I don't think this was mentioned, but the post-humous album of Jonghyun, Poet | Artist, was released by SM and all proceeds went to Jonghyun's mom and sister. The two of them used the proceeds to put up an insititution meant to support artists who are struggling with their mental health. It's called the Shiny Foundation. I believe that income from Jonghyun's songs also go to this currently. ❤
I think the reason why SM lets SHINee have control is because each member is very dedicated to it. They put in all effort to be able to given the trust. Key said he even made powerpoint presentations and discussed his concept to the management. Complete with material sourcing, costs, etc. The trust was not handed to them, they earned it.
1:44:55 SHINee actually accidentally started the SM Halloween Party tradition, by turning up one year all dressed up, when absolutely no one else was 😂😂😂😂 It was then decided to be a yearly costume party.
52:45 the Jonghyun album that was released after his passing was one he made and was pretty much ready to release. All proceeds from songs made by Jonghyun go to a charity called The shiny foundation that was started by Jonghyun's family, it supports struggling artists, all the SHINee members also work with the foundation and are still very close with Jonghyun's family. Whenever you stream one of Jonghyun's songs or a song written or composed by him, you are contributing to the charity.
1:17:24 just an FYI, since this guide was released Minho has released his first album called Chase (and in doing that, he competed SHINee's plagiarism series where all of their debut albums are connected). He's also releasing his first full album next month, making SHINee the first SM group where all members have full solo albums (might also be the first group in kpop...).
12:07 nope, they actually released 5 separate albums in 2013, it was a crazy year... some of the albums were Japanese but with original Japanese songs...
About the title of Princes of Kpop, during 2n gen several groups received official titles, TVXQ were the emperors of kpop, BoA is the Queen of kpop, Bigbang were named the kings of kpop and SHINee were named the princes of kpop (partly due to their young ages at the time). Over the years many fandoms tried to claim the titles of kings and Queens of kpop to THEIR groups but those were never official titles (including EXO, vocal kings is a fandom given nickname, not one given by the industry) but SHINee are undisputedly the ONLY princes of kpop, they are the only ones to hold the title.
@@Ofra8191- yeah , I am just telling you the officially given one as you said they don't have one..if tvxq was still ot5 ..they would have gotten that title eventually
Yes, same as idol of idol for Taemin, I hate how so many fans like to say he isn't and call their faves that(which I get there can be multiple idol of idols). But Taemin has been given that title for many years by other idols, celebs, and korean Media. Either idol of idols or one of the biggest role models for the younger gen
01:01:14 we who deal with depression, we are not always sad, is more like being empty. Sometimes we just feel nothing and this is the worst thing ever. It's worst when we are alone. People always think that being depressive is being all the time sad and looking down. We are indeed very normal hahahah It' okay is just a misunderstanding. We usually are the ones hyping people up actually, despite our pain. Jonghyun talked openly about his seasonal depression (there ar videos of him specially on his radio show), which i think is so important and was very brave of him. I love when an artist can talk about it (no one HAS to, but is good when they can do it). I have Sunmi who, like me, has borderline desorder and talked about it, even has a soong called Borderline. I always feel good and understood when listening to some of her songs and also Jjong's songs. It's cool all the songs dedicated to us and we are not a toxic fandom.
1:31:37 SHINee FOUGHT fir every scrap of control they had, they MADE SM give it to them and they refused to hear no for an answer, and with every contract renewal they got even more. We know that in SHINee's current group contract they are the ones benefiting more, they are also the group that earned the most per member this year and that's just as a group, not included solo work, and without even having a comeback this year...
Absolutely correct. SHINee have never been pushovers. They have always told it like it is, stayed steadfast and firm. Just because they are known as the kindest group in Kpop doesn't mean you can walk all over them. That's part of the reason why we love them so.
1:17:04 it's a running joke in the industry that SHINee and Shawols are married to each other, because we are so supportive and loyal to one another, other idols even commented on it multiple times, about how amazing Shawols are as a fandom.
Thank you for your reactions 😊 For the "Taemin couldn't sing" part or "Tone deaf", you have to remember he was only 14 when he made his debut with SHINee, basically he was just going through puberty before and after debuting (Trainee at 11 years old). SM didn't care about improving his voice (they literally told him that his voice shouldn’t stand out after they took his parts off Replay). They went so far as to prohibit him from singing, he could just “sat in” during the voice lessons. After debuting, he was really frustrated and dedicated himself tirelessly to vocal training, often staying until sunrise in the SM Entertainment practice room after schedules. Onew and Jonghyun also took on the role of giving him vocal lessons before and after their debut. All those facts were given by Taemin, Onew, Jonghyun and witnesses of that period.
