According to what I've read, KZ had a pretty wild ride getting this song together in time for the show. They recorded the previous week's show then afterward announced that instead having a week before the next show, they were going to film it two days from then so that the staff could have time off for a Chinese holiday. They also told KZ to sing Say Something instead of what she had planned to sing. With just two days, time rehearsing with the band was difficult to come by. KZ was desperate, so she had her guitarist, Makoy Portado fly from Manila to Shanghai on less than 24 hours notice. He arrived the morning of the show, they worked out the arrangement in the afternoon and performed it that night. That's why the house band had a fairly minimal role in the performance. About a year or so back a couple of music reactors interviewed the guitarist and one of the things they talked about was the events leading up to his appearance on The Singer.
Makoy Portado is the name of her guitarist. He's amazing!
The arrangement was too difficult for the band to learn in the time they had top left to perform it.
As someone who appreciates production quality, I suggest you would like other performances from Singer 2018. From the musicians, and backup singers to the lighting really well-done productions. You've had a taste of it with KZ. I went back and watched the whole season/contest. Even though I do not speak Chinese I found a lot to enjoy.
