Hey Z, a little bit more facts for you about São Bernardo... First, the logo on the FM24 is old, the new one has an all black background. It is also the joint-team of Brazil's president (Lula), who was born there and also supports Corinthians. Talking about him, his political party's number is 13, and is a retired number on the team. DONT use it in any player to make it more realistic. It is not the only team from São Paulo in Serie C, there is also Ferroviária (with a great women's team), but they are in the Paulistão A2 (second state division). In real life, they almost got promoted this year (which you are playing), i recomend you to take a look in 2024 Serie C. Ferroviária was one of the promoted teams. Also, you said that the ABC is the largest portion in São Paulo without great teams... well, it is true nowadays, but in São Bernardo's (B) foundation in 2004, Santo André (A) has won the Copa do Brasil, and São Caetano (C) was Libertadores runners up against Boca Juniors. Next year, Santo André will play the Paulistão A2 and São Caetano the Paulistão A4 (forth of five divisions). About Paulistão format... it is crazy. In the group phase there are 4 groups of 4, but you compete against all the teams outside your group (12 games in total). The two first teams in each group face themselves in the quarterfinal (one game in the home stadium of the team with the best campaign), then the same in the semifinal, but the final there are two games. The combined table is necessary for the two relegation spots and deciding the home team in the knockout stage. The Serie C format is also different... a league phase with 19 games, then the top 8 goes to a group format (2 groups of 4), the 2 first teams in each group get promoted, and the first team of each group face each other to decide the champion (it was Volta Redonda this year).
Lets just make it more confusing. I do kind of like how you play the other 12 teams outside your group. That means everyone in your group plays the same 12 teams. Hopefully that will get you a decent idea how you stack up.
As a brazilian, let me try to explain better how the league here works so that all of you can understand. First of all, we have the 3 top leagues in brazil that are playable in fm and work mostly the same way the majority of the leagues in the world do. The point is that we have the Serie D, wich is our fourth and last division (this has been generating discussions in brazil for a long time about whether it would be better creating a fifth division or not). But the point is how teams get into this last tier, and that's how we end up in the state championships. See, each state has its own championships and each state has a number of places that are given to the best performing teams of each state championship that aren't in the first three divisions. Of course there are the places reservated for the clubs that have been relegated from serie C, but that's how it works. Then, since most of the teams in this division have a limited budget, the league is split into regional groups to make logistics easier, with the best teams making into a knockout system and the 4 semifinalists getting the promotion. Also, there are other divisions inside the state championships that can be considered other tiers in brasilian football, even though some smaller and poorer states don't have a second tier meanwhile São Paulo has 4 divisions if i'm not mistaken. A sad part is that most of the teams in these lower leagues, alongside the teams in the top state divisions that do not make into the Serie D have a calendar problem (that is the main reason of the discussion of a fifth tier) because they end up without a national competition for the rest of the year, and that is why most of the players or managers in this level only get contracts for some months or even some bizarre cases happen, like the "manager loan" case that happened here recently, in wich a club loaned out their manager to another club that had a national competition. Well, hope i got you to understand how the football pyramid works in my country and, if you're reading until now, thanks a lot. Cheers from belo horizonte❤️
love the comment! but just a correction, the Campeonato Paulista now has a 5th division, the Paulista Série B, which is only for Sub-23 teams. Paulista de Jundiaí actually won it this year and will play in the Paulista A4!
If you ever try the Brazilian system in a new save, get a mod that adds the entire Brazilian system with all state championships and try a club in the lowest Paulista division, which is the fifth. It's super hard. Basically you only have one spot for new São Paulo teams in the Serie D, the fourth national division, and you get it by winning the Copa Paulista, which irl you only qualify for if you reach the third Paulista division. Also, if you're not in Série D, you only play the state championship, which runs for 3 to 4 months. That's the biggest issue clubs face irl.And if you do get to Série D, the fourth national division, you have to get automatic promotion to Série C. Otherwise, you're out. That's 64 teams in Série D and only 4 get promoted, the other 60 are disqualified and can only play again next year if they do qualify via state competitions, so for São Paulo, that means you only qualify again if you win the COpa Paulista again, a competition you cannot participate if you're in the national divisions. Tough stuff
For São Bernardo... 12 to 16 matches in São Paulo state championship, in Serie C there are 19 games in the first phase plus 6 games in second phase plus a final. There is also Copa do Brasil, which is a cup. I think that the main problem is the distance certain teams have to travel in such a small amount of time. I think that Fortaleza has more than 70 games this year, and each away game in Brasileirão they have to cross the country, it is really absurd.
