    Very true - but in some cases if the spring rate is close and the rider is on a budget, that's still a viable option for them to consider as valving is much more important.

    make sure you take the time to get the right product for your needs as there are many offerings out there. We usually have a 15 minute conversation before we decide on what to do.

    Hey Dave. My 2000 zrx has head shake under full acceleration exiting corners. Rear is set with good sag etc. Fort. Fork seems harsh especially with wheelies. What you think?

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  3 роки тому

      Have you checked shock travel used? Start there as anything under full acceleration is 80% rear shock. Fork rebound being too fast might be contributing

    I can't get the front sag number even close to 25mm to 35mm but my zip tie shows me that my front is using most of the fork. close to bottom out but sag was at best 15mm

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  6 років тому

      Sag is a starting number and you simply need to know your starting point. If you use all the travel in the forks and shock, you need to increase preload to match your ability and hydraulic settings.

    I haven't had a shop in Southern CA for quite a long time. Tige closed Catalyst Reaction several years ago. Associated costs would be based on the manufacturer. Fork revalve will be in the $5-600 range and look for an aftermarket shock on eBay (Penske, Elka, Ohlins, JRI etc) as that will save you a lot of money. There's no need for the 25/30mm cartridges if you use a GP Suspension 20mm piston kit in the forks, stock springs are ok.

  • @catalystreactionsbw
    @catalystreactionsbw  11 років тому +1

    yes, you'll find most springs are made by only a few manufacturers, and they are branded for those companies. What you have to be careful of is the length of the spring you order! Make sure you say exactly what your forks are so they send the right one to you.

    Great response Dave. I think the thing that was missing from your response was the relative performance differences between the different re-valving options. The would help those of us who have decided to upgrade suspension evaluate how the different options. There are many people wondering whether to just do springs, springs and valves, maybe piston or a cartridge. I think it maybe worth doing a video on the different options, what they are and there performance gains. Love your stuff. Thanks.

    Dave, i need your help! I have an r1 2003 only for track use and i want to upgrade the front forks with k-tech valve kit. I also have a oem cartridge kit spare, from a gsx1300r hayabusa (99-07) with 25mm oem valves, that fits the r1 forks. My question is, what is better for you, upgrade r1 forks with k-tech 20SSRK kit which is mainly for track or to upgrade the cartridge i have as spare with 25SSK kit which is for road and track combined? For the spare cartridge, k-tech doesnt have a SSRK kit, only the SSK, but it is 25mm... i would appreciate your opinion!

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  11 місяців тому

      After review of the information I would think the SSRK kit would be the best solution if the bike will live at the track. If 50/50 road and track, the SSK kit makes much more sense!

    • @georgestatho
      @georgestatho 11 місяців тому

      @@catalystreactionsbw is a track bike only, on advanced group. It makes sense for the valve kit itself but i was looking to know how important is the valve size of cartridges, relative to a race valve kit. So 20SSRK is the way to go and not 25SSK!! Thanks a lot!! appreciate it!!

    Unfortunately when I disassembled my 2014 Yamaha WR250R forks to change the oil seals and oil, I found rust on the top section of the spring and on the damper rod. I plan to clean it up as well as possible with 220 sandpaper and scotch brite. Any advice?

    Dave i live in southern california and want your shop to do my forks... i have a 2007 suzuki gsxr 750 with stock suspension 30,000 miles serviced once....i weigh 225lbs with gear ....i do about 3-5 trackdays a year and a bunch of canyon riding. What do you recommend revalve and spring?...i know eventually i would like an ohlins 20mm or 30mm cartridge kit along with a ttx in the rear. How much would something like that run me if i bring in my forks?

    Probably as close to perfect an answer to my own suspension woes with my old CBR954, thank you very much for this Dave. Almost certainly going to look at a revalve/respring job on this as currently it's handling like a dog. Thanks again for all the advise you're putting out there, it's appreciated.

    Hy Dave, GSXR1000 RRRR 2017. Im 195 to 205lbs, track days max 8/ year ( intermidiate group ) and is my stock front BFF good enough or must i do revalve - respring or both ( K-Tech )? Rear shock BFRC is to soft, Yoshimura has NEW springs for it from 105N/mm to 130 N/mm Is it worth it to do (200 usd) + work + oil change and what for spring rate to buy? or is better to buy K-tech DDS lite, WP, Bitubo rear shock? Thanks and regards from Croatia

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  4 роки тому

      Hi Tomislav. Great questions and thank you for them. I have found with advanced riders that BFF forks are good enough to advanced group with just a spring change and oil servicing every 12-16 track days. The rear shock needs a spring when you get advanced and same oil/nitrogen servicing. That is text book, so we asses the real world based on how much fork and shock travel is used and if you are in the last 25% of the settings (75-100%)?

      @@catalystreactionsbw Front I have (15,5- 16 turns) 14 turns in clockwise preload and there is 10mm left, sag is 40mm. With all in 16 and 0.5 turn out on track is 15mm-20mm left. From your videos max from 16 I must have 12 turns in 35mm sag and travel 75%. Rear is now 6 turns in from factory setings, now feel is mutch better and I think that is too mutch and to stiff. What spring rate do you recomend for front and for rear?

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  4 роки тому

      @@funghy85 so revalve of the forks would allow you to keep the stock springs. Same with rear shock. Adding preload is compensating for more compression that is needed.

      Given your weight you will need to upgrade the suspension right away with fork springs and 20w oil (cheapest choice) plus a purchase a replacement shock.
