I am not a great fan of hers, but for those of you who are telling her to toughen up and stop crying, try standing in the middle of 1000's of people screaming for you to lose, while doing something you love and respect. She knows that the French crowd can be merciless and in my opinion she demonstrated greatness toughness and class by continuing her match and this interview. All you keyboard warriors need to grow the fuck up and stop judging, until you wear the shoes of the person you're judging!
Ok, 17Sunny. What are you trying to say? What does the nerves of one player have to do with those of another? ...Or for that matter, any situation, day, tournament, weather and a myriad of other variables of any other match have to do with this particular incident? I saw the crowd pounce on Serena when she played against Justin Henin in the finals of 2003 (and Henin cheated and the crowd knew it), but her loss of focus and nerves cost her the match and she is one of the mentally strongest players to ever play the game. All of us, as humans (with very, very few exceptions), can loose our cool in any given situation, because we are human. So, the basis of my post aims at us not judging others, when we KNOW this to be true.
I understand where you are coming from but at the end of the day, the way the French crowd is, nothing is going to change whether it's right or wrong. The hard truth is that she has to accept it and suck it up. That's just the way it is.
I never said anything different and I know that crowd will not change and she shouldn't expect or want it to! I am just saying that sitting behind a keyboard judging someone in the middle of the arena who actually has enough courage to live and work for her dreams is disingenous and cowardly... Tennis is a tough sport. Most of the time you are your worst opponent and there are no team mates. So champions have to learn to work through their fears and hostile crowds in order to win. It's a process that takes time. Some achieve it. Some don't. But I'm not arrogant enough to think that I can judge any of them. The only thing that might draw a negative response from me, is when players behaviour is disrespectful to the sport.
Take your ego out of it and read my post. Serena lost her composure and subsequently the game during the finals of 2003 French Open, due to a hostile crowd and a player that obviously cheated. It happens to the best, because again, HUMANS are human. And Serena is my favorite player! And again, that situation has nothing to do with this one or this player. Everyone learns to deal with adversity in their own way, at their own time. I am simply stating that us keyboard warriors have little room to judge. What can't you grasp about that?!?
She showed she has integrity. That finger at the end of the match that said "no, no" is much more than the victory she could have achieved over Mladenović. Just a pure class act. Reminded me a bit of Novak at the US open 2015. when he overcame the universal hate. Congrats Muguruza, you earned a new fan today.
I used to consider Mugu a little spoiled brat but not after today. She matured under my very eyes and I feel so sorry for her. I never liked Mladenovic and her fake simplicity and modesty when she talks. "oh, look at me, I don't even have a coach, I am so simple..." but I despise her with all my heart today. In fact, she's the most arrogant and unfair player I have ever seen. It makes Masha look like a little matrioshka doll.
Yes. That question simply broke her emotions on that day. She knew what she had been through and she knew the *question* was coming but despite that you can't prepare for such things.
Wow, this was a great press conference. She made no excuses nor did she disparage the French crowd. There's nothing wrong with showing vulnerability and emotion. I found her to be genuine, level headed, and real here. Kudos.
This match was a disgrace: from Mladenovic jeering at Muguruza's unforced errors, to the disrespectful, hooligan-like attitude of the French crowd that tennis has fought so hard to distance itself from.
Such a disrespectful player (Mladenovic) and disrespectful crowd. I felt sorry for Garbiñe. Mladenovic didn´t win the match, Garbiñe lost it. This is not fair play Mrs. Mladenovic
this is not the first time that french crowd do this stupid things, Tennis crowds are imitading soccer crowds or what? this is not tennis about, its about enjoy the sport, not insulting the player who are very kind, humble and respectful to all...
I'm glad I didn't spend my money on RG this year, damn you Mladenovic and her supporters for making me hate RG, I hope Muguruza to recover from this and moves on, she probably having a hard time with the pressure, I remember watching her live at RG 2014 where she beat Serena and gave Sharapova a bagel in the first set and the french crowd were rooting more towards her, I hope she keeps the young gun in her while developing her mental strength
I'm French and I feel ashamed right now when I think of the way they threated this humble player. Forza Garbiñe! Just kidding, but brush it off... You are better than the sad haters.