The worst calendar ever in FM, if you play all the competitions and win all you play almost 80 games per season, you don't have time to training anybody.
It get's worst. If he choose the likes of Botafogo-PB, Ferroviário-CE (My dad's team, by the way), Floresta, Sampaio Correa, he can play in the Copa do Nordeste (Northeast Cup) - or if he gets a team like Remo, by exemple he can play in the Copa Verde (North + Espirito Santo cup). Nor only state and national, some have regional season to coordinate. I support Fortaleza. Joint with Bahia, we can be, every season, by sinister margins, the teams who play most matches in the world. Because we are in a good position to strike in the Conmebol ground. Fortaleza got defeated in the Sudamericana final last year, Bahia are in a good case for a solid Libertadores run in the future, since they are the City Group team in Brazil. We can reach the 80 game per season margin with ease.
@@Carrenho997 Oh, how I want to just cross the country. Fortaleza has to cross europe (by distance) every other weekend to play games. If we want to play Conmebol football, every travel is like we going from Lisbon to Saint Petersburg.
Funny lil thing is that just last week I started a save with one of São Bernardo's Rivals, São Caetano - which are out of the league system, and we now are in the 3rd division of the Brasileiro. GLHF, professor Z!
I'm very impressed by Zealand's knowledge about the structure of the league and which states and clubs are the strongest. He really did his homework lol
The distance from Rio de Janeiro to Fortaleza is the distance from London to Budapest (actually a bit bigger), and my club will casually do that twice tha next year (Fortaleza and Ceará away), then go play in Argentina or something 3 days later, then play in Rio a week later. It's crazy harder to manage in Brazil just because of that in itself
You can use the scroll wheel to for example change from Important Player to Regular Starter in the contract negotiation. This applies to any box that is similar to this one.

there are essentially 2 different leagues that each team plays in at the same time, the state and national leagues. The national league is the normal competition you probably understand. The state leagues are only played by clubs from that state, by every club from that state, minus a couple exceptions. And yes, you can play in a state league's lower division and still play in the national league. This has happened with Vila Nova, Criciúma, and Santo André historically, and will happen with Ferroviária and Ituano in 2025. The state and national leagues are independent from eachother, but you need the state league to qualify for the national. The national divisions go from A to D, you can be promoted and relegated like everywhere else. However, the state leagues have varying divisons, rules, and even cups in a couple. In these leagues is where clubs will get a spot in Série D based on their performances, with the amount of spots per state based on a coefficient, which in simple terms is how strong that state's clubs are in the national league. Let's give an example of the São Paulo state league. There are 5 divisions (A1 to A4, and finally B at the bottom, which is a sub-23 competition) and a single cup, the Copa Paulista. In order for a club from the Série A3 (3rd state division) to reach the National League (Série D), it would need to promote to Série A2, to Série A1, and then likely just avoid relegation. From there, the club would need to qualify for the Série C, or they would need to perform well in that year's Paulista Série A1 to qualify again. Alternatively, it can win the Copa Paulista. This way of gaining spots through state leagues adds much variety in the clubs that play nationally, as well as the rare fairytale promotions from minnows. Each state league is different, so research some of them! São Paulo has 5 divisons, while a small state like Amapá only has 2. A few even have 1. There are also 2 regional cups (Copa Verde and Copa do Nordeste) which also use the state leagues for qualification. The Copa do Nordeste is for northeastern clubs only, and the Copa Verde is for Western and Northern. In addition to these qualifications and for the Série D, the State Leagues are where clubs gain a spot to the Copa do Brasil, the national cup. Just because you're big, it doesn't mean you'll be there. In 2025, Corinthians won't play in the Copa do Brasil unless they win the Copa Sul-Americana