- Friendships are a gift from God. And while they are His blessing to us, the most blessed friendship we can have is with our Lord. In this sermon, Dr. Stanley praises God for bringing friends into our lives and explains the importance of having relationships with others and with Christ.

My best friend, my husband, just passed. I was lucky to have him, if for a little while. Thankfully I have a good, good dog. My supposed friends and even parents and siblings seem to have no love. I try but I don't get anything back from them in terms of real humanity. They all watch huge amounts of TV or still smoke weed, or are still involved in militant liberalism or new age thought. Thankfully I trust in Christ and I know I'll have the right kind of friends again soon. Some of my deepest connections are with strangers, and I'm trying to be more open to getting to know them. I'm still a little heartbroken. Maybe I've been judgemental in the past and made things about me. Jesus forgive me.
Spot on! I've had 5 friends in my 75yrs who all had one thing in common. They all have kept the fire burning in my heart for the Lord Jesus Christ. Their faith and commitment to God made them special and someone I could always go to when I needed help and understanding. They NEVER looked down on me or looked away in my time of need. Like wise, I always was there for them. A friendship that has God as the focus, is a friendship that endures!!!!!!!

When my husband and I got married we both said we felt uncomfortable with the persons we each had as best friends. We agreed to give up our best friend. It was hard in the beginning but it was the right thing to do. His friend was heavily into drugs, eventually taking his life. Mine was all around mean spirited. No matter how much I tried talking her about her ways she'd only get meaner. My husband and I are the very best of friends.
AMEN!!! I learned very quickly that my Husband is my best friend. I had to cut a close friend off who out of nowhere started acting Insecure, Jealous, Envious, Mean Spirited and always Gossiping about mutual friends.

Even family or relatives can be toxic. It was painful but to let go, but I love God first and pray still for them.

~John 3:16 (NIV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
WHAT EXACTLY DOES BELIEVING IN GOD'S SON MEAN?: accept God's testimony about his Son:
~1 John 5:10: "Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son."
WHAT IS GOD'S TESTIMONY ABOUT HIS SON? here it is:
~1 John 5:11-13 "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."
DO I HAVE TO DO ANY WORKS? no! you are saved freely! you will go to heaven when you die now! Reference verses:
Colossians 2:13-15 "When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross."
~John 6:26-29 "Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”"
~Ephesians 2:8-9: " For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast."
~Romans 4:2-8: " If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about-but not before God. What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness. David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
“Blessed are those
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the one
whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”"
~Romans 3:20-31: "Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood-to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished- he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law."
Am I saved forever now? no need to worry? yep! you are sealed with the Holy Spirit!
~Ephesians 1:13-14: "And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession-to the praise of his glory."
I still find myself sinning- why?
~Romans 7:14-24: "We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin."

This is a testimony,
I was born on February 28 2006, after spending only 5 months in my mother's womb, I was born prematurely and did not fully develop, the doctors said I wouldn't last 24 hours, but look ! I've lasted almost 14½ years, I am living proof of God's mercy, love and grace. We have all been loved before we knew it, and are still loved. It is wonderful is it not ??!!! 👏😭😂

We need to discern over Godly ones too. But agreed. Ones that will build us up and be real in our lives. Friends can be hard to make at times .

Jesus is my friend. I had to leave lots of friends behind when I was saved and stopped drinking alcohol. They didn't really seem to miss me at all!
Good for you, Susan. Your former "friends" do not like that you don't run with them anymore and do the same things they do. It makes them feel uncomfortable and they don't understand it. I wouldn't worry too much about losing those kinds of friends. May God protect you and bring true and godly friends into your life.
Most of those types of friendships won't, and that's okay. We need to be vigilant with our friendships because presence doesn't mean beneficial. Some people can even take advantage of us. Furthermore, some friendships we try to keep around may not be good for us either.

What I’ve always loved about pastor Stanley is his ability to make you feel like a child again hearing God’s word. His audience many of whom who are older enjoy his lessons well into old age and it’s a blessing to see the young ones there all learning on the same level the same lessons. This is the fourth sermon of his that I've listened and I thank the Holy Spirit for leading me to this video . I especially like the sermon Waiting on God and taking control of our thoughts. Really , if we fill our minds with God's words everyday it is heavenly life.

I was so hurt by my friend of over 40 years. Our husband had disagreement and things were said that ruined our friendship. We have tried but so awkward now ,it failed. Amazed that a close friendship like this can end with just a few harsh words.

