    I have lived in Stavanger for 8 years now and I’ve been sailing all around here and it’s amazing - so funny to see that you also are not able to leave - it’s a real perl around here.
    As for fish, crabs, oysters lobsters etc you are actually allowed to use traps and fishnets in Norway which is a much more effective use of time and easily gives 10kg per day with very little efforts - like 10 min of your time..
    Also, note that the wind direction here I Norway nearly always follow the direction of the fjords due to channeling effects so you will do a lot of upwind sailing without a Diesel engine so just factor that into account when planning your trips... the fjords can be very very very long... and often they are without wind as well..
    If it’s very windy you can get downward wind bullets upwards 30m/s so be ready for at as well.. you will know when the water starts boiling if you are inside a fjord..
    Hope you enjoy this wonderful place as much as we have been doing...

    • @twospooons
      @twospooons 4 роки тому +9

      +1 on the oysters. You can just walk at the shore line and pick up a bucket in a few minutes. Always check if there is a proper time of year to eat them though. Crabs is probably the laziest of fishing. Put out the traps (just use whatever fish you have left over for bait), come back in a couple of hours = profit. The Norwegian crabs are also amazing.

    • @peter2611
      @peter2611 4 роки тому +7

      Also, make sure to take advantage of what we refer to as “natural harbours”. In its essence it means that you can always find a little island or idyllic location where you are completely protected from the wind and weather no matter how bad it is... What you do is that you go on the leeward side, drop the anchor at your aft and tie your bow into a mountain using a keel/similar with like 5m distance to it. Can also do it opposite with bow anchor and backwards towards the mountain.. but make sure the wind doesn’t change direction during the night then you will be in trouble!
      You can also park your boat against a mountainside, but be careful with waves from other boats especially because you have a sailboat where the mast or keel can hammer into the mountainside..
      The aft/bow methods is the most preferred.
      Also, navionics is really poor on shallow water so just go slow (less than 1knt) and use your sonar. It’s often quite deep close to shore if there is mountains on the island..

      Enjoy this spectular land I call home :-)
      Remember that lobster is restricted in Norway. You have to register with the authorities and it's a very short legal season. The season started today (October 1.) actually. Here are the official rules
      www.fiskeridir.no/Fritidsfiske/Artar/Hummarfiske
      They are in Norwegian of course but Google Translate will probably do a good enough job on it . The site has an English mode but I couldn't find the article in that language.
      TL;DR
      - You have to register (see web page above)
      - You can't catch lobster diving (I know, I am a diver). You have to use lobster pots and there are special rules for those too, like they should be closed with a piece of cotton thread that's guaranteed to rot within a certain time period so if the pot is forgotten or lost then it should open and any lobster caught be able to escape.
      - In your area (Swedish border to Sogn og Fjordane) the season ends November 30.
      - There are minimum sizes, and in some areas there are even maximum sizes. Lobsters have a hockey stick kind of reproductive capacity. The big ones are really productive.
      BTW, there are even restrictions on cod. Not on the west coast though, only in the Oslofjord

    • @jonmagnusaarnes1215
      @jonmagnusaarnes1215 4 роки тому +1

      You are giving them wrong information. Foreigners are not allowed to use nets or traps, only hand held equipment, as they do now. Rules:

    Another great video! Thank you for the effort you clearly put into this! Such a tranquil picturesque landscape, even the night trip in the dinghy looked spectacular, you must have been exhausted by then though! Dan's boat work project was rather smaller scope than I've become used to, though I'm impressed with the draw's organisation :-)! Well done catching the fish, the dinner looked very tasty, I've just eaten and watching this has made me hungry again! Hope you're still having a lovely time in Norway.

      Haha yea the boat work was was meant to be more of a joke than anything serious because we haven’t needed to do any boat work for a while. So when we try to find one, they are quite simple and small and usually we don’t film them but we figured ... why not show an example of a tiny project😂 but not to worry, we have a few Big projects lined up for the coming months ;)

    Dan, as a proud Canadian, you should know that those lure are made to troll slowly, not jigging as you did. You can both trhrow your lines on each side, let the lure sink then let the motor do the pulling slowly, stopping it often. turning around in a big arc, stop, restart. Success garanteed !
    Also, instead of cutting the fish's head, you want to break it's spinal cord with your thumb under it's mouth and push it's head backward.
    Instant death, no suffering, no blood mess.
    As for your boat projects, man, those wood trims NEED sanding and teak oil. They are ruining the look of your awesome boat !
    Hey, cheers from Montréal, Québec ! Love you two. ❤️

    First, I love you guys, your vids are great. Okay, here it is...Dan, Man to Man, Dan to Dan actually, but I digress...Sit ups and push ups, 10 times a day to start and work your way up to 50 each, every day. Really, you wont regret it . I am 67 now, wish I had started earlier. This was a Dad talk from Vancouver Island.

    When you fish, keep your tip down. Below horizontal, closer to the water. When you have a bite, raise the rod to set the hook. Keep the tip up while you reel in the fish so they don't spit the hook.
    Also, set the drag higher so that its not slipping at all while reeling in a lure...

    Hey guys! I really enjoyed the vid. If you go fishing again with those lures- all you have to do is basically drop them in to the bottom, and reel them in very fast! While you're reeling them in- you have to pump the rod at the same time. They're flashy and are made to get reaction bites! For reference just search fast and slow jigging. Kai Ora!

    Content and story are great. In videos like this, where there isn't all that much to show, You still do a great job - that is really hard. Quality of Your footage is outstanding, same for editing.
    Kika is lovely, and it does help, just be mindful of the balance :-)