due to poor performances in the Paulista Série A1, but Votuporanguense, a tiny club from the Série A3, will. In FM's base game, the state leagues are watered down, some have incorrect formats (Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul have been switched, somehow), and there is no visible Série D. However, they are generally accurate. You will play both every year, unless your club isn't in the top state league. Then I don't know what happens. Now, for some extra information. Ituano (Série B) was relegated to the Paulista Série A2 in 2024, and will likely be relegated to Série C this season. However, Ferroviária (Série C) gained promotion to Série B this year, while still playing in the Paulista A2 for 2 years. Some cool examples of how the state and national leagues are different. Finally, to defend the state leagues, they are very important in a country like Brazil where finances may run thin if you travel across the country each week. While I agree it needs to be shortened for bigger clubs where they can play only in the knockout stages, it's still important history and the state leagues have defined football's big clubs in Brazil, in addition to giving small clubs not only something to fight for, but also a chance to play some of the "Big Ones". Without them, we wouldn't have these big rivalries between 4 or even 5 clubs. The state leagues give every state their "big clubs," and every one of them have something to win each year, whether you're Palmeiras, Sampaio Corrêa, Operário-MS or Santa Cruz, you're fighting for the state league
The previous comment gave an in-depth explanation but I’ll just add some info. He said the highest rated league but there’s no actual ranking. It’s just that São Paulo is one of the most important states in Brazil and have some of the biggest clubs. The second one would be Rio. Rio and São Paulo have 4 major clubs: Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, Vasco da Gama (Rio) & Corinthians, Palmeiras, Santos and São Paulo (São Paulo). There are also some states with 2 big clubs such as Cruzeiro, Atlético Mineiro, Grêmio, Internacional, Bahia, Vitória, Athletico Paranaense and Coritiba.
ur basically playing with the rival of my home town team. I am from Santo Andre, Brazil! Sao Bernardo and Sao Caetano are our rivals!! What a bad choice, Z!
It's funny seeing someone experience first hand how weird the brazillian state leagues are, and the São Paulo one is not even the worst one in this aspect
you've never experienced hell until you've managed Cuiabá and ran down every club there 14-0 for 3 months i managed Cuiabá once and ended the season with a +120 goal difference in like 14 games

Try wide midfielders with inside forwards
ABC is my country!! Best place in Brazil. I wish Santo André was playable
What happened to crusader kings ????
It's funny seeing someone experience first hand how weird the brazillian state leagues are, and the São Paulo one is not even the worst one in this aspect
you've never experienced hell until you've managed Cuiabá and ran down every club there 14-0 for 3 months
i managed Cuiabá once and ended the season with a +120 goal difference in like 14 games
Is Z using the fm world champ tactic?
Wait, what happened with Cristaldo?
We want "Bellini-Samba" as a goal sound bite.
That song was made by a German and barely anyone in Brazil had ever heard of it. Me being Brazilian only got familiar with the song through the internet. There must be much better choices to be made if he wanted to put up a Brazilian song
Ok...we still want it haha
agua santa is also a são bernardo's rival
Hey Zealand I just watched your video. I'm from the ABC Region myself. Did you know that there is an older team from São Bernardo? The name is EC São Bernardo
The season in Brasil is very long but it's quite fun
Churry Cristaldo used to play for Racing but we got rid of him after some pretty nasty Domestic Violence accusations came out. From memory he was a decent enough player but didn't quite score enough.
you should have waited for the season in brazil to end (december) since the next football manager is delayed but oh well
In fact, he's kinda right. Brazil's start in 2024. We still running. We are 8 games from the end of the season.
Helll yeah come to brazil zealand
I took mirassol from serie b to serie a champion and got sacked shortly after. The boards are weird in brazil.
MY HOMETOWN TEAM LETS GOOOOOOOOO🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
