort of polishing” is if a Detailer is going this far to do a heavy Decon and then a major clay barring or clay toweling that usually means it’s part of a service that will include polishing. For our services that we offer we don’t Decon that heavily unless it’s part of one of our polishing services. Clay bar/towels will leave some marring on soft darker colored paint, especially if the paint is heavily contaminated. So a very light polish or even machine applied protection like a wax or sealant applied with a da is needed to remove that marring.

  • @TheTruth-dm8wd
    @TheTruth-dm8wd Рік тому +1

    Interesting! The way I used that iron remover and strip wash is a little different.
    Pre-wash with hot water
    Contact wash with regular shampoo
    Iron remover
    Clay bar
    Strip wash last
    In my experience is strips the surface pretty well based. No beading and take linger to dry.
    I only do all of that before machine polishing and coating.

  • @edruiz6364
    @edruiz6364 Рік тому +1

    Providing that you applied a sealant or coating correctly, or how you stated that the product has run it's course, nothing but polishing the vehicle will completely remove it. If not all the durability tests are bogus, which they're not.

    i’ve yet to have to strip and ceramic coating but to add a coating (db36) i had hell trying to get TW’s Flex Wax off. it was only 3 weeks old and 2 laser washes, aoc pretreat and adams strip combo later finally got it off 😜

    Great timing!!! I just did a strip wash & chemical decon. plus, clay and polish on a vehicle. I then applied a hand wax for protection (Happy Customer). #Detailglovebox

    Thanks for the video, actually just got this box and I have always wondered about the strip washes so thank you for showing me how much it really does. Also I always clean the car first and iron decon while I clay. I also have Iron-x snow foam that I wash with before I clay just to try and remove as many little particles as possible. Lastly the ASMR is just not for me. I come to you to learn things not just watch and hear sounds of a car being washed. #DETAILGLOVEBOX

    Hey Phil. Love these videos and took your advice and bought a SPTA mini polisher. Works perfect for someone like me, the enthusiast. Would have liked a Rupes hybrid, but couldn’t justify the cost, but this will do everything I need it to do. Thanks for the heads up and recommendation. Thought I’d let you know and appreciated your advice. Till the next one.

    Phil: Great video with lots of useful information. Given that it is now pollen season how often do you wash your car?

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  Рік тому +1

      Thanks. Pollen season is finally past here, but usually I would wash it if it was really bad with dirt, but I would let it sit longer without touching it if it was dusted with pollen.

    Very fun video. Question: I had some tree sap on a hood. Tree was really spraying it around. Felt like paint over spray. The hood had Carpro Cquartz coating on it. Ok....tried couple things to remove sap, but only thing that removed it was Citrol 266. Washed hood with Carpro Reset, rinsed, and panel acted like it had no coating. Flat water, no beading or sheeting. I was shocked. Did Citrol remove or damage the coating? Scrambling for answers as to what happened. Hi wife!

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  Рік тому +3

      Oh no! How long had the coating been on there? It still may be residue. I would dry it and wash it again and perhaps use carpro Tar X to try to remove that residue.

      Citrol266 has a ph of 9 so it should not have “stripped” the coating because typically a true ceramic coating(not a spray coating) is ph resistant from 3-12. Citrol also flushes very well with water. I would only try using tar remover on one panel to see if it works. If it doesn’t then you didn’t waste a bunch product for nothing. Gyeon Tar works similar to Citrol so I suspect using that won’t make a difference now. I would wash the hood with your favourite car soap and flush the hood very well with water. If it’s still sheeting then your coating protection is more than likely gone. You’ll need to repolish the panel, IPA wipe or panel prep and recoat.
      So here are some of my concerns: why didn’t the tree sap come off with just using a ph neutral car wash? Coating is only 1 year old so it should still be rejecting sap. Out of curiosity, do you happen to know from what kind of tree the sap came from? Here in my city(Kelowna, BC) the worst trees for sap are Willow, Spruce and Fir. I have a 7 year rated coating (Kronos by Phoenix EOD) on my truck and the Willow sap(feels like overspray) just comes right off with regular car wash soap. For Spruce sap blobs I use Methyl Alcohol. A heat gun to get it really warm and gooey helps tremendously.
      Anyways, just another suggestion from another detailer. Please let me know what you ended up doing. I can always learn more, especially from a pro like Phil.