This! He actually isn't gone deaf, it's him being in puberty, his voice type & condition that makes it harder to train, and the almost nonexistent vocal training from SM
SHINee's military uniforms in their "Everybody" comeback are supposed to make them look like toy soldiers who are modeled after soldiers in the Korean War in the 1950s. At one point in the choreography we see them come together as a group and create a plane with their bodies, which is supposed to be telling a story of a battle during the Korean War. Therefore, their outfits are modernized vintage style uniforms, and are very much on brand for the time period they are depicting.
Emperors of kpop is tvxq if im not mistaken? Kings of kpop always changes. Thats why I like the princes of kpop title. It was SHINee since 2nd gen, still is and will always be SHINee. Also unlike newer gen stans who doesnt like girl with their idols, shawols are the opposite. Maybe because SHINee already have a love interest at debut. SHINee conditioned us early on. 🤣 we love them, We even prefer their girl gangs than their male dancers most of the time. hahah DCM is funny since groups coming back from military release touchy feely music and SHINee was like "sick of all your trash dont call me"
01:41:27 SHINee will always be relevant, they have stagnated at the top and no one is able to take them out of there, they were the 2nd generation group with the highest brand value in the year 2024, in 6 of the 10 monthly rankings so far (October) they entered the top10, and in 3 cases they entered the top3, ahead of groups seen as more popular or the most recent, a survey was carried out of the most profitable groups from 2018-2020 (SHINee's hiatus period), and they were one of the groups who generated the most profit for SM during this period, without a single comeback for 3 years, practically all 3rd-5th generation Kpop groups have at least member who were inspired to become idols by them, and i'm not even joking, their latest comebacks broke records that new groups in the mainstream era couldn't, they are unattainable and timeless. *The Princes Of Kpop for a reason*
22:25 actually minho enlisted into the marines which is like known to have some of the most intense training of all the units bc he wanted to challenge himself 😅 they had him jumping out of planes n shit 1:24:50 actually im pretty sure sm purposefully didnt want him to sing bc he was still going through puberty at the time and they didnt wanna harm his voice! 1:26:50 shinee actually didnt get their official lightstick (that you see the most often) until 2018 ! before that they had concert or tour specific lightsticks that had a lot of different designs
SHINee's Japanese albums actually have very few covers of their Korean songs! ETA: Onew wrote and produced his latest mini album 'Flow'. And Minho drops his first FULL album 'Call Back' Nov 5!!!
56:22 there were completely different lyrics to the song View, Jonghyun wrote completely new lyrics based on is idea of love experienced through synesthesia and they switched them.
Actually, Jjong's last album, POET | ARTIST, was announced before his death...he performed a few of the songs live, and announced the release himself in the last day of his concert (though eerily enough, he was supposed to announce the date as well, it was all finalized as first week of Jan...but he didn't, probably because he knew it might get delayed). Though there were talks of not releasing it at all, Jjong's family ended up decided to release it as decided for the fans as it is what he wanted. A lot of the song is about his struggle with mental health and suicidal ideation There are many songs with jjong's vocals, but they have not released a single one other than Lock You Down on their 10th anniversary.