Really good professionalism from the reporter asking the question after she came back from her break. I don't blame her for showing emotion but some reporters care more about getting a reaction than anything else. Nice to see someone who respects the player's feelings.
Garbine has a charming personality, and she played a strategically perfect game to beat Serena in 2016. She is still battling injury currently. Most of her problems are psychological, she needs to think and focus on the game not the crowd or her opponent. Buy some good ear plugs might be a good start.
How many ways does the press want to ask the same question, it's quite stupid, and obviously the loss is a big one considering she had so many points to defend. She lost 1760 point and will fall out of the top 10. Understandably, this is a tough loss.
Watching this, it's clear Serena's wins at Indian Wells 2001 (vs Clijsters) and Wimbledon 2015 (vs Watson) were two examples of the toughest mental strength demonstrated in the history of the game. Garbine is young and she will learn from this, but it's what you have to expect in France playing against a French player. As already established, they are the worst "supporters" you'll find.
Absolutely unrespectful, french crowd was absolutely a pain in the ass and I understand Muguruza, incredibly difficult to play in a situation like that. She is doing something with energy and passion and she's a good athlete, so she deserves respect. Now Muguruza won the Wimbledon title, something the whole french crowd and their descendant will never reach in their poor life forever. She seems a good and well spoken girl, she deserves respect in every match like everybody. It's important for her to keep it going and being tough if it will happens again, and destroy any french player in a future RG match, I'd really love to see that happening!
OMG, get a grip people. I was in the middle of a riot during a football match between Ireland and England in Dublin in the mid-'90s when English hooligans started rioting and going ballistic. My 10-year-old daughter was hit by a missile thrown by some crazed psychotic English lunatic. The way the French crown behaved in this match is extremely civilised by comparison. I've been to Roland Garros twice and I found the crowds to be passionate and engaged - it really does add to the excitement. Some may not like it, but the French are alive and full of emotion which they express freely (without throwing a single missile). They may have treated Muguruza poorly in this match but really, get some perspective people.
This was a rough press conference for Garbine. She seemed so hurt. But somehow that experience toughened her up for Wimbledon which she won today. I am sure Garbine is all smiles at today's press conference. 😀 😜
The French crowd is notoriously rude. I recall Serena crying in a press conference after dealing with the crowd & Justine Henin's cheating. Every other Grand Slam crowd will root hard for their own player but will be respectful to the other players but not France. You really have to focus hard block them out.
Esta mujer tiene todo mi respeto y todo mi apoyo. Es un alma valiente. Casualmente, también es la mujer más guapa del mundo mundial, no sólo eso sino que se le ve una persona dinámica y buena.
Well, she expected a bit more of respect. This is not a football match. This is a 1v1, and they have been yelling out like assholes the whole match. Unplayable for Muguruza..
The French crowd has always been tough. Ask Serena, ask Martina Hingis, ask Nadal.... she's a professional who just lost to the country's favourite. She and Pliskova has made bold statements in the past about how Serena was beatable, where is Pliskova's major win, is Garbine a one hitter quitter? When these prima donas hit the lime light it's easy to run off at the mouth but where is the toughness when things don't go your way. Sharapova, Serena, Hingis have all overcome these obstacles and won. I love her passion but man up, she'll have more chance just grow and correct her faults on the court.
I have seen a lot of matches and i noticed that French audience at RG very often crosses the line. They are very abusive , even when there is a match between non-French players. That's sad but sorry to say it's true. They simply lack good manners. Tennis is a play when you support both players. You can shout or scream when you are watching FED Cup matches when there are games between COUNTRIES. I would say in that case it is fine but not at WTA/ITF Tours nad Grand Slams when nationality is actually not that important.
