Andre, You should look into an electric blanket. It would probably use a lot less power than the space heater. A lot of truck drivers use them so the don't have to idle their truck overnight.
Yeah that space heater likely uses up to 1500 watts so that battery would last less than two hours. We've used a full sized electric blanket on it's lowest power with a down quilt on top and have never been cold. A 12 volt blanket would be most efficient in terms of power usage but I've only found ones big enough for a single person.
A Diesel heater would get the job done with minimal amount of power
You can also buy ceramic-plate and silicone oil-filled space heaters which are much more efficient on a thermal emissions basis and use less than 200 watts (about 10 hours on your system). That 200 watts is a LOT of thermal energy and even reducing it to 50 watts (40 hours) can keep your warm on nights even down to 14 F (-10 C).
Modern ceramic and thermal-fluid-filled space heaters are FAAAAAAR more efficient than the old style ones with metal coils or plates!
V
@@StarGateSG7 I don't see how this could be, as any efficiency losses would be lost as heat, which is the sole purpose of a heater.
@@LeesChannel The ceramics-based heaters are DIRECTIONAL which means when pointed at yourself, it's only YOU being heated and not your overall surroundings. When you want to stay warm, sometimes it's alright if YOU and only YOU are the things being warmed up!
You can get ceramic heaters that have a wide output "cone" or a higher wattage rating BUT depending upon the ruggedness of your tent or camper, maybe it's all right to let those get cold and NOT YOU!
It also depends upon the TYPE of ceramic or thermal-fluid-based heater as to whether or not its JUST YOU or also your surroundings being heated-up.
200 watts is a LOT of radiant energy and if the convection air currents flowing out of the heating device is directional enough, you could stay nice and toasty at say 20 C (68F) while keeping the rest of your tent or camper at say 10 C (50F) so the pipes or water jugs don't freeze!
With some nice plush blankets kept on you, that 20 C heated personal space is MORE THAN ENOUGH to keep you comfortable even in -40C (-40F) deep winter temperatures!
Modern heating technology really has come a long way in the last 10 years, so why not spend the extra $50 USD and get a space heater system that uses MUCH LESS POWER but still keeps you warm!
V
In these trying times this is the buddy comedy we all need.
We need more Andre and David adventures.
Like water and oil.
A few suggestions you might consider. Why not charge both the main and cabin batteries from the solar panels using a dual battery solar controller. I find multiple down comforters work better than a heater. I agree with the comments on propane over electric cooking, I use a full size 20 lb tank powering a two 30,000 BTU burner camping stove. On a cold morning I use one burner for cooking the other like a campfire for warmth, works great. As usual, fun video, keep up the great work.
I cook, heat, cool, and power my generator on propane. Simple and no wiring required. Also have solar for backup.
My god Andre, 72F is warm. You’re camping! You could go down to 64F with minimal gear you are not in a tent. You could have heated blanket, it could save energy. And running the heater just before you go to sleep. You probably don’t need it during night. Cheers from cold Quebec Canada!
This is super cool I love what you did with your Russian van. You were so happy when you bought it I hope everything works out well for you Andre.
Love this series. Super fun as always . Thanks guys
Can't like this video enough. Good fun. Love seeing life with these vehicles, the Buhanka is awesome.
Love this video. In Europe, more and more campers are fitted with a similar solution - there are also plenty of YT resources on it. I also thought about putting a similar installation to my 1500 (with the solar panels on the bakflip) , it did not happen yet ... but at some point it'll come 🙂
Awesome video! Love your work guys. Thank you so much. This is a real reality show. No BS entertainment.
Awesome video guys !!
Looks like a fun trip.
Great video guys I would suggest avoiding those high watt appliances and get a Coleman portable stove or grill. Use the power for lights and heated blankets electronics and camera equipment.
I believe the point of this video was to see if they could completely replace their propane use. Obviously if they cooked with propane they would use almost no electricity. This seemed like a limit test of the power pack to see how far it could go.
Loved this video guys and really liked the equipment, definitely brainstorming some ideas for camp this year
Happy to see you enjoyed my home state! hope you'll be back soon!!!
Awesome to see you guys in my neck of the woods, hope you enjoyed AZ!
Basic Coleman Gas stove is anywhere from $50 to $100 and a buddy heater with propane is another $100 to maybe $150. Way more dependable And significantly more inexpensive than the $3,000 plus that you have in that rig. The battery bank and solar is a nice idea, but it's a luxury at this point.
We canoe camp and have a teardrop camper. I'm a firm believer in propane everything, even my lighting. It's nice and light and easy to transport in a small boat.
I use a Jumpstart pack to recharge our phones, otherwise, no electricity is needed
Pretty cool trail right out our back door in Fortuna. We do it with our UTV's though but great seeing you guys here.
One of your best videos!