Thanks for this reaction! In SHINee, we stan! 🫡 such an amazing group. They've worked so hard and earned all the accolades, trust, creative control, etc. They've come so far, from walking down the street handing out candy to random people to promote their debut album to now still breaking records this long into their career. They're really good humans with how much people look up to them and how much staff, family, friends, fans, etc say they're genuinely nice and caring people. SHINee don't need to have 3 comebacks a year to make a lot of money. But they still take all our money. 😂We just had back to back to back solo releases with Taemin's Eternal, Onew's Flow, Key's Pleasure Shop and now Minho coming out with his first full album Call Back on Nov 4! That on top of all the concerts and fancons back to back. Each member is so busy its hard to keep track!! I really do love how involved they are in their work as a group and solo. Jonghyun has the most writing and composition credits for all artists out of the members, but Minho technically has the most writing credits for SHINee. Minho already had rap writing credits for several songs on their debut album which was pretty rare at the time, and still kinda is. All the members lyrics are so good though, very. For Minho's first mini album Chase, he even wrote the storyline for the MV, and took part in directing it and the editing feedback for it. I can't wait to see what he's done with his upcoming one! Even if SM doesn't let them do certain things, they still try their best to get as much as they want. Onew supposedly had to pay out of pocket for being able to film behind the scenes footage for Dice (I think) because SM wouldn't. Key gets into debates with the company a lot to let them do his concepts. Even with how much creative they seem to have, they still have to fight for it at times to this day. The SHINee members have said though that they don't do things they don't want to do, so I guess there's that reassurance that at least they're not forced to do stuff. Anyway, looking forward to more SHINee from you guys! Everytime I hear "Baby shawol" now I think of the time for like their 14th anniversary, Key said he thought that term meant like literal babies 👶🏻 and not new fans 😅
Thank you so much for your reaction to this guide, you didn't mention it here, but there are guides for each SHINee member where they delve deeper into their personal life and also their artistic growth, touching on more details
SHINee are so special to me 🥺 I've loved them for more than a decade, which is almost half of my life, and I have never loved anyone more and as much as I love them. I'm so glad there are people who are just discovering them and their music. They're such an amazing, talented, and sweet individuals, and they deserve all the love and support in the world. I definitely will be following your journey of getting to know SHINee ♥
shinee as a whole is such an inspiration to so many idols! touching on your mention of ni-ki from enhypen, he was a shinee kid as little key during one of their japan concert segments in 2016-2017 and key remembered him after enhypen's debut after so many years!
Yes, SHINee are very popular in Japan and they have a very big Japanese discography. For every Korean album they have an equal and separate Japanese album, including the members solo albums. And most of the time they don't just remake their Korean songs into Japanese versions, but a large majority of their songs are Japanese exclusive songs that only have Japanese versions and they were specifically created for their Japanese fans. All the members of SHINee are fluent in Japanese, so when they hold a concert in Japan the entire concert is in Japanese, including the parts where they talk to and interact with the audience. (They joke that Taemin speaks Japanese even better than he does Korean.) Early on, SM realized that if they wanted their artists to make it big in Japan they needed to be fluent in Japanese and they had to embrace the Japanese culture, so most of SM's Kpop artists who are really big in Japan, such as BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior-D&E, SHINee, etc. spend about 50% of their careers holding concerts and promoting in Japan. I mean, when BoA debuted SM sent her to live in Japan for several months when she was only 14 or 15 years old in order for her to become fully acclimated to the Japanese language and culture, which is why she is one of the biggest solo artists in Japan and one of the very first Kpop artists to make it big in Japan. Most Japanese people don't even consider SHINee, BoA or TVXQ, etc. to be foreign artists. And in most cases, they are more popular than Japanese singers.
So happy that you choose the longer guide. Thanks Minho and Lee Minhyuk(btob) are amazing athletes hahahahhah they are good good. And Minho is really competitive. About being underrated or not, the thing is our point of view. Some groups like Shinee, EXO and Btob they are not promoted in western countries. And still are famous outise of Korea, this says a lot. I think that is crazy how big they are even outside Asia. Their companies never promoted they outside Asia. They just have concerts in asian countries. And this is changing slowly, specially with the members getting out of these companies, KCON and some festivals.. They are huge in asian countries.