Garbine showed us in Wimbledon how a great champion as she knows how to react. I think RG 2016 is far from the last for her, and RG 2015 will not be her only opportunity to win the trophy ! And i'm french...
MADRID should be the next fourth grand slam, Rolland garros has been downfalling due to this kind of attitudes and players and so on, I think Madrid would be more important and prestigious tournament in the years to come
unfair player mladenovic , very unrespectful , good for tennis she lost today with backzinsky , Rolland garros and french crowd are the worse, let's win Wimbledon this year Garbiñe
Gabrine! You are my revelation for the year 2017. Please remain as we know you. Please beautifully stay still decent. You remain as you are born because you are gorgeous. Stay close to us your fans. I thank Gabrine for the beautiful moments in all the competitions I have been with you and I think I enjoyed more than you at any of your matches. Hoping that I was correctly understood I tell you honestly your modest, beautiful, and stylish style I can not express myself more clearly. Honestly, Nelu. Ps1: I am from an eastern country and English language leaves much to be desired. Ps2 :: Your most beautiful picture is on my desktop
Garbiñe was very polite with her comments. French people are cellous about spanish players. They would done everything to damage Garbiñe. That's "saboire faire?"
I hate when a crowd boos and player because they are supporting their home player. Its so disrespectful. I remember Serena vs Heather Watson was disgusting and Wimbledon, and if it were anyone but Serena they would definitely have lost that match. I feel bad for Garbine, no player deserves that sort of treatment when they are trying their hardest and being respectful.
Why FRENCHIES? WHY? Learn to RESPECT your opponents. Learn from the Japanese. Come to Japan and we will teach you manners as a spectator and how to make visitors feel welcome.
Yes, the French crowd is different. Sure, Mladenovic is French and is playing some really good tennis and is a perennial top tenner/top 5 player potential but that French crowd can be excessively annoying and they were probably that way with Garbine.
La impresión era de que había jugado un partido contra una pobre desequilbrada avalada por el público. Espero que Garbiñe vuelva el 2024 a seguir cosechando éxitos.
This is why you have to completely block out the crowd and try to understand that it's rarely personal; they would have been just as vocal no matter who Mladenovic was playing. She should take her cue from Djokovic, who actually feeds off the negative energy of the crowd to play better.
Huh? Djokovic does not feed off of negative energy from the crowd AT ALL. He works incredibly hard to not let him affect him, and often lets the crowd know how pissed he is that his opponent is getting more support. He does not in any way relish being the less popular player. Personally, I think he would have been a lot better off if he had embraced being the villain, but it's way too late for that.
El público francés y Mladenovic no conocen el significado de deportividad, el fair play. Para futuros tenistas no tomen como ejemplo a Mladenovic fue vergonzoso lo que hizo. Esto es tenis no un partido de fútbol con sus hooligans
i knew muguruza was gonna have to deal with a french crowd who was out for blood i noticed during the mladenovic/rogers match. mugu needs to add 3 components to her game if she wants to win more slams in the future: mental toughness, problem solving and self reliance which she lacked throughout the match. bae you're 23 you still have time to improve and develop as a player (maybe make some changes to your team?) and emulate the heart of a champion like serena coz you would never see her breakdown in a press conference making excuses and most importantly don't let your opponents see you breaking down like this, any sign of weakness those hungry shark bitches on tour will jump all over it. pull yourself together and come back stronger next year. much love mugu 😁
Agreed with what you said, but she's still young, she will get more mentally strong with time. She was a much better player at Wimbledon. This experience will teach her a lot.
Time to grow up, Muguruza. Many players have come before you, and many will come after you who have dealt with the exact same crowd. You are not special, and you will not receive any special treatment just because you were fortunate to win the title once. You have to face the French crowd just like all of the other competitors on the tour, so stop crying and GROW UP - this is the big leagues sweetheart.
the ones that should grow up is the crowd whose ego is so smitten down by not seen a french player win this tournament is such a long time, plain & simple
Like she said here we're here in the goods and the bads... Now Garbi is on the top of the ranking meanwhile Mladenovic is on her 6th consecutive loss. Karma.