I so needed to hear this also, I want to be kind to those around me but that doesn't mean they have to be my friend--lesson I will remember. I will be more selective also. Scripture says, choose your friend's wisely. I have listened to Charles Stanley for year's and I thank God for such a servant of God.

It's the 1st time I hear a preacher talking about the importance of a friendship. God bless you for all the knowledge and revelation brought by you through the Holy Spirit.
A long time ago I asked God to give me one friend and then show me how to be the best friend I could be. God never failed me and brought me a friend and we have been friends for 10 years and still going strong. Jesus Christ is my best friend, and my husband is my love, but just having a friend to confide in, encourage, share my heart and faith was a true blessing from God. I will certainly show her how much I appreciate all her prayers, opening up to me and letting me in. God has shown me how to do the same, even though I have been hurt in the past. Thank you Charles Stanley for your message and reminder to show appreciation for those special people in our lives. My disappointments in life have come from family and people that call themselves Christians and then stab you in the back. But this has just made me stronger in my faith and standing with my best friend Jesus Christ!!! Gods Blessings on you and your continued ministry!!

I had a friend I’d go to the end of this earth for. I have a temper as well. I’ve cried out to the Lord many of times to change my ways but unfortunately it may be too late. I love the Lord with all of my heart and I believe all things are possible through Christ. I also believe He is a restorer. Pray for me that I may fully submit to God! In the mighty name of Jesus Christ!

I have isolated myself from my old friends. Not because they do harm but I am jealous of them, I don’t have accomplishments, success or anything I could brag. In my friend group, there’s always the star. Every one of them has something, and I am ashamed of myself. I hid and ran away from them. I dont have a brave face to show them. God uses my isolation for his purpose. I grew relationship with Him. My perspective has changed, my desires are no longer what they are used to, what I value is now different and my now friends, they may be far fewer but their faith in God is immense. Im happy and growing in God with them. Even though I am broken, they welcome me.

I recently moved on from most of my childhood friendships. I felt it was time to reset. We were holding each other back spiritually by tending to default into old patterns and behaviors. I still pray for them and wish the best for them, but I look forward to all of us growing more towards God as we spend our time differently, away from each other.

Giving Honor to God, your teachings about friendships was on point.Since on my journey I have no friends at all. COVID has confined me, but before COVID I had no friends and now that I am wanting God to take over my life I really don't have any friends. My only true friend lives in Seattle and I live in Oklahoma. Most of the people I was associating with were no good and now this one only looks from me something I can do for them. Do I might as well only have a friend in Jesus and my children. No one I see nowadays wants to do right and live for God. Will have to continue my journey without a true friend till Jesus sends me one. God bless Amen 🙏😊💕

What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness. David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
“Blessed are those
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the one
whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”"
~Romans 3:20-31: "Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood-to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished- he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law."
Am I saved forever now? no need to worry? yep! you are sealed with the Holy Spirit!
~Ephesians 1:13-14: "And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession-to the praise of his glory."
I still find myself sinning- why?
~Romans 7:14-24: "We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin."

Please know...that once you start asking the Lord to change your heart to have a desire for this...He may bring you in very uncomfortable situations ...but the beautiful part is that HIS beautiful grace and strength is right in that situation....I started praying a while back that God work on my ability to walk in "inconveniences" to be longsuffering...One of the first things HE did was someone took my parking space and I had to walk further from my car...so I put a note on that persons car saying "this is my parking space"...Well when I walked away the person came out and I let them know...Well when I went into my apartment the HOLY SPIRIT said "that's NOT YOUR PARKING SPACE IT'S MINE"...and so HE reminded me of my prayer...So the next day I asked the LOrd if He would bring that girl in my path so I could apologize to her....well that same morning I walked out to my car and here she comes ...So I explained to her and apologized and that anytime she needed this space it was ok....since then it has happened more than a handful of times....the last time was just last week..PRAISE GOD THAT HE CONFORMS US INTO THE IMAGE OF HIS DEAR SON......

I regret not listening to my gut feeling at age 19 to breakup with who became my first husband and father of my beautiful daughters. I was raised in the church but he wasn’t churched. After 20 years of his in fidelity and many other sinful behaviors I gained courage and divorced him. After 5 years I remarried a guy that attended church every week but I never saw him read God’s word or initiate prayer , he didn’t talk about spiritual matters. About 2 months after our wedding he announced he wasn’t going to church again and it wasn’t any of my “damn” business why he’s decided this. About 2 years later I discovered he’d been in 3 internet affairs since a few months after we married. I learned many things from these experiences and am more aware of my gut feelings with people.
