A unique way to celebrate monthly birthdays...
So, my sister ( @poojas.bakebyheart on Instagram) has this cool way of celebrating birthdays.
When Riaan was born, we celebrated each of his monthly birthdays with various themes, ranging from back-to-school for the month of Teacher's Day to the Ashadhi Ekadashi theme in July.
This time, as this lovely couple was blessed with another son - Agastya, my sister was sure she wanted to do something different - something that would add value to the guests' lives through his monthly birthday celebrations.
So, she has already put together a list of 12 themes that we will celebrate for his monthly birthdays throughout 2024.
On February 1st, we chose to honor the life of Swami Vivekananda-an inspiring spiritual leader & reformer who contributed significantly to our country, even though many of us are not familiar with the depth of his accomplishments.
Did you know? Swami Vivekananda's important speech in Chicago on September 11, 1893, is celebrated as Universal Brotherhood Day worldwide every year.
When he began by saying "Sisters and Brothers of America," everyone got really excited and gave him a standing ovation for two whole minutes. In his speech, he talked about being kind to all religions and living together peacefully.
We discussed this and many other incidents that Swami Vivekananda should be remembered for.
Since he was from Bengal, we all dressed up in Bengali attire, sang Bengali songs on karaoke, enjoyed delicious rasgullas, and had a lovely time together!
