This reminds me of one time....
I met a yt in Kaiju Paradise while grinding and then right after that I got a dia. (also the yt was Cozi/Cozimonium and also Shino was with her) And then after I died as dia, my friend Eric who was in my server too got a gold right after that. After she died as gold she immediately got another gold. After she died as gold, AGAIN, someone who was cosplaying as Wooly got a gold but reseted on it. RIGHT AFTER MY FRIEND ERIC DIED AS GOLD FOR THE 2ND TIME. and then, someone got gold. literally, immediately after that. after THAT gold died, my friend ERIC got another gold. after SHE died as GOLD for the 3RD TIME, someone else got gold, again. after that gold died after some minutes, another gold SPAWNED. after THAT gold died, after a while, another and last gold ever spawns. after that some minutes later po started and I couldn't get a bandana.

Is it true that grinding for a rare no longer works ?
You can still grind! The rare cooldown is 20 minutes, but there can only be 3 rares in the server. Hope this helps!