I love you, Garbine! Also, Mladenovic is pretty rad, too. I think she's [Mladenovic] getting a lot of crap because of the French crowd. And, boy, oh boy, they turned on their champion [Muguruza], who they rooted for hard against Serena. That's shocking for a player... and a person, I am sure.
Garbine needs to get a tougher skin. You wanna know how you can give two middle fingers to the crowd? By WINNING! Serena has been doing this for years, giving the White Establishment the middle fingers. Garbine needs to fight on and forget about what others have to say and do things on her own term. She's got the goods to win more Slams.
She will get thicker skin, this experience will toughen her. I think she is just more on the naive side, pretty young lady and more friendly and a good person thinking that the crowd will be always split 50/50. It is clear she is not used to needing to fight for it, you know. So I think that this experience will toughen her mentally to give the middle finger in the future and focus on her game. That is how greats are born. With time she will, every tennis player has their own weaknesses to improve, obviously that's one of hers.
Serena is a great champion for sure, but in 2016 French Open final Serena was deservedly defeated by Muguruza in two sets, and in 2014 French Open Muguruza crushed Serena with a ridiculous ease win , a double 6x2.
French crowd: Go back to Venecuela! - But K. Mladenovic is not from France. (Don't go back to Serbia) French commentators on the video: These in stance are not real French, they are Arabic, Barbaric, etc... But what would have French sport looked like if it was played just by "real French". How stupid is this whole situation.
Did anyone watch the Mladenovic vs Seigmund match in Stuttgart? They we're ten times worse than the french in this match, booing Kristina after every point, screaming that the ball was out as play was still happening, yelling at her and the umpire as she called her down to check a mark, the umpire told the crowd to calm down a minimum of 20 and yet she still thanked them and no one talked about it. I understand that this was a very important match for Garbine but a hometown crowd with a french player at a GRAND SLAM? Of course they're gonna go crazy, but they all clapped for her when the match was over. I'm not saying that they were perfect, Muguruza has every right to be upset and have her own opinions about the match but, it's sport... People who are saying that a soccer atmosphere doesn't belong in tennis haven't watched Fed/Davis Cup or the Australian Open when an Aussie plays. I'm sure if this was in Spain she wouldn't of had a problem with it that's all i'm saying....
Well, she won a GS a few weeks later and she is still a top player, while Mladenovic is lost since forverer, and that 25 languages comment really turned Mladenovic into a laughing stock.
Quite amused about the comments criticizing the french crowds booing or supporting their player. it HAPPENS in most of tournaments. I've seen much more tense and chauvinistic ambiance in Davis Cup, french or spanish tournaments..... So, all these tears are just "sore loser" explanations or a lack of cold nerves. I can understand her frustration but playing in hard conditions make you a great champion.
A complete disrespect of the public towards Garbiñe, I understand the emotion that must feel to see his tennis player play and I understand that they support it, but that is not the way. They were too rude on many occasions. It was different.

Agree. If Garbine isn't tough enough then neither is Serena and Hingis who have both been brought to tears by the disrespectful French crowd.
A class act. Emotion is understandable.. Hang in there Garbiñe!
Cerca Trova thank you for your empathy towards Gabie
Cerca Trova I hope she beat mladenovic one day and get her revenge💪🏻
They even forgot about when the French booed Serena when Justine cheated, or even the Aussies and how much they worship Federer.
You're saying this everywhere 17sunnyhour what are you referencing to?
Now she's world number one with a new gs title lol
She showed she has integrity. That finger at the end of the match that said "no, no" is much more than the victory she could have achieved over Mladenović. Just a pure class act. Awful behaviour from the crowd during the whole match. This shouldn't happen in a GS to ANY player.
Garbine Muguruza is awesome, she will definitely win many more slams in the future.
