Sapporo is the 2nd snowiest city in the world, with an average annual snowfall of 4.85 meters/15.91 feet ... #1 is Aomori, a seven hour drive south of Sapporo, and it gets almost double the snow Sapporo does
Love it! Here in Northern Italy, winters like this were once quite frequent. With the turn of the century, everything changed. Air conditioners on last October...20°C (68°F) on Christmas Eve, none or almost frost days in the whole season....blooming in February and now round with half sleevs in early April
To Australians like me, snow is a wonderful thing, like magic. It snows in Australia, but it's generally restricted to a few small alpine areas. Only a tiny fraction of our population has regular access to snow - there is no major population centre where it snows. I've walked in light snow on a mountain in Tasmania, but never seen it falling from the sky.
I went to Hokkaido 3 years ago in 2019 and wanted to go back so badly because it's such a beautiful and peaceful place. Now that the travel restrictions are lifted I might go again during the winter.
You wouldn't want to be in a snow storm. This video shows a nice snowy day, everything is just great. Nothing is great in a snowstorm and your life could very well be in danger, people have frozen to death meters from their house.
Love your channel. This is how I imagine a perfect winter. Sadly there is no snow anymore in the part of Germany where I live. I've watched so many different channels where people show Paris, Barcelona or New York but nothing comes close to the futuristic and clean look of Japan. Beautiful country from what I've seen so far. Just stunning!
@@zarrowthehorse it used to snow when I was a child here but now it's not anymore. Maybe 1-2 days per year but that's it. When I was a child we had snow early December until very late February even beginning till mid if march.. only a fairytale nowadays..
Last time i saw that much snow here in my country was in December 2010. Beautiful landscape there in Sapporo. Hope to see Japan one day. Konichi wa ! 🇯🇵🇩🇪
December 2010 was the UK's coldest since 1890. We had persistent cold for weeks. I remember when the second major storm hit us about a week out from Christmas; it came down very quickly. I watched it out of my window over about an hour. I think in the end we had about four inches of it on the outskirts of London. Some places along the east coast got feet of it.
This brings back a lot of memory’s when I went to Japan in 2018 I am 11 years old now and I went with my mum sister cousins and dad we went skiing saw snow monkeys japan had memories I will never forget thank you the crunching of the snow also brings a lot of memory’s flooding back it makes me emotional because now days it’s so expensive and there’s COVID I wish one day I can go back 😞
I visited Sapporo back in November of... 2016? 2017? This video brings back some good memories. What an incredible city to just walk around and take in. The underground sections just blew my mind when I was there.
hi there! these days have s been so hot in my country but it felt so cooling and refreshing watching this video! it really worked ! thank you for taking the time to make it,greetings from Greece.
Now that I'm old, I prefer watching the snow on videos than actually living through it. I can't believe people would willingly live with all that snow even if it is beautiful.
Stunning! Great video quality and that crunch! Better than the chips I'm eating now :) I've had enough snow here in Canada but your walk made me feel I'm missing out a lot from not enjoying and savoring a heavy snowstorm walk Just lovely, I really enjoyed this video and Olaf was there, too. Next time I go out, I'll be more mindful of the beauty only one can enjoy when it's snowing. Stay warm!
This is my ex-homecity! Living in Sapporo was precious moment for me:) I really miss sapporo... You can enjoy comfortable summer, delicious food, great nature (and extreme heavy snow, of course.) So highly recommendable!
I am actually moving to Sapporo soon and this not only gave me an idea of what the city looks like but also the snow to expect lol. Thanks for the amazing video!
Usually, the park event, "White Illumination," is a huge scale. It's a quiet scene because of the pandemic. a lot of shops were closed too. but the snow light is so beautiful! In winter, people in Sapporo walk in underground malls Thank you for filming in the snow. Please come back and take a film when get back to the original bustling winter city ❣️
there's something so weirdly cozy about snowy cities with neon everywhere. like Christmas-y New York in Die Hard. Really hope I can go to japan around christmas.
Despite Sapporo city is heavy snowfall area,Sapporo metropolitan area has over 2.3 milion populations‼️ This city has a huge underground mall and some subway lines.
This video is giving me much-needed sanity. We're currently having the warmest, most disappointing winter I've ever experienced in southern New England. I miss the snow this year! I'd love to move to Sapporo or pretty much anywhere else in Hokkaido.
I live in Tokyo and took a two-week-long trip to Hokkaido in Jan. It snowed every day and perhaps every time, from Wakkanai to Hakodate. At least the Snow Festival is fantastic and I love the underground passages in Sapporo. Much easier than Tokyo but reliable and safe.
We were in this park in cherry blossom season april , it looks so different in snow , I remember how wast and long this was right down the middle of the city we sat at a picnic table and had coffee. Thankyou so much for your movies 🇨🇦🏳️🌈
The collaboration of snow and light is fantastic

If it is south of Sapporo then why does it get more snowfall
@@Aurmm you know too much
@@rokas-d8o can you awnser my question?
@@Aurmm winds from siberia sweep harsh winters south of Sapporo, while Sapporo gets less of the wind patterns from siberia.

This is so heartwarming... My three favorite things combined: winter, snow and Japan. Love it

Beautiful. A lot of people were out having fun in the snow.
The city in winter is beautiful, the soul relaxes when walking here
i’d really like to go to japan, it was always my dream 😭😭.
Beautiful! Thank you Virtual Japan.
I really have no desire to live in a city, but being able to walk around in a snow storm seems absolutely amazing.
Lol trust me its no fun i live in montreal and when its snowing we kinda do nothing for 4 months but work or study
