not only a great surgeon but a great speaker too! a great person !!!! so glad to find your video and to watch it . Im medical student from ALGERIA and your speech inspires me a lot to acheive my dreams thankyou from the deepest of my heart !!!!!!
I'm here as a resident of surgery feeling happy after my last 24hrs shift, because I helped a man with my own hands. That's a beautiful job, I really recommend it - but remember - it is a very demanding job when it comes to your personal life, it demands a lot of devotion.
As a 13 year old who wants to be neurosurgeon such videos gives me a lot of hope. The man is really cool and inspirational. I hope I will live up to the goal which I have kept for myself.
Looked at the list of descriptions of what it's like being a surgeon, and realized that already perfectly describes what it's like being an EMT. The only part that gets me is "dealing with tough people"- I don't mind it from patients, but I hate it when those people are my co-workers at times. Otherwise, that I love being an EMT, specifically for those reasons listed, is a good indication I'll love being a surgeon if I make it...
I take the pleasure to have been a surgeon even with endless days and sleepless nights. Given another life I would still choose to be a surgeon, only a surgeon and a better surgeon.
Before you undergo the long and dreadful path of becoming a physician, I think you should evaluate whether it is actually your dreams or your parents. It will matter a lot during the stressful training moments that inevitably lead to the dreadful question, "Why am I here?" I don't know how I feel about the cliche, "I want to be a doctor because I wanted to ever since I was 4 years old", type of stories. Realistically, a four-year-old doesn't know what a doctor is until their parents put the idea in their head. Often times, it's not that you wanted to become a doctor, but it's that your parents put it in your mind that they want you to become a doctor. There's nothing wrong with it, but I guess it's just one of my pet peeves...
I come from a middle Eastern / Asian household. My parents always had very high expectations of their children. My mother wanted me to be a dentist. I went with it to appease her but I never succeeded. I didn't care about teeth enough to commit to studying towards entering dental school. Now i think of changing careers to study medicine. I think winning my parent's approval is an important factor into my decision but fundamentally, I want to travel to impoverished areas as a doctor and provide healthcare to those who need it the most. I was deeply inspired and moved by David Notts' story. I'm good with my hands, I can draw well and play guitar beautifully. My ambition is to be a surgeon though I'm not sure which specialty. I have yet to even sit the med school entry exam nor apply. But one day I'll make it so I'm a doctor when I'm not too old. I'd have to sacrifice much for this but I want to. I'm eager for my future 😊
Shah Zad Unfortunately, or maybe somewhat fortunately, I was not privileged to have parents that pushed me to do anything prestigious. I decided that I wanted to become a surgeon based on my own intrinsic desire. That has helped me a lot because I actually enjoy what I am doing. I don’t mind the 80-100 hrs a week schedule because I myself has chosen this path. Be careful. The many people that complain are the ones doing surgery for the prestige. There are other fields in medicine. That aren’t as rigorous and even more rewarding ( financially and spiritually). Just make sure you are doing it for the right reason. You’re going to be a doctor! I see you as one. That in itself is impressive. Work hard. You will get it. I believe in you. When you finally do get to that point in your medical career, I trust that you will make the right decision. There is a popular saying that goes, “If you could see yourself doing anything other than surgery, please do that.” I couldn’t and so I am here now. I am happy. Hopefully, you will be too! I hope one day you will be a future colleague!

I'm 16 about to enter senior high school I want to become a Cardiothoracic Surgeon. I just love to help people and be used by God as an instrument to help them. I watched this because I'm doubting myself atm, idk why but I know in my heart I still want to become a Surgeon and help people

@@hamzatariq4037It’s good to have an idea. It’s nice for motivation. and yes, it’s not set in stone obviously. When you go to med school, you’ll do rotations.
I super want to become a surgeon. But evething i have experienced was pretty difficult as well as challenging. I actually feel lost and really need someone give me a hand😶
Totally in love of this video no doubt about that just a small mistake which I just couldn't keep to myself at 2:46 "plain" spelt incorrectly totally understand as 'plane' and 'plain' are homophones. Everyone please have a good day and Thank You.
As a Romanian, I can attest that our medical school is way superior to many. Greek , Iranian and many young guys are coming and study in RO. I can trust with my life any doctor there . Si acum, sa vorbim serious domnule doctor, engleza mai trebuie lucrata. Nu se spune “ any mistake I could do” Cu “ any mistake I could make”. Multi dinette “ Citate” le-am recunoscut din speak-urile altora de aici din US. Nothing wrong, I understand. Iar modestia, v-a dat afara de pe scena. Just kidding. Love ya
