Thank God MS hasn’t robbed Mark his voice just his legs (that’s why he is sitting). It’s his song and he sings it beautifully. Loved your face when he held that note that long.
Look at the longing on his face when he sings the lines "the deaf will hear" and "the lame will leap". He has gone partially deaf in one ear, and between MS and having to have a leg rebuilt after a crush injury has limited ability to walk. He never used to sit during a performance.
Mark Lowry wrote this song. I believe this song is the most powerful song ever written. The message just takes my breath. Mark sure has some big lungs and powerful voice. How long did he hold that note anyway? For me, Mark singing this song is the best. Because I know he believes every word in it and feels the message of it clean down in his soul. A lot of singers has sung this song, but not all of them believe and feel the message of this song. They just do not have the passion, other than just their passion for singing in general.
Michael.... from me to you heres a hug. Now on to the song. Mark Lowry cowrote this song. Theres always something wonderful when you hear him sing the words he wrote. Buddy Greene wrote the music. This is also one of my favourite songs.
maybe we should clear it up a bit Mark wrote the lyrics and Buddy Greene wrote the music .. then Michael recorded it..:) "Mary, Did You Know?" is a Christmas song addressing Mary, mother of Jesus, with lyrics written by Mark Lowry in 1984, and music written by Buddy Greene in 1991. It was originally recorded by Christian recording artist Michael English on his self-titled debut solo album in 1991.
I loved listening to Buddy Greene tell the story. "So I got call one day about midnight. 'Hey Buddy, I got some words. Could you come up with some music'?"
If u love Mark Lowry's music then u will dig his comedic stand-ups. Just a couple if ur interested are: - Momma had enough - All momma ever wanted was the last word. Good, clean comedy & there's a reason why I call him the Robin Williams of Gospel Comedy.
For the last few hours I've been watching the reactions to Mark and this group sing and I tear up every single time. Please do not be offended when I say I was watching you. And I see it touched you, in a way that you never imagined. God is think of you. God bless you.
Gosh Syd, your speech brought tears to my eyes and heart.. i would love to hear your story you will do.. Mark Lowry Is a Christian Comedian.. look up his "Last Word" Comedy.. "Mama always had to had the last word.. Mark was a ADHD Child.. and couldnt help himself.. he tells his life story in comedian form.. he also sings with the Bill Gaither Vocal band.. but he does his own versions of Christian songs like Weird Al Yankovik..lol he is very cute..
100% agree with you. Voctave is just pure gold. Of course, nobody sings it with the passion that Mark does. It's funny, but I never really thought about this song being a Christmas song, but I guess it is. We sing it all the time at my church. I love it. It speaks to my heart...More Voctave, please...thanks.
Mark Lowry filled in with the Stamps Quartet in 1975 singing back up with Elvis.. He is not only a very good vocalist, but also a very funny guy when he does his comedy routine..
Mark can hold a note longer than anyone I've ever heard; you'd never know he was sick. To me, Voctave is the "powerhouse" of A Capella groups when it comes to filling a room with sound. Thanks for another great reaction, and for venturing out into new groups and artists.
Can you imagine a duet between Kate Lott (high soprano) and Tim Faust (the bass from Home Free)? Also, as a foster mom, I can only imagine what you've gone through. I know that my kiddos will bear emotional and spiritual scars forever; I just do what I can to let them know that they are safe and loved while they are with me, and hope it plants a seed of healing in them. God bless you and I'll pray for your continued healing.
I saw Mark Lowrey sing this live in Charlotte NC when he was part of the Gaither Vocal Band. He, Guy Penrod. And David Phelps did the song and when they hit that note, the rafters shook and Dust came floating down. It was that powerful. Anytime you put voices like theirs together you have something special. Voctave also is something special! I think it's Amazing that they thought the song important enough to include Mark in the recording and the video!! Outstanding! Loved your reaction as well! Keep up the good stuff you are doing.
JESUS created each of us...and HE is waiting for each of us to SEEK HIS FACE. In my opinion, this hymn was sung PERFECTLY, by VOCTAVE. I know many of these singers, and can tell you, that they are BELIEVERS.........which makes the singing of this piece "Worshipping OUR GOD". Each one is a SKILLED musician!
Thank you for reacting to this beautiful song! I love to hear Mark sing it. Whether a person believes or not, should not prevent them from appreciating the beauty and talent of the music and I am glad you react to such a variety of music.
Mark Lowry is such an amazing man! He is a lover of the Lord and he is so funny! I just love his parodies. "Rest In The Arms' is another beautiful song he does! Oh yeah, I almost forgot...if you do like this song, CeeLo Green does a truly beautiful version of "Mary Did You Know"
The first time I heard this I was holding my newborn son, so this song touched my heart as a Mom and made Jesus even more real in my mind. Thank you for the well wishes and I pray the same for you. btw, I am glad you like Christmas carols.
Loved your reaction, thank you, Mark makes the song seem so real because he knows the Jesus the song is about, blessings to you and may you know the Peace that only Jesus can bring....loved the Pentatonix version as well, but Mark & Voctave are....just wow.
Hugs. Buddhist here. I don't hate Christmas carols either. I'm not a believer but I can still appreciate the love and passion that goes into a song like this and I can still appreciate the people that find comfort and a sense of rightness by believing.
