- The American Symphony Orchestra is a NYC based carrier of the great American orchestral tradition.
Sibelius 4th is I admit a slow-to-open work, but it's of lasting and also enigmatic value. The conductor has rehearsed the orchestra well, the music flows naturally with the climaxes and the dynamics brilliantly presented. I've tried to present the upper strings bright enough for the elaborate patterns to come forward. In many recordings the details disappear. Sibelius did not compose much for the cello, but here it has an important part.
This was a live recording but I did not need to repair much audience noise.
At 2:18 one of the brass made a messy entry, so for about 0.7 seconds Segerstam/Helsinki P.O. take most of the spectrum over.
0:01 Tempo molto moderato, quasi adagio
9:29 Allegro molto vivace
14:18 Il tempo largo
23:52 Allegro

Superb, and thanks again ❤
Outstanding....Enigmatic and depressing....a Wonder unlike other Sibelius....I think he composed it after his child's death......BRAVI from Mexico City!
Thank you! Kirsti, who was especially dear to Janne, died at age 2 in 1900 and the premiere of the 4th was in 1911.
Superb, and thanks again ❤
