  • Ovo Energy You Should Be Ashamed Of Yourselves. How can energy providers be allowed to hike up their costs like this in one year? This can't be right. I have been with Ovo for the past 6 or so years and this is the first time they have hiked up the cost of energy to these over inflated amounts. What do you think?
After nearly 2 years of this pandemic where people's earnings have plummeted due to lockdown, How can it be justified to set these new price increases and expect people to be able to afford them. Dark times ahead as they all follow suit. Is this a cartel, only time will tell.

I tell you something else you wouldn’t believe. Ovo actually charged my account for the £66 monthly government support. They put that £66 into my bank account and then showed it as refund on my bills and added to the balance I owe them. Please check if they have done the same to others as well

I were with ovo and when I told them I were moving house they sent me a final bill which I paid. 2 months later they sent me another final bill for nearly £1k I questioned this and they told me I had 2 electric supplies into the property both bills had completely different MPAN numbers to the original mpan number for the actual meter fitted at the property. 3 yrs later they are still trying to get me to pay the bill 🙄

It didn't take me long to find out what twisters OVO are. I still have old meters because I don't want smart meters otherwise they get to own your bank account. So I play a straight bat and send a reading every month and pay by cheque but they "lose" my cheques yet still cash them so I have to deduct these payments from the bills they send me
Writing phoning emailing them is just a vain task as they literally don't care. They have now sent me a letter to inform me they have a warrant of access. How the hell do they obtain a warrant without me being able to represent my side? If they cannot gain access (which they wont) they will cut off the supply in the road. If they do that or a prepayment meter it will kill me because I am old and not in good health. But the biggest lie they peddle is that their energy comes from renewable. LIARS IT COMES FROM FRENCH NUCLEAR.

Yep, we're heading down the same road here in Australia. No coal, just green, green, green. Forget about the people. I expect folks will go back to wood fires just to keep warm - how's that for the environment. Some councils here even want to ban charcoal outdoor barbecues. 😤

Take a look at Marty T and his solar cost saving systems (PVs connected directly to boiler etc, it is the inverter and batteries that cost). Also get a heat camera and find where your house is "leaking" and stop it. The prices only seem to go up so best to be as self sufficient as possible. For what they are asking you could build a pretty sweet setup.

Knee jerk reaction by the government closing all the coal fired generating stations relying on wind and wave power, but due to low wind during the summer there was a low power supply problem and the UK had to bring two mothballed coal power stations back online just to get through the summer. The phone line just goes dead when I've been on hold for an hour. The one time I did get through to them, they refused to talk to me because I was on supply. They only want to talk to people who are off supply.
Emailing them is just as bad. I have sent several emails and had no reply to any of them.
A week ago having given up on "faster options" I sent them a letter of complaint by 1st class post, guess what, I've not heard back from them.

Hi Martin, they are ALL at it mate !.
My current contract ends next week.
I am with EDF energy and have an electric car, they want to treble my electricity and gas prices IF we opt for a new fixed deal for two years.
You have no choice other to go with the standard variable tariff for now unfortunately mate.
Switching is not an option right now either.
We as a country, are too dependant on our gas supplies from other countries.
Most of our power stations are gas powered, so we are getting double shafted.
What I find hard to understand is this, EDF which is a French company, use's a lot of nuclear energy for their power stations.
There has been no massive increase in the price of that type of fuel ?.
But now we have left Europe, these people are going to exploit every opportunity to shaft the UK in anyway they can, and supplying energy is the quickest route !.
We need to stop burning fossil fuels period, being almost totally reliant on other countries suppling this energy is asking for big trouble !.
As an island, we need to be more self-sufficient or we are going to have to get ready to paying what these people want to charge us !.

Believe it or not the energy companies are losing huge sums of money even on these plans. Electricity prices have skyrocketed along with the price of gas. Unfortunately we have boxed ourselves into a corner by killing off the coal power stations. We are totally reliant on the Russian Gas and they are pushing the prices up and up. Whilst what you say is correct, very little of the vast increase we are experiencing can be directly atttributed to Russia, it is still only 3% and that it is hoped this will be phased out in a matter of 8 months. When that is done will we see any dramatic reduction in princes, almost certainly not.
This is something I found on the web which puts things into perpective.
Where does the UK get its oil and gas from?
The UK currently gets its oil and gas from Russia but this is only a fraction (8%) of the fuel products imported to the UK. The vast majority comes from imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is transported to the UK by sea from countries such as Qatar and the US. Other reliable suppliers include the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium. About half of the UK’s gas comes from the North Sea, and a third is sourced from Norway. The UK hopes to have phased out its imports of Russian oil by the end of 2022.
The Russian gas that the UK receives also comes in LNG form but these LNG supplies are very sensitive to global market prices. This is sold to those offering the highest price. The UK market is closely connected to markets in mainland Europe, meaning a price rise on the continent often leads to higher prices here too.

watch all our council tax bills go through the roof providing heating for all those offices, fuel and electricity for all those "greener" vehicles, increased pension contributions and wage rises for all the managers and "officers" at the council as a domino effect of the min wage going up. Then watch the car parks go up in price again.
I was still at school in the 70s, but it's beginning to feel like the winter of discontent is coming all over again.
On a brighter note: A Martin Rant is always a good one 😉

Take a look at wholesale electricity and gas prices - all the other suppliers will be offering very similar packages. This is a global supply issue not just the suppliers taking advantage of you.

Lucky I got a two year fixed rate 4 months ago but rising wholesale gas prices are the reason for this. Just filled my tank up with diesel today, £1.52 a litre. Bloody Ridiculous !!

Have.a look elsewhere. I'm with SSE, part of the OVO group. I bought an electric car and decided to review my charges. I've never experienced such bad service. Absolutely the worst. Hours on the phone, calls dropped while waiting etc. Remember, the standard variable rates can also go down. It's a gamble but if they go up stupidly, you can change without penalty or exit fees on most contracts.I'd definitely check out other providers.

you use almost double the national average. Maybe cut back on the usage. I totally agree with you though, total madness. I use less than 1500kw elec and less than 10000kw gas but Bulb are going to charge me £2200 a year. Mental.

I think you’ll find they’re all at it, we’re with sse, came out of fixed term at the end of October, new tariffs were double, so for now we’re staying on the variable for the time being, robbing bastards, I’d like to know the justification for these hikes in price. We’re also on oil heating, that price has doubled also, why???? Who knows, it’s disgusting
