Three things:
1) I was waiting to see if you were going to make the Lionel Richie reference, and when you did I both smiled and felt justified. My 9-'s childhood nostalgia thanks you.
2) Yes, I would love to see a reboot or a modern console sequel. Given the capabilities of today's system, this concept could be incredible.
4) Seeing as how this comment comes over a year after the initial airing of the video, I'm sure someone has commented already (too lazy to check), but...Am I the only one who thinks the drawing of the evil base/Pluto looks like Starkiller base from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"?
😃
You skipped over number 3... and went straight to 4... LOL!
This was one of the defining games of my NES childhood. Beating it on both difficulties was one of my proud NES achievements. I love verything about this game, and I definitely want to give it another go after all these years.
I had a choice between Metroid yellow box or this in a shop as kid I went with Metroid but I can see both would have been good choices
I've never played this game. Thanks to you, I now want too!
I wish I had know of this game back in the day. This seemed like a fun game
Great game. I remember beating this back in the 90's and it was a weekend well wasted. It amazes me that decades later there aren't more platformers doing innovative things like the gravity reversal. I'd love to see a reboot.
A good friend of mine had a copy of this. Brought it over back in the mid 90s when our group would have sleep overs and play the NES all night. Those game scenes brought me back.
In the mid 90s I traded a bunch of Magic the Gathering cards to a friend for a bunch of NES games. Many of the games were blah titles but included in them was this wonderful gem of a title, along with Crystalis, Guardian Legend, Battle of Olympus, and Castlevania 3. Happy I did it.
I specifically remember having the Nintendo Power Metal Storm poster on the inside of my locker door during one year of middle school. At the time, I found it expendable as none of my neighborhood friends owned or rented the game. Random memory.
Finally
Someone is talking about this game
Thanks
The first time I saw a preview for Metal Storm in Nintendo Power I knew I had to have this game. It took a few years but I did finally manage to secure a copy for my birthday one year and I played the ever-loving crap out of this game! If I remember correctly I did in fact manage to beat it on Expert Mode, but that was a LOONNNGG time ago, lol. I loved the game so much that I eventually adopted the name Metal Storm as my standard gamer tag for a variety of platforms, and a few of my older friends still call me "Stormy" for short! I agree that this game is sadly overlooked and not nearly as popular as it should be. I think part of the problem was that it was released close to the end of the NES lifespan and by this point the SNES was already firmly in the spotlight. A modern remastering or remake of this game could be absolutely epic if it was done right, and someone did in fact re-release a collector's edition of the game, which you can look into here: retro-bit.com/metal-storm. Thanks for the awesome video and stay safe out there!
i was trying to remember this game and it took me forever because i could have sworn it was an snes game. seems ahead of it's time for an nes game to me.
The snes game is a sequel. It's one of the front mission series 2 on nes and 2 on snes
i preordered the pal collector from retrobit..a fantastic licensed reissue of this phenomenal game :P
I rented this game from Blockbuster back in the day. It's one of my all time favorites for the NES; or any console for that matter. I've only played via an emulator since; due to the ridiculously high price demanded these days for an actual cart. If only I'd bought it back then. Well, as they say; "hindsight is 20/20."
Rented this game sooo much as a kid! My brother and I loved it. Nostalgia!
Yesssss! One of my all-time favorite nes games! Owned it since back in the day! Still own it! Despite the increased monetary value, I'm NEVER selling it.
Yeah you have to keep that one.
The base mech doesn't match the design on the cover art BUT your upgraded mech does
Ahhh yes.
This is one of the og front mission games there's like 3 or 4
Wish they would bring it to the Switch. Would definitely play it. Wish i had a NES. I almost bought the release from LRG just so I'd have it but i passed or there was something else i was buying at the time.
".......Get stuck in a never ending loop."....Kind of like my Dicorce
Zing!
If you have the patience to learn from your mistakes this is a very rewarding and challenging game anyone can beat.
Agreed! It's just about having the patience to learn your way through... Infinite continues and passwords so it's up to you to quit or not. After awhile of playing the gravity shift just felt like normal.
Gotta blow up the death star before it sets its sites on Uranus!
What's better? Friday Night Arcade's content, or his one liners? Suck it, Neptune!
Looks like VVVVVV took some inspiration from this game.
So The First Order turned Pluto into Starkiller Base?
If you can get all the way through expert mode in this game, you'll laugh out loud at people who still think Ninja Gaiden and Ghosts 'n' Goblins are challenging. It's madness.
Agreed. Stages 3 and 4 were the most insane on expert, but the whole game was. I believe its accessed only by password because its too insane and maybe even untested. It was disgusting just trying to find the fuckin path of movement to survive. I had to play all the levels as almost one single uninterrupted movement flow. Stop and die basically. Finding those paths was insane as there were no videos of the game back in 2008 when I did it. I got my good friend to play it as well and he ended up playing it more, getting farther and that helped to get past some of the brick walls I hit. I would time out some of the bosses too. To this day densest most insane 2D game Ive beat, on expert. Gun.Smoke for arcade is a different style since you cant memorize it, and that also is one of the hardest 2D games Ive played. Im about 1/2 through that on mame. I want to redo Metal Storm expert and capture the full game, but ive been putting that shit off. ha ha
@MultiTarded Appreciate that shit brother !! I am not sure if I will ever complete it again. I was considering doing it again just to capture it but after stage 1 I took a break. ha ha.
Gumshoe we need a crazy lightgun game
Lol
I gotta play this game now! Got a hundred bucks I can "borrow"?!? Great work as usual. Love the vids
Probably the best IREM game released for NES. Nice vid, Aaron. 🤘
Did you play any of "Kunio Kun" series on NES ?
Thanks for the Tuesday pick me up Aaron and thanks for the hard work in making the vid. Never played or even heard of it. I feel that the gameplay would be very much addicting but the character and enemy graphics kind of deter me. They could have done a much better job, but hey it's old school NES. This game is probably still better than most of the crap that has been out for the past decade or so.
I have it, and is very frustrating.
I like it.
I want to get a copy of this game, shame that it’s gotten so expensive.
Yeah, it's tough to find.
It's getting a reprint by retrobit if you haven't heard by now.
I love you daddy 😍😍
