- Part Three!
For my 17th birthday I organised a private mini bell ringing outing to Devon. Buckfast Abbey was pretty much the highlight for it!
Anyway, enjoy the fantastic Taylor boom of these bells. Hosanna is glorious!
My thanks to Peter Westlake-Webb for providing the drone shots of the Abbey!
Hosanna is a really beautiful bell ... wowww!!! 💖
Beautiful sound od Bell Hosanna ❤❤❤
Beautiful bells and nice aerial shots. Happy birthday!!
They are gorgeous bells - IMHO Taylor’s best ring of twelve! And thank you... it’s weird to be finally able to drive!
Lucky!!! We have to be 18 before we can drive here in Australia
Ah that's a shame! I'm hoping to get my license by November... that way I can make it to 100 towers pretty soon - I'm currently on 96.
Ringer Jake im on 4
Ringer Fred me too
Beautiful sound of the bells
Gorgeous tenor
Indeed - Taylor's of 1935, what else do you expect? ;P
Good drone footage at the begining
Credit for that goes to Peter Westlake-Webb :^)
What's the heaviest bell you have rung?
Heaviest change ringing bell I’ve rung is the Exeter tenor (72cwt) and the heaviest swinging bell I’ve rung is Hosanna (147cwt).
17:24 a fly walking at the brown wood on the bottom of the screen
Must have been a deaf fly then...
haha
6:10 perfect time with the tenor and the bell on speaker
6:42 love how it starts
13:44 wow
7:29
Cool!!!!
Hosanna sounds like Emmanuel of Notre dame de paris in Paris, France
And riverside church in New York city
I’m listening to the tenor being raised with my headphones on full blast, TECHNOLOGY
I imagine that must be deafening!! ;^)
Ringer Jake It’s awesome when you do it
I wholeheartedly agree - the bells are phenomenal!
At 18:35 The 3 bells ring down
6:00 this bell perfect ringing
HOSANNA
7:51
LOOK GOOD
Can you please kindly refrain from screaming on my videos? Thank you..........
Sorry D:
I love the sound of European bells - just not the same here in the USA. I was wondering why ringing down is so important? I've seen it commented about safety - is it because it's a way to slow the momentum on the clapper? Like at the end of the video, the ringer was still pulling the rope slightly, rocking the bell. It's a bucket list thing to learn how to ring a bell of this type...doubt it'll ever happen. :)
There are a handful of change ringing bells in the US….including ones like the big one in the video too
@@j_y06 ah this is true, but none in my location. There is a carillon but I don’t think we have a change ring here in town.
When the bell is in the mouth down position it's completely safe. If it's in the up position and the bell is knocked off of the stay somehow, then an out of control bell is dangerous with the rope flying around everywhere potentially catching limbs etc (though I'm a noob so someone may correct me!)
Bella😊
i see the tenor clapper is counterweighted, unusual!
Does anyone know what chimes Buckfast Abbey does every quarter or half hour?
There is no chiming the quarter hours or hour strike at abbey.
Nothing, there's no chimes at all apart from the Consecration on Sundays when Hosanna is sounded twice via an electromagnetic hammer operated from the choir of the abbey via a button. It's a shocker when you're stood outside having a quiet conversation as it's so loud!
I ring bells in Malta.
Cool
Cool
Hosanna (bourdon) sounds like the Second in Riverside Church NYC (F0)
It does yes. They're both the same note and are hung almost identically.
Only difference is that Hosanna have rope drive, and Second bell in Riverside Church(New York) is electrified
also @@zvonazgnadbiskupije1094, the Second of Riverside was cast by Gillett & Johnston of Croydon, and Hosanna was cast by John Taylor of Loughborough
@@LongboatLtd2004 Yes. Differences are visible, but both bells are really nice
Zvona ZG Nadbiskupije Very
Whats the strike notes to all the bells in order from 1st to hosanna including the tenor
G, (sharp 2nd F#) F, E, D, C, B, (flat sixth Bb), A, G, F, E, D, C (Hosanna F)
Thank you mate :)
You’re welcome.
@@RingerJake In Germany and Croatia we wrote is as f°-c'-d'-e'-f'-g'-a'-(b')-h'-c''-d''-e''-f''-(fis'')-g"
With contra-clapper?

Esse sino pareceu ei Nova Iorque
Job of his 😊
Bells c' and h' sounds like Grassmayr's bells(I want to that they are similar)
They make some beautiful sounding bells
@Chad. I agree
De riversido
what are the sirens at 6:02 for, is a digital bell system?
Yes, it's an elextronic speaker system to allow recorded bell tracks to be played, for things like the Angelus and compline services. It doesn't sound as good as the real bells though!
@@RingerJakeYes but why the speaker bell is ringing while the tenor is ringing up?
Is the note B0 or F0
Hosanna is in F.
@@RingerJake Ok Thanks.
@@jesusblanco5077 The overtone is B.
What are the other ropes for ?
The other ropes are used to ring the other bells. Buckfast has a ring of twelve bells and also two extra semi tone bells, meaning that numerous other combinations can be rung. It's quite useful!
@@RingerJake are all the bells set in the key to match the bourdon ?
@@chadbeverly4926 Sorry for the late reply, didn't see this! Pretty much, yes.
6:17 A Bell in F. But what is it? Tenor or Treble
The Bourdon of Big Bell
Service Bell, That is in Bb
High level and low quality content for a long. Bell and. Loud.
sounded like the one in london
It’s funny : the wheels of the bells are in wood. 🪵
