  • Bablu-da along with Ashish were the last arrangers of Burman Dada. Bablu ji tells about Maruti Rao how devoted he was to Burman Dada and later to son RDB too that he never worked for anyone else.
    About Dada's singing he says: Dada gaana jab gaate the, to bahut devoted jisko bolte hain, waisa gaate the. Hamesha koi bhi gaana gaate the, aankh band karke hi gaate the. Maine bhi dekha hai, kyon ki maine bhi unke saath kaafi picture ka kaam kiya hai, as a violist aur baad mein arranger. Burman Sahib, gaane ke baad jab aankh kholte the, to saamne waale log ek hi baat bol sakte the, ‘It’s a mind-blowing song’. Yeh hi bolte the sab log. Burman Sahib gaana gaate-gaate, gaane ke andar ghus jaate the, kho jaate the!
    In Part Two of this interview Bablu ji tells us, how Dada used to rehearse his composed song with the singer before recording the song. Dada would sing asking the singer to sing along to train the singer how he wanted the song to be sung.During one such rehearsal when Kishore Kumar had come to The Jet bungalow for rehearsing 'Badi sooni sooni hai' from Mili (1975), there was so much pathos in Dada's voice that Kishore Kumar broke down and could not continue. He left saying that he was not ready for the recording as yet, and would intimate when he was ready.

      The style of every music director depends on his arrangers, except four music directors. Their names are SD Burman, Shankar-Jaikishan, Salil Chowdhury and Madan Mohan. This has been said by Dinesh, who has attended many sittings and recordings with his father lyric writer Shailendra.

    Thanks for posting all these videos Lalwani ji. It is so nice to see these legends talk about the great SD Burman. I admire the humbleness with which Babloo da talks about SD Burman. I have seen all the other interviews on dada Burman with Babloo da and others as well - just fantastic! I don't think we will have another SD Burman again. You should also maybe interview Bhupi ji, Bhano da and others who are still around and see what they have to say.

    • @lalwanimoti
      @lalwanimoti  8 років тому +2

      Biswanath Basu, All these legends were more than willing to talk about the greatness of Dada. As you know, Bablu ji was the last arranger of Sachin-da, he worked with son Pancham too. I agree with you that we shall never have another SD Burman ever again. He taught established singers how he wanted them to sing his way (watch Sanju Chakravarty's interview), Besides the interviews Rafi learned how to sing softly during Pyaasa and Kala Pani. It's well known that the picturisation suggested by him to Bimal Roy during Sujata and Bandini, and to Vijay Anand during Kala Bazar, was adapted by them. He showed dance steps to Waheeda who was a well Bharat Natyam dancer herself. He took active part in lyrics and suggested some appealing words too (Meena Kapoor's interview in sdburman.net.) and my own voice recorded interviews. He played tennis well, and took active interest in football, hockey, volleyball and other games. He was the only music director who wrote his autobiography. I could go on and on, but this space is too small. Thanks for appreciating and letting me know about it.

      @arup Kanti ji, Yes, that was SDBurman. Singer’s voice has to be perfect on the day of recording. The lyrics have to be sweet sounding. The instruments should be minimum so that they don't dominate the singer’s voice. Being an excellent singer himself, Dada knew how to get the best out of his singers. During rehearsal unless he is satisfied, there will be no recording. Happy that you have liked the interviews. Thanks

      @madico For lyrics you may have to give part credit to the composer S.D. Burman. In one of his published interviews Anand Bakshi has said that ‘Ishq Par Zor Nahin’ (1970) was his first film with S. D. Burman. He took out an old poem that he had written during his days with the Indian Army. The poem was, ‘Yeh dil diwana hai’, and read it out to Dada Burman, after listening to which Dada agreed to work with him. The original poem had ‘Yeh dil diwana hai’ only once, and it was Dada who added the rest in the mukhda, ‘Dil to diwana hai’, ‘Diwana dil hai yeh’, etc. Aradhana was next. Ishq Par Zor Nahin’ got delayed owing to Sadhana’s eye problem.

    hmm... why is the interviewer biased towards RD Burman? Both father and son were great. I don't know what the interviewer is trying to prove after more than decades after RD and SD's death. This kind of interview would be great if the interviewer allowed these musicians to share some anecdote. For everything else, SD's and RD's music is the answer.

      @lalwanimoti  7 років тому

    • @k44fir
      @k44fir 7 років тому +3

      Exactly. It would have been great if you'd have allowed them to talk instead of diverting the conversation back to the point that you are trying to make. Even in this interview he was going over Satte Pe Satta and suddenly you cut him and pulled him back to the original conversation. Now, nobody knows what he wanted to share about Satte Pe Satta. I have noticed this in many of your interviews. Whenever there is a mention of RD, you try to divert the conversation. I appreciate what you are doing but I believe in times you should have bit broader mind about it. They are old. They will be gone soon. You had opportunity to collect their memories and yet you are gravely missing a chance. Cheers.

    • @lalwanimoti
      @lalwanimoti  7 років тому +1

      k44fir You have not replied to my question. By this time you should have realised that my subject is Sachin Dev Burman. What I am doing is spending my time, effort and money to bring out what happened those days only about Burman Dada. I am not interested to know about 'Satte Pe Satta' or anything done bo other music directors. Why don't you do research on music director of your choice.
      Incidentally, during my research, some of my subjects have narrated about other music directors which I have edited out. That does not mean that I have anything against them. My subject is SD Burman, not Salil Chowdhury, S-J, Hemant Kumar, or anyone else. Let that be the hard work of those who love other music directors. I hope you understand now.
      Last, but not the least. You are a music lover, and would know the books that have come out on music in India. They contain so many errors and mistakes and faslehood. I am doing a service to our younger generation in bringing out the truth on SD Burman. You are right. These people are alive. Let others do what I have done in case of Burman Dada.
