My brother protrayed Mephistopheles (Lucifer) on stage in the 1970'd and his interpretation of what Lucifer should look like was completely different than this version.
When he came on stage his looks were far more sinister and in my opinion far more what Lucifer would look like in person.
The actor who plays Lucifer comes off as sympathetic to Dr.Faustus and even sad when his soul is dragged to hell.
I feel that Lucifer would be gladly rejoicing with glee in destroying Dr. Faustus and damming his soul for all eternity !!
The movie was panned and that's unfortunate because Richard was simply brilliant in memorizing his lines and putting life into each spoken word.
Elizabeth Taylor who had no spoken lines was Beautiful as Helen of Troy and in the end when Dr. Faustus soul is claimed, she is as Wicked looking as they come.
The film can be hard to watch because the dialogue needs to be listened to with a good ear and without distractions.
The film is a play that was filmed in London on a real stage and for viewers expecting fast action or great special effects won't see that in the film.

Mephistopheles (technically) is not Lucifer. He is but an emissary. As told again and in mythos and folklore from Marlowe to Goethe to Boito. So I repeat: Mephistopheles is not Lucifer just as Baphomet, Beelzebub, Azazael, or Asmodeus not Lucifer; and in analogy nor is Michael, Raphael or Gabriel or Metatron, God.

The Scenes in Hell are VERY Tame compared to what it actually is. Multiply what you just saw by Infinity; and you could NOT possibly come close to how Bad it actually is. NOT Kidding.
