    I found myself interested in anthropology and your videos are explained in a very simple way and very useful for a beginner wishing to comprehend something about anthro. You did a very nice job, I do really appreciate it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I've just ordered the book so I can properly follow along.

    I'm only 14 and about to enter high school as a freshman after this Summer. Although I'm young I like to look at different fields of work and after completely watching Nanny Diaries I became interested in Cultural Anthropology. I have looked into it for a about a month now and finding more about this field has interested me in more ways than one compared to other fields I've looked into. I enjoy Cultural Anthropology and am so fascinated by it I plan to actually take this on as a college major when the time comes. I tried looking for free online classes on Cultural Anthropology but I couldn't find any until I came to UA-cam. I just wanted to let you know that I plan on watching and taking notes on all your lectures over the summer so I know more about the field I want to do in 4 years so I don't walk in blind. I wanted to thank you in a way because you have helped me set my career choice in life. In all I would like to know if you have any recommendations of textbooks and/or books I could read to help expand my knowledge. I'm very good in English class and read so much it probably isn't good, so don't worry about how hard it may be to read. As I said I'm very interested in this field that I want to study as much as I can. Thank you and I'm so sorry to basically write a book😂.

      First of all, I would like to say that I think it is great that you are interested in Cultural Anthropology and at such a young age. Good for you in being proactive about what you want to do in life. It appears you have give considerable thought to this. Finding a career you are passionate about is the key. Then it is really not work, but doing something you enjoy to do.As for recommended reading material, I recommend three books. Two are by the same author: Jared Diamond. The first book is Guns, Germs, and Steel. This book deals with factors that affect our modern view of cultures of the world. The second book is Collapse. It deals with how cultural traits are mostly adaptive in the survival sense, but sometimes cultures engage in maladaptive traits without realizing the consequences. The third book I would read is 1984 by George Orwell (which you may have already read). Culture is powerful because it exists in the background. We engage in common behavior because it brings us comfort. Most of the time this is good, but sometimes it can be manipulated intentionally or on accident.Keep up the good work! I am glad you found my lecture videos interesting!

    Do Anthropologists study Technology?

    • @Chad80799
      @Chad80799  Рік тому +1

      Yes, examples might be: a cultural anthropologist who studies how a culture views technology, an archaeologist might study a technological advance in a past society, a linguist may study how language is influenced by technology, or a physical anthropologist might study how technology affects the physical body. Hope that helps!

      All subdisciplines of Anthropology could potentially contribute to the study those subjects, but cultural anthropologists arguably contribute the most. Does that help?

    The basic concepts in Anthropology r required to be made popular.The sources available r important,but requires regular inclusions with the increasing topics of research.

    if cultural relativisem means seeing cultures relatively.....so is it right to say cultures may be compered?i read it from my teachers material....
    and also i got so many contradictory ideas on my reading material so what can i do?

    • @Chad80799
      @Chad80799  7 років тому +1

      Under cultural relativism, you would want to examine a behavior within the context of that culture. In other words, you would not compare it to your own or any other culture.

    • @hiwkas9302
      @hiwkas9302 7 років тому +1

      ya u are right but on my reading material it says cultural relativism does not mean
      1,that anything goes or judjment is imposssible
      2,anything culture belives is true
      3,every thing is relative..including cultural relativism
      4,cultures cant be compered
      i dont understand this phrases can you help me understand please?
      and thank you for your quick reply

    • @Chad80799
      @Chad80799  7 років тому +1

      You should watch my Chapter 2 lecture for more on cultural relativism. Most people including anthropologists put human rights over cultural relativism. Also, yes, cultural relativism does not mean that the idea or behavior is correct or true but rather the idea is how does that behavior function within that culture. It may be odd to the observer, but when examined within the context of that culture it might make more sense. Cultural anthropologist compare cultures all the time. We look at differences and similarities all the time. Cultural relativism is most useful when examining one culture and in particular, one behavior, idea, trait, etc.