Allan Ford indeed
Didn't aged well
I can tell that Garbi tried very hard not to cry right from the moment she sat down. :'(
Yes. That question simply broke her emotions on that day. She knew what she had been through and she knew the *question* was coming but despite that you can't prepare for such things.
THE FRENCH CROWD WAS A DISGRACE!!!
robert mihai i am from France and i 100% agree with you
Wow, this was a great press conference. She made no excuses nor did she disparage the French crowd. There's nothing wrong with showing vulnerability and emotion. I found her to be genuine, level headed, and real here. Kudos.
French crowd is something special. Not in a good way tho. They are the worst.
So damn true. But in a way this bad experience for Garbine toughened her up for Wimbkedin which she won today.
chriszuu so you think there good

chriszuu i am french and i 100% agree with you.
This match was a disgrace: from Mladenovic jeering at Muguruza's unforced errors, to the disrespectful, hooligan-like attitude of the French crowd that tennis has fought so hard to distance itself from.
French, the worst tennis crowd ever!! Disrespecting a champion... what a shame!
Such a disrespectful player (Mladenovic) and disrespectful crowd. I felt sorry for Garbiñe. Mladenovic didn´t win the match, Garbiñe lost it. This is not fair play Mrs. Mladenovic
Thank you Irina Aldea for posting all of these press conferences.
Garbine keep your head up! You are a champion! Best wishes!
this is not the first time that french crowd do this stupid things, Tennis crowds are imitading soccer crowds or what? this is not tennis about, its about enjoy the sport, not insulting the player who are very kind, humble and respectful to all...
Alan Rocha Espinoza not 1st time.
Mladenovic is such a disrespectful player it's unbelievable. She has no class and should be ashamed of herself.

With earplugs she wouldn't be able to hear the chair umpire xD imagine that. Otherwise it's a good idea
and now today on 15th july 2017 she wins WIMBLEDON
champions keep fighting
I'm a big fan of Muguruza and I can see how mentally tough you have to be to be your constant best in such a solo sport. Come on Muguruza!
Do not put too much pressure on yourself Muguruza. You are an amazing player.
How many ways does the press want to ask the same question, it's quite stupid, and obviously the loss is a big one considering she had so many points to defend. She lost 1760 point and will fall out of the top 10. Understandably, this is a tough loss.
Drink it off.. Good luck in Wimbledon..
Shanmuga Sundaram she had good luck lol
Watching this, it's clear Serena's wins at Indian Wells 2001 (vs Clijsters) and Wimbledon 2015 (vs Watson) were two examples of the toughest mental strength demonstrated in the history of the game. Garbine is young and she will learn from this, but it's what you have to expect in France playing against a French player. As already established, they are the worst "supporters" you'll find.
fax fax And yet Maria is the one who got caught after years of stringent testing 😂 #oops
Well, Serena folded against the French crowd too in 2012 R1 vs Razzano. :)
No, she folded because she played awful that day after losing a challenge in the tie-break. The crowd were irrelevant.
Garbiñe gave that crowd the perfect FU salute with her Wimbledon trophy a few weeks later.
Absolutely unrespectful, french crowd was absolutely a pain in the ass and I understand Muguruza, incredibly difficult to play in a situation like that. And now in 2020 Garbiine is n the Australian Open final! Bravo Spanish star. Much love and good luck for the final xx
I thought Mladenovic was bang out of order
Serena is one of most annoying players on the court, probably most annoying actually
Tomas Kuznecovas nah😕
She's overrated
Well done Timea, Mladenovici deserves big time!

Vamos Garbine
surprised the "french" did not go with the "injury" scenarios, like she did during other matches this year.
I didn't mind Mladenovic cheering the crowd up, but the crowd cheering after Muguruza's errors was plain disgraceful, period.
All tennis players but French should boycott Roland Garros next season !!
Basel Waar the French crowd sucks ass
Bella
Shame on French crowd! it is not Fair-play ..