I was trying to think on how to word my own reply, but you hit the tone perfectly. Thank you, Hello, it's MK your Neighbor. (And thank you for great content and humanity, DramaSydE!)
Michael, thank you for your cover of this song. May you know how much I enjoy your reaction vids on Home Free, PTX, and many more. May the true Spirit of Christmas the message in Mary Did You Know be what Christmas is for you. Because it is Christ's sacrifice that we are able to be redeemed and be brought perfect before a righteous God. Than you so much!
History of this song; "Mary, Did You Know?" is a Christmas song addressing Mary, mother of Jesus, with lyrics written by Mark Lowry in 1984, and originally Mark used the lyrics on Christmas cards. Later on he requested of several friends if someone could put music to his lyrics. The music was written by Buddy Greene in 1991. It was originally recorded by Christian recording artist Michael English on his self-titled debut solo album in 1991. At the time, English and Lowry were members of the Gaither Vocal Band, and Greene was touring with them. The song reached Number 6 on CCM Magazine's Adult Contemporary Chart. Lowry would record the song several times himself, most notably with the Gaither Vocal Band on their 1998 Christmas album, Still the Greatest Story Ever Told. Lowry also recoded it with 'Voctave' while sitting due to being stricken with MS. This was an incredible feat in itself and well worth viewiǹg, and reacting to! 👌
This is a gorgeous rendition. ❤ Mark did such a beautiful job matching the prowess and ethereal loveliness of Voctave here. 🥰😭🥰 I first met Mark Lowry as an adolescent (eons ago 😋) as a silly musical comedian, so to see him in this light makes me proud as a Mama Hen. Lol Thanks for reacting to this. ❤ Bless your sweet soul.
Voctave is phenomenal - they sing with such joy and it shows on their faces. Every one of their videos are pure GOLD! Check out Disney Princess Medley, Great Movie Medley, All is Well, The Impossible Dream, Disney Showstoppers, Over the Rainbow, and the list goes on and on.
I also love this song and it always moves me not just at Christmas but as a prayer before I sleep. Thank you so much for your words. They are really kind and you have a lovely smile!
I am an old woman. I have seen things in my life that I hope you never see. I have buried my babies, I have buried a grown daughter. I have been mentally, physically and sexually abused. BUT !Nothing has happened to me in my life that was wasted. Every single instance has led me to minister to people going through these same things. A long life is never an easy one but I still find my joy in this season. That bright hope.
One of my favorite Voctave songs is Someone Like You feat. Jody McBrayer who used to sing with the Christian group Avalon until he could no longer tour due to health issues. I’m still a Home Fry first lol but I appreciate good vocals and love many groups.
Late to the video and upload. Mark Lowry is awesome. If "Mary Did you Know" is beloved by you do yourself a favor and lookup David Phelps version if you haven't already.
There's so much that I want to say that I don't even know where to begin or really to words to say. So I'll just say thank you for sharing what you did with us and I'm looking forward to the vlog and learning more about everything. I love this song and this is a great version of it. It's special because Mark Lowry is singing with them and he co-wrote the song. To me PTX's version still hits home a bit more than this one but this is a close 2nd when it comes to the feels.
I was deeply moved by your comments. I usually avoid vlogs--most of them are way too long--but I'll watch for yours. I believe it will be well worth my time. Voctave is my 3rd-favorite a cappella group! Their "Great Movie Medley" is an excellent showcase for their talents, as individuals and as a group.
I truly enjoy your heartfelt commentary. So glad to see you getting acquainted with Voctave. Two of their other most impressive videos are This Is My Wish /Let There Be Peace on Earth and Oh Come, All Ye Faithful.
Very strong words my friend. It's a shame people are fast to judge others. We are suppose to be different. Rather it be religious beliefs, political party, language. It doesn't matter, we are suppose to be different and should be accepted and not ridiculed for that. It's not our place to judge, but to live with and or accept that it is OK to be different . I feel sorry for the ones who doesn't like that. Keep it up my friend!
This is my favorite version of this song...nothing better than sung by the one who wrote it, along with Voctave. May God grant you His peace this Christmas time
Brother I pray for your healing, that is what Christmas is all about! For unto us a child was born for unto to us a child was given! This baby was fully human and fully God!
One of my FAVE reactors!! Love your production quality...and you really know what your listeners want. We want your reaction but without interrupting the music. And this song by Mark and Voctave...WOW!!!
That was beautiful!!! Please list. To this same song y Seventh Ave Band formed by Chris Rupp after he left Home Free. The lead singer is Tristin Rupp (his sister... their brother is Adam Rupp the HF beatboxes). Their acapella group is amazing!

It's not a Christmas song....it's a REALITY song!
Mark sings the song he wrote better than anyone, bar none. It comes from deep within his soul.
Thank God MS hasn’t robbed Mark his voice just his legs (that’s why he is sitting). It’s his song and he sings it beautifully. Loved your face when he held that note that long.
And his sight I'm guessing. I've noticed that he uses "the blind will see" twice in this song..so that's probably personal.
Look at the longing on his face when he sings the lines "the deaf will hear" and "the lame will leap". He has gone partially deaf in one ear, and between MS and having to have a leg rebuilt after a crush injury has limited ability to walk. He never used to sit during a performance.
