- Paignton Zoo, is a zoo in Paignton, Devon, England. The zoo is part of South West Environmental Parks Ltd which is owned by Wild Planet Trust, formerly known as the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust. Wild Planet Trust also runs Living Coasts in Torquay, Devon and Newquay Zoo in Newquay, Cornwall.

@@abiegreyvenstein4123 I think you need to wake up. Extinction is a very real threat for many species across the globe. Although keeping animals in enclosures isn't ideal it is vital for the survival of so many species. As well as most zoos being charities themselves many of them run charities for wildlife conservation in the field too. Chester zoo run the Act for Wildlife charity. Jersey zoo is run by Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and Whipsnade zoo aswell as London zoo are run by ZSL (zoological society of London). We are entering a sixth mass extinction and the first of which caused by a single species, humans. We got the world into this mess so it is our duty to the world out of it. Keeping animals in captivity isn't ideal but it is what must happen to prevent extinction. Good zoos follow very strict guidelines from zookeeping organisations like BIAZA, AZA and EAZA to ensure that animals are kept in the best possible conditions. Zoo animals are part of carefully managed breeding programmes to ensure captive animal populations are as genetically diverse as possible so if a species was in a serious condition in the wild then zoo stock can replenish wild populations once it is safe to do so. Many species that have become almost extinct in the wild have been reintroduced thanks to captive breeding such as the California condor, scimitar horned oryx, przewalski horse, partula snail, mountain chicken frog, corrobee frog, eastern bongo, regent honeyeater, Panamanian golden frog, Scottish wildcat, bollinger river turtle, golden lion tamarin, amur leopard and many more. If human greed continues on the level that it is at now then without zoos and their vital captive breeding programmes then we could see a loss of biodiversity unmatched by any in the earth's history so please make sure you know the facts before hurling inaccurate assumptions about.