I have a rather expensive portable lithium ion generator in my 2019 4Runner TRD OR build. TBH I wish I had thought of it before paying so much for a dual battery plus inverter setup lol. Mine has portable solar charging option, plus I can charge it while my vehicle is running. It has totally transformed my night/meal time experience 110% (especially where I don't sleep long), so now I absolutely never worry about power levels, at night time, anymore! I have my rig turned off more, also saving gas
It runs my fans, my heated blanket and other USB needs, when not running my 4Runner and I can make coffee, food etc. They are expensive and you get what you pay for, but they are soooo worth the money!
I originally bought it to be a power supply for my laptop, at night, but it does soooo much more lol
David is an absolute keeper really like his contribution to the channel!😎
I can appreciate the advertising that you guys do for certain products on this show, but really, there are much better options available to do exactly what you just did at a fraction of the costs. I have 460w of panels on my roof with a homemade solar generator using a 200ah battery, 30a charger controller, and a pure sine invertor. Everything is expandable so I can add more panels as roof space allows and more battery as my needs require. With everything I just mentioned, I'm into it for less than $1300. Its not as pretty as the Zendure, but 100% functional. I also have a smaller Bluetti EB70S that gets used for the pellet stove in my home as UPS or when Overlanding in my Samurai. It runs an electric blanket and lights in my cot-tent.
That’s a very dangerous smuggling corridor, I’m glad you guys didn’t have any issues 👍
Fun and excellent video!
HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE 👏👏👏....HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY✌️
Heater looks like a costco special. :) Got the same one. Nice video hope you guys had fun. For grill though I prefer the cabelas quiet blind heater which can serve as dual purpose. (Does require the small propane bottles)
videos like this and cheap challenge are the best!
Yall would do better with a single burner induction cook top then that heat element skillet. Just make sure you have a induction ready pan.
I love these camping videos! Lol, Frank was just going to clear the scene for rattlesnake’s for David, so nothing bad would happen behind the cactus.
Love the video Frank is the star.
I use a good old RV deep cycle battery in a mounted battery box, and one Renogy 100 watt panel, and it runs my Dometic fridge and all my lights for eternity!!!
Wow :D Nice UAZ !
You only had 1 hour of heat from an $1800 generator.
It's not a generator it's a battery the solar is considered the generator to recharge that battery
love your channel
No way David gets grumpy, David is awesome!
We camp off-grid often and I've found doing some things with propane helps a lot. Still rely on a generator about an hour a day to maintain the lead acids but looking for ways to reduce that with solar.
Yea I camp in the woods on the east coast. There's no way I'm dumping a thousand bucks on solar panels. I think the batteries are great. One hour running the generator and I'm back to 80% on my Ecoflow River Max which if I'm running my diesel heater will get me through the night with my fridge and camp lights. If it's just the fridge I can go all weekend on 80%. It's got a ways to go before the solar part of it's worth it.
Very true. I have solar and propane. Charge my phone and laptop with the solar, cook with propane. I have a 5 pound/1 gallon propane tank that lasts me about a month of cooking 3 meals a day. For heat I just use two cheap synthetic sleeping bags.
@@ObamaoZedong We use a diesel heater. I feel like it uses much more power than I expected. I get pretty low in the morning when I run it. One day I'll get a bigger battery.
You know, I saw the propane tank... Thought y'all would use that for heat and cooking, and the solar for other things.
David said it was not working , the plug in skillet was the back up.
I LOVE the can of WD-40 deoderant on the shelf, Andre. Keep on Camping Guys.
Why not use a camp stove for cooking?
I’ve had my eyes on the Anker 676. You guys should see if you can get one for testing!
Andre, maybe you know, maybe you don’t. But when off-grid, try to utilize DC power over AC. Running that inverter will easily cost you 20% of your power. They make DC powered string lights, electric blankets, etc.
Andrea, you’re like a kid in a candy store all these new toys
I like camping in the desert - but folks, the use of all those home appliances are not what I will ever need for boondocking as opposed to staying at a KOA RV park with full hook-ups. Bring a spare propane stove, if need be or build a fire, if it is allowed.
You guys brought a snow shovel to dig a loo? 😆
Excellent
I'm just glad the term generator wasn't used.
The Bohanka is cool. How about swapping a 2.3 ecoboost and 7 speed into it?😁
I love my Colman stove so much, I bought an adapter whip to run a full sized tank.
Could you tell me the name of the adapter? I've been looking to do this with my Coleman
I believe that it's made for Woods. Available at Canadian Tire.
@@davidryde6296 thank you!
No worries
Here's where the powerboost pro power on board would come in handy
Camera Ninja ALEX 🙏👏👏👏 and Frank .. ..😊
Frank may be able to sit, speak, and roll over. Heck, he's clearly man's best friend! But, God love him, he needs to learn boundaries.
Does the Zendure have the ability to charge from the vehicle's alternator?
Frank is precious.
