I seen the Nighthawks in Winter Park Fla @ the Pitcher House bar w/ Muddy Waters & Gregg showed up & I gotta say it was the best show I ever seen in my life..Thanks for posting.
Things never quite worked out but I have always thought that Allman and Thackery were a very good mix. Thanks for posting this great find Chris Royal. Nice Artwork BTW
Great document to have, though I wonder about the, uhh, "technicalities" of a bootleg. I seen the 'Hawks countless times. I'm an artist and you did fabulous work that's right on in every way. I really dig you getting Jimmy's hat move that used to crack me up every time. I used to have a cassette of one of their New Years Eve shows at the Bayou broadcast on WMAL FM107, I think. I still have a few old ticket stubs. On Friday the 13th of October 1978 I saw the Nighthawks play Mary Washington College's Dodd Auditorium for 3 whole dollars because I was a student (who happened to be studying fine art myself). Those without a student ID had to cough up $4.00 to see the show.
This was right about the time I caught a drunken, probably drugged out GA at a small club outside Birmingham. It was about the end of his misery following the Cher breakup. The show was so bad, I concluded there was only 2 doors, so I left the pain of listening and went around back and waited with a couple journalists and actually got to spend some time chatting with him. Soon, he'd get his act together and Enlightened Rogues followed. Saw the ABB at Freedom Hall in Louisville on kentucky derby eve, promoting said album.
