I agree with your points and I'd like to point out that there is absolutely no mental peace in private jobs, always the situation of getting fired the next day - no matter whether you are in FAANG or not. The government doesn't address this aspect making it hard to fire employees, therefore there is a craze of govt. jobs. At some point in life, people just want mental peace and not to be in survival mode!

India isn't just metro cities. Crores of youths out there want to work good salaried job in their own state if not own home town. The government is the only hope that gives you chance to work in their own home town.
And how many MNCs are there in India? Most of the youth leave their home states and work in metro cities on meger wages even tho they have higher degrees.
So why not put some effort to get a better job in Banks, Govt sector, Railways, etc.
Pvt sector in India still lacks motivational factor. Few Pvt companies have that charm like Tata, Mahindra, Reliance. But not much.

I don't think starting salary in private sector can be generalised this way. I have many friends who started their career private sector with 20+ LPA right after engineering or MBA. I also have friends who started at 4 LPA. Given the talent and hard work needed to crack group A govt sector jobs, these jobs should be compared with top end of private jobs. The salary of honourable secretary is far less at age of 60 where Mr Pichai or CEOs get per industry standard. Yes we have some bias in our society towards govt job that these are privilege. Lay-off reason are more related with capacity planning which is never right in govt sectors, lots of vacancies are still pending while major works are outsourced while Private ones are planned in advance and lay off underperforming employees during bad times.
Let’s see govt job from bus conductor to Cabinet secretary and private jobs from fresher to Mr Rajesh Gopinathan

Job security is overhyped. A skilled employee in private sector can fetch another job in few days/months if he/she gets fired. Private guy can earn so much more in less number of years than a government official that he can achieve early retirement and financial independence. It's not wise to escape from pressure and avoid working on the toes if situation demands unless if you are having some medical ailments. Overall, my take on this is that join a government job only if the work suits your personality traits and you are excited about the work, otherwise the job merely becomes a way to feed your stomach without providing any fulfilment. But here, another outlook is there that we reside in a overpopulated country where job satisfaction seems a luxury, here people are ruthlessly fighting for jobs. I think we should strive to get the best possible job/career as per our capability and qualification.

People should take a message, don’t "prepare" for govt jobs all your life. Make a threshold of say a certain age or attempts, and if doesnt fruitify, move on with life, look for something else. I have seen people first preparing for NDA(18 age limit), then CAPF(25), then UPSC(32), even if they don't qualify, they start state service preparation for which age limit is 40. This is just wasting time and escaping responsibilities. Your family needs you, your country needs you. Move on with life and do something productive rather than just preparing for exams.
As for the comparison between pvt job and govt job, the opportunities in metros and with MNCs is immense and are comparable to any govt job. Many jobs are paying much better than mid rung govt servants(upto Assistant Section officer grade).

    (a) Job security.
    (b) Increment dependent on inflation.
    (c) Experiece do count.
    (d) Highly competitive at higher ranks.
    (e) Assured career progression.
    (f) Higher slabs of Income tax.
    (g) Stagnation beyond a pt.
    (h) Rank profile.
    2. Pvt
    (a) Unlimited avenues.
    (b) Pay and perks dependent on experience.
    (c) Job switch is always an avbl option.
    (d) A lot matters on the Institute you have passed.
    (e) Working as per your choice.
    (f) Exponential chances of increment dependent on your profile.

It's a good thing if Government jobs become unattractive because people think these jobs are very much comfortable with high salary, pension benefits etc, work pressure is less compared to the private sector, all these things actually cause corruption, red tapism and thereby slows development of the country. Hence Government must make any govt job very strict and disciplined just like the defense forces and the private sector which will increase the efficiency of the employees. Also the more a Government job becomes unattractive, the lesser the burden on the central and state government to provide employment to the citizens. Right now no other country in the world is obsessed with Government jobs unlike us. This perception and attitude of the society towards govt jobs must change asap in order to become a developed nation.

Also the apprisals are becoming much more stringent and taxing

I took all my then-permissible four attempts in 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2004 while doing shift duties in the Editorial Department of a national news agency as I couldn't afford to remain unemployed till age 29. I think pvt jobs offered more than the perks of low category jobs in government sector. But the real reason of candidates of some of the states craving for government jobs is that there is no other option, some of the states do not have industry related to engineering field. If one or two industries is there then they look for high skilled candidates with proper communication skill, good presentation skill , fluent in English. But unfortunately candidates studying from government school could not develop those skills, because some states government schools are so poor that they do not focus on overall development of their students. Still some students make through because of their shear perseverance and dedication and sometimes because of their good financial condition.
But those who dose not have good financial condition they suffer, they continue their study by doing other things side by side.
I saw many students who want to work in pvt companies but they could not full fill the requirements of pvt companies. So one option left do self study and prepare for government jobs. Again some government jobs want crystal students, and those students could not become that crystal because of their poor basic education. So after having PhD degree people are applying for peon jobs. And I think those who have not ever faced poverty in their life would never understand this, they only can argue over this topic. But reality will never change.

Comparing a starting lavel position with a Group A Job is what you think your experience. I have seen people getting placed with 30 LPA in companies right after the degree. And comparing a elite class job is what we don't required. Because Group A and B jobs along with the placements in army are matter of passion. Talking point should is it really necessary to run behind lower group jobs like mad. The perks a Group A people get makes the Group D applicant greedy. Two fellow friends of my brother are now poles apart from each other even though they started the same year but in different fields. One in a digital marketing firm as a intern and another as a Group D officer in RI office. After 6 years the private sector bhai was getting 1LPM while the Gov. Bhai just get a contractual to permanent promotion. After 8 years the private sector bhai started up and now running a successful agency. And also this is where our country's growth lied. Think our Government sector as a business organisation. And we are paying salaries to people by getting loans on loans. Think if people drop this mindset of government jobs and try to be skillful and made there skill to pay them, in that way we not only save some money of gov. but also our taxes can help in economic growth. More corporate expertise can make more startups. More skilled man power can accelerate more big industries to set up there buisness in a big scale here in India. Development of technology will rapidly grow because of more privatisation. And hence more educational growth. More people out of below perverty line. Fast development of rural and less need of gov. Grass root services and less peper work and lesses need pf Gov. Employees.

Just believe on your skills and hard work job whether private or government doesn’t matter …in a country where passion and skills are not given important because of reservations in government jobs makes the competition even tough for general category and some sectors of the government like banking are the worst as far as services are concerned , even if people give decades of their life for preparing for civil services most of the time they end up gaining nothing from it if they are not able to crack it so I don’t think so government job is worth the hype unless and until you have a chance of getting it , it’s better to work on your skills and leave this country
