  • We talk about the Temple of the Eye of the All Father in today's video and how you can customize it to let your players have more challenge and fun during the sessions you take them through here.
Also I interchange Wormblood and Stormblood because my mind wasn't really there during recording I guess :)

Gamma!!!! After a long looong hiatus, we are finally meeting up again and arriving at the Eye this week. I love the idea of draconic magic behind the trap and the twist of the barbarians. I now have only 6 players as others have dropped off. Thanks for all the help with thinking of more players!

      No problem Kevin!
Just make sure to emphasize her eyes, the trap and her threatening them through the statue and you're gonna be golden.

@@gammarayz1 It went awesome. It had an effect I didn't expect. So, all of the draconic magic freaked out one of my players (along with large scratches on the walls that weren't explained yet), and he stayed in the entrance hallways while everyone else explored the Eye. He stayed there and wouldn't budge, but saw Iymrith coming through the doorway and into the complex. He succeeded on his frightened saving throw and ran into the oracle to warn the others. They didn't need much convincing to know what they had just seen.

@@kevinagar1412 oh man, what happened next? Did it go as planned or did they manage something else?

@@gammarayz1 Oh man, a lot. He ran to the others who were helping Harshnag retrieve the axe in the other room. They disengaged and ran to the oracle room and locked the portal behind them - leaving them trapped.
TLDR: They talked to the oracle, made a plan, and escaped through a home brew item they received in our LMOP campaign.
They asked the oracle about all the giant lords and locations and got enough info to plan what to do next. This is what they decided:
      1. Go back to Wave Echo Cave and the Forge of Spells (this campaign followed up from LMOP) to enchant their weapons and gear. (What they don’t know is that the forge is actually the “heart of the Vonindod” and is being captured by the dark elves helping the fire giants. They won’t be able to enchant their gear if the drow get away.)
      2. Go back to Yartar to collect the giant slaying weapon and their stolen gear. (They were unsuccessful last time and never even made it to the sewers. The ooze and the lady in purple deceived them and they woke up naked in a wagon full of hay headed to Triboar with their memories from the Grand Dame faded.)
      3. Go to Ironslag to retrieve a conch as well as the dragon slaying weapon which they discovered Glasstaff had. (They discovered this during my one-shot Groundhog Day side adventure.)
      4. Go to the cloud giant lair and the frost giant lair. They were intrigued by these.
      5. Make it to Maelstrom and inform them of “the evil within” - Iymrith and find Hekaton.
After talking with the oracle, they escaped using a “mirror portal” item they acquired from our LMOP campaign. It is a necklace that allows a traveler to pass through a mirror to another designated mirror. The character carries a steel mirror in his bag of holding and the other designated mirror was in the cloud castle. I didn’t expect them to remember this item and tried to have Harshnag plow through to distract Iymrith while they made a break for it. Instead, they left Harshnag in the oracle room with provisions and pleaded with him not to go face Iymrith. He couldn’t promise them he could wait that long. He is, in fact, a warrior and will not let any enemy desecrate this holy place, but will allow them some time.
I cannot express how much Iymrith freaked them all out. I cannot wait for our next session tomorrow. This is their plan for now. The thing I like about STK is the “choose your own adventure” options my players have. And your videos about how to make Oosith more dangerous and linked to Slark are going to be fun to run.

Being flexible enough to not let harshnag get killed when they came up with a real plan that could work is a great job on your part. Well done!
The adventure only gets better from here on out and slowly but surely will become one of, if not the most memorable adventures for your group.

have you seen the homebrew giant stats someone on reddit made? i think the book is called ‘dictates of the ordning’ some interesting variants to the giant stat blocks. i’m thinking of using some of them to replace the giant lords

Honestly no I haven't seen that. I've read the ones on dnd beyond though and they gave me a few ideas on how to make them a bit stronger.
Homebrewing monsters is fun, especially if you know your players are strong and can take down things much higher than the proposed cr budget so I really had fun with Kayalithica and Guh when i ran them.
