Thanks for sharing, great job! However, that's a lota $$$$ for an item that needs much adaptation and finessing.

I nearly cried for a week Stephen parting with that kind of money for a bit of steelwork....
It did save me a bit of effort and designing though and I must admit, steel prices have gone through the roof of late.
The cost I could perhaps let them get away with considering research, fabrication, supply and demand but the packaging and finishing was "shoddy" for the money.
I'm having a kidney removed for the ladder next.....we'll see how that goes.

Amen to that my friend, you did an amazing job 😆
Good luck with the kidney removal.

Probably more work involved than just "buy and fit" which is perhaps what most people want.
I suppose because of all the wheel variations and preferences of coatings "kit form" is perhaps the best option.

      Thank you for watching Ian.
Its not too scary to have a go. There's nothing to really go drastically wrong. Go for it!.. it'll be a great confidence booster.

I cant believe the price you payed for them.. but its all about R&D and quality of the product used.

I've been meaning to make my own from the start Christina but realised it would have been a lengthy process and I needed to "get on" and fed up with carrying the spare in the garage wasting space.
Steel is now very expensive to buy but I do think all the carriers available could be better value.

I enjoyed this video, tempted to gave a go at fitting one now. Although I'm weighing out my options. Got a question for you man.. I have a 2020 Citroen Relay 35 LWB the standard wheels on the Van now are 15".. so if I were to put on 4 x 16" alloys with standard tyres & also bought a 16" spare steel wheel, would the 16" spare wheel still be able to fit securely back up in to the underlying carrier underneath.?

Glad you enjoyed the video and it gave you ideas.
The underslung carrier wasn't specific to a set wheel size and would probably accept differences within reason but... What a dirty, shitty location that's likely to corrode and sieze, not ideal to keep a check on the state of your spare either.
Save up and go for the wheel carrier... Looks cooler too.

Absolutely.. They do look cool on & yes the underslung location is not great, can imagine having to wrestle with that in the pouring rain. What you did with those modifications & prep work is brilliant, although I would like to think that the company that manufacture these little units would have all that taken care of already.. Especially the hanging bolts you had welded on, it makes total sense to me. They could do that per request to wheel spec perhaps. Without the hanging bolts to use would be an awkward / heavy struggle.
      Great job man 👍

Thank you again for your kind comments.
It was quite a difficult decision for me to purchase the carrier as I could have probably made one for a fraction of the cost but wasn't prepared to spend the time doing so.
I wanted an unpainted unit and was expecting a hefty discount having not realised it is supplied in an unfinished state already.
For the price I would have expected a powder coated unit and even then perhaps £299 being a favourable price but unfinished and roughly prepared I think no more than £250 would be more reasonable.
      Still..... saved me the bother.
      Best wishes,
      Paul

@@vanlifemyway7806 In total agreement with you there Paul, on price. As there seems to be a fair amount of work to put in to it to get it right before bolting it on. Thank you for taking the time to show us. I've been checking out the rest of your videos on the rest of the build, looking brilliant man 👍

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that.
I'm hoping to build another similar van on a tight budget. I have some ideas that I think will be effective for anyone on a budget with limited tools and skillset.
I do like many people's build in T&G but have some alternative ideas.