Do French people dislike her or they were simply rooting for their own...a French player?
and a few moths later won wimbledon
Felt so sorry for her, the crowd were appalling.
Born in Venezuela and raised in Spain she speaks perfect English. Impressive
El público francés y Mladenovic no conocen el significado de deportividad, el fair play.
Para futuros tenistas no tomen como ejemplo a Mladenovic fue vergonzoso lo que hizo.
Esto es tenis no un partido de fútbol con sus hooligans
did anyone else notice how someone dropped a box of tissues on the table at 3:32....
i knew muguruza was gonna have to deal with a french crowd who was out for blood i noticed during the mladenovic/rogers match. mugu needs to add 3 components to her game if she wants to win more slams in the future: mental toughness, problem solving and self reliance which she lacked throughout the match. bae you're 23 you still have time to improve and develop as a player (maybe make some changes to your team?) and emulate the heart of a champion like serena coz you would never see her breakdown in a press conference making excuses and most importantly don't let your opponents see you breaking down like this, any sign of weakness those hungry shark bitches on tour will jump all over it. pull yourself together and come back stronger next year. much love mugu 😁
Agreed with what you said, but she's still young, she will get more mentally strong with time. She was a much better player at Wimbledon. This experience will teach her a lot.
Hope Mladenovic sees this, she should feel guilty. Feel so sorry for her.
You are a douchebag.
Show some respect to her.
the ones that should grow up is the crowd whose ego is so smitten down by not seen a french player win this tournament is such a long time, plain & simple
Like she said here we're here in the goods and the bads... Now Garbi is on the top of the ranking meanwhile Mladenovic is on her 6th consecutive loss. Karma.
The same happened at wimbledon 2015 serena vs watson but serena shut them up
I love you, Garbine!
Feel how Serena and Venus felt all the years.Halep has some rude fans too.The British did the same to Serena at Wimbledon.
3:29 LOL!!!
Well...I think RG 2017 is far from the last for her, and RG 2016 will not be her only opportunity to win the trophy...Sorry for the mistake..
Some of these women are too emotional
Garbine needs to get a tougher skin. You wanna know how you can give two middle fingers to the crowd? By WINNING! Serena has been doing this for years, giving the White Establishment the middle fingers. Garbine needs to fight on and forget about what others have to say and do things on her own term. She's got the goods to win more Slams.
jamariquoi2 Yeah but muguruza ist no Serena but you are right. This was a painful experience for her but she will Comeback stronger
the french desereved the middle finger, no matter if winning or not :).
Same thing with konta they gonna learn
Serena is a great champion for sure, but in 2016 French Open final Serena was deservedly defeated by Muguruza in two sets, and in 2014 French Open Muguruza crushed Serena with a ridiculous ease win , a double 6x2.
French crowd: Go back to Venecuela! - But K. Mladenovic is not from France. (Don't go back to Serbia)
French commentators on the video: These in stance are not real French, they are Arabic, Barbaric, etc... But what would have French sport looked like if it was played just by "real French". How stupid is this whole situation.
who's here after Osaka's announcement? i sympathize so much with Gabrine, but Osaka is such a drama queen
She did cry !! You wouldn't lose if you didn't do stupid errors
I like French people, so it’s hard to believe that the crowd, who can afford the tickets to matches like this, can be so impolite.
I didn't realise Spanish Royalty played tennis. Oh... she isn't? Surely she is a princess of somewhere?
she such a pretty girl!! Garbine,,, Will you marry me?? win Wimbledon for me dear....
Tennis fans are suppose to be the most polite fans comparing to baseball and basketball
I'm sure if this was in Spain she wouldn't of had a problem with it that's all i'm saying....
why a grand slam in Paris? have they ever been good in tennis ?
Once again they bully Her. Absolutely disgusting
same as what they did to Martina Hinggis when she did the underserve... ahahaha
I love French people, but players are only human. I wish for no negative cheering.
Как драматично,её как буд-то подстрелили!)