It looks like you panels are overlapping. Shading significantly reduces solar panel effectiveness (easily by 80-90%). You’d likely get better performance by using only 2 solar strings, making sure they’re not shaded by your rack or the other panels.
I eat those all the time! Make for a quick, easy, and delicious dinner!!!
I love Andre. 🤟🏻
I'm interested in seeing how the power system on the Ram performs. What's the size of that system? 100 or 200 mAh?
Dunno. But the Ford SD having that 2.0 Kw is amazing
@@dajuggernaut2099 In the ram they added an aftermarket system with solar similar to the Bushka, not a factory system designed to power construction site tools like the Ford.
Buchanka rocks🤘
Andre- what brand of heater is that?
So funny.. David treats Andre like a kid. 😅😂
You guys need better cameras. I get it, using iPhone's, but let's work on focusing, it's driving me nuts lately with your videos. You guys got the budget for a better camera. Good stuff!
Hey, don't knock the Spam, haha! Slice it thin and fry it up crispy, put it on a toasted English muffin with cheese and egg and you've got a really tasty sandwich.
Would have been a lot more efficient and economical to use a diesel heater and propane stove for your heating and cooking needs. A smaller solar power station would suffice for your lighting needs and charging/running your electronics etc. You're not living out there in your vehicle for an extended amount of time so the whole "the sun is always out here" is a moot point. You would have electricity but no food to cook when it runs out and I don't think the TFL gang is going to be hunting any game animals either in the desert lol. David has probably done some hunting but the rest of you guys especially Tommy and Roman look like yuppies.
All the home appliances are fine for a stay at a KOA style RV park with full hook ups.
if you had a Diesel SUV, you could cook and heat with Diesel !......and a sleeping bag for lower temps......Diesel cooking is very fancy with ceran field diesel cooker.
Nobody would use that thing without the solar panels hooked up. A good test or review of this product would be to have the solar panels plugged into it when the sun was up which would definitely have shown it in a better light. imho of course.
I have a heater......It's the desert in February....it's going to get cold! Conserving power speech at dusk.
Good times... I would like to see how much power a portable fridge would draw off this system... since we are not roughing it anymore with the Bougie Buhanka... the West is Corupt and Weak... lol
Every time i hear they say Frank, i burst out laughing. 😂
At those prices it would be hard to justify for the majority of people.
Excellent thank you. I don't want to spend on electroical camping gear so we will stick with propane, ice and cooler boxes.
Sad to see it go.😢 but it's for David new project.
Here for frank
So why not led Christmas lights top efficient
Next time, try corned beef.
Fried spam is delicious!
Use gas for cooking. Always carry a small 2Kw generator if you are wasting power on electric appliances.
Next time put the Alfredo and water in the pan and pour the bag of noodles on top of it.
Andre, your powerboost F150 would have powered your heater all night long.
For the money you can do a lot better than that solar generator. 2 300 ah Lifepo batteries from Amazon under 2,000 dollars. 3 200 watt bifacial solar panels under 600 dollars from Amazon, Epever mmpi solar controller around 200 and a 2500 watt pure sine inverter around 200. You'd still have some cables to buy but still within that price range. You'd have way more power.
So long as the lithium batteries don't catch on fire.
@@brandonlesko3126what battery do you think the thing Andre has uses?😂😂
@@brandonlesko3126 LIFEPO4 batteries are WAY more stable than the Lithium ION in that battery pack he has. You can drill directly into the cells and they still won't catch fire. Not all Lithium batteries are the same.
The star of this video was easily...Frank
Shit I needa borrow that shovel right now
Propane for the win.....
What kind of dog is Frank yo!?
I like Frank!
I feel like you would get a lot more bang for your buck if you built a traditional solar system.
Of course it would weigh a lot more, and would require more effort and knowledge.
It's been years since I've done it, but I'm sure it would still be significantly cheaper to have a more powerful setup.
At least this is an American brand, not some low quality cheap chinese brand
if it were burning man there would be 1) a massive speaker in your face playing whatever kind of music you hate. 2) you're getting hit on by a foreigner who thinks 'no' is an invitation to negotiation 3) your lungs are covered in dust and you have a COVID cough. you also have COVID. 4) its 115F. in the shade. But sure, you guys are at Burning Man. ;)
Буханочка.
That's not actually that bad of a setup.
Black rifle coffee👍👍👍👍👍👍
Seems redundant. A Coleman gas stove, a second sleeping bag & and a few bottles does that better.
Commercial grade... Soviet. "That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works" - Marx.
Homie..
Diesel heater.
Not that impressed with battery. And yes an electric blanket prob more effecient.
Andre Alex sounds a little touchy about frank 🤔 I'm a dog owner that could be dangerous just saying 🤔 😉 😏 😜
Diesel Heater….
Your setup is cool but your camping friend is a bummer. At least the dog knows you're cooler than him.
Yall used too many electric appliances for camping
