Deira district is one of the oldest in Dubai. A significant number of small and medium-sized retail establishments are concentrated here, owned mainly by immigrants from Pakistan and India. Also here, in the northwestern part of Deira, is the famous Gold souk, a huge jewelry market.
The western border of Deira is the natural channel Dubai Creek, dividing the city into two unequal parts. On the canal, on the shore of Deira, there is a small port - Port Said, from which both cargo transportation to the west coast on traditional dhow ships and group cruise trips of tourists are carried out.
River boats and taxis also run along the canal. In the north, Deira is washed by the waters of the Persian Gulf, in the east it (in the broad sense of understanding, like the entire northeastern part of the city) borders with the Emirate of Sharjah.