In fact, it's really terrible that idols behave so brightly and smilingly on stage and in off-screen shooting, but when they're at home alone, they have dark thoughts. That way, we'll never know what's behind any idols. I remember one idol from the boys on one show said that he began to pretend to be someone else to please people, and he lost his identity. Now he does not know who he is. It made me cry. And Moonbin, who did not tell anyone about his illness and died alone at home, while other members were away 😢
Yes, when Taemin debuted as a member of SHINee way back in 2008, he didn't have a whole lot of lines in their songs. People even used to make fun of his singing and they would say that he was tone deaf and couldn't sing. However, it's sort of a misconception that Taemin "couldn't sing." As you can see, it wasn't that he couldn't sing, it was just that he debuted when he was so young -- he was only 14 years old -- that his voice hadn't really developed yet and he didn't really have a good grasp of how to use his voice and produce the sounds he wanted with it. So, in the beginning, when he sang, he was often flat or his voice cracked or he was off key or out of tune, etc. And because he was being compared to the other members of SHINee who are all 2 to 4 years older than him, and the other members had such phenomenal voices to start out with, it really made Taemin sound like he was lacking. That's why in SHINee's first few songs he only has a few lines, and most of the time he was just given big solo dance breaks to fill the stage at his parts in the song. However, if he was really tone deaf, he never would have become an SM Idol trainee -- SM would have put him on the dance track and probably steered him toward becoming a backup dancer -- and he definitely would have never become the amazing singer that he is today. As you alluded to, someone who is truly tone deaf is physically unable to hear the difference in the notes and is unable to carry a tune. But Taemin really wanted to prove to everyone that he wasn't just a dancer, so he spent a lot of extra time concentrating on vocal lessons and the other SHINee members -- especially Onew and Jonghyun (two of the best vocalists in the industry) -- spent some serious time coaching and mentoring him until he learned what it took to match their vocal range and to use his voice. (For the first year or more after SHINee's debut Taemin spent hours in vocal lessons and he would push himself every day until his nose would bleed because he was so tired and worn out, etc. He practically lived in the training rooms at SM Entertainment.) That's why he improved so quickly. Within about a year of their debut he was starting to be given more and more of the main vocal parts in SHINee's songs, and within 5 years he was considered one of SHINee's main vocalists. He now is the one that most often takes over Jonghyun's main vocal parts in SHINee's songs. You may even notice that Taemin sounds a lot like Jonghyun, especially in SHINee's songs, because Jonghyun was the one who took Taemin under his wing and really taught Taemin how to sing. Jonghyun was one of Taemin's biggest supporters and champions. The ONLY thing the members of SHINee are not good at is lip syncing, so Taemin, and all the members of SHINee, have specifically trained since their debut, to build stamina and endurance, in order to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight in concert, all while performing intense choreographies and still sound flawless. When you watch a live performance, you may be shocked because Taemin and SHINee sound so perfect live even though they are dancing so intensely, but that is why they are so highly respected by everyone. Other Idols and audio sound technicians, etc. who have witnessed the SHINee members performing live are always blown away, because in the parts of the song where most singers would take a break and rely on the backing track vocals to cover their voices so they can catch their breath and recover, this is where the SHINee members actually ramp it up and become their most powerful. Therefore, in SHINee's live performance they are almost always singing live all while dancing full out. What makes SHINee so great is that even if they are singing acapella while performing high energy choreography, they sound just as amazing. That's why, even as rookies, senior artists would stop what they were doing to watch SHINee's rehearsals on music programs because SHINee's vocal talent is that impressive. When SHINee debuted, they were the first group to demonstrate how it was possible to sing live while performing complex choreography and still maintain stable vocals. Before SHINee, the thought within the industry was that it wasn't possible to sing live and also perform high intensity choreography at the same time. At that time, most groups would either sing live and have simple choreography, or they would have crazy cool choreography, but lip sync to their recorded vocals. SHINee completely changed the Kpop industry and upped the standard of what it meant to be an idol singer.
fun fact all this SM Halloween party have start because of SHINee same for the Video Dancing performance that you see groupe do now, have start with SHINee (SHINee are like the Pilar of Kpop they have start or creat almost everything you see right now in kpop with few other of 2nd gen) , (& a lot of new kpop fan who know only BTS & don't want to learn more about other ,a lot of them try to take SHINee down (& some other old groupe too & disrespecting them), saying SHINee copy BTS or are not good, when SHINee have done nothing wrong , but they do this cause they see that SHINee are still praize by media & other artist & they don't like it, it's a fact of course not all of the BTS fans are like that but a huge part are (they're known to be one of the most toxic fandom & are even proud of it so ) anyway , it's being 15 years that i'm in the kpop world i know almost all the groupes ,i saw everyone debuting & back then it was really less toxic than now, sadely, Anyway. by the way V is one of their fan. Taemin is known to be the dancing king in kpop & the MJ of Korea, Jonghyun to be one of the most beautiful voice in korea. Onew have such a powerful voice too , Key the stylist & mom of the groupe also so talented & Minho the Heart of Shinee really talented as well .(their fandom is also know to be one of the healthiest in kpop) SHINee will always be 5
I went to their Tokyo Dome concert this year, 2 nights with 55k people each. Their Korean concerts also sold out including their encore with Onew. They have one of the most loyal fandoms and because their fandom is mostly adult women, they're also considered major best sellers-- meaning any concert, merch, etc. They release will sell out immediately. People often joke that shawols are just rich (in my case I am just financially irresponsible 😂) They are big money makers for SM despite having what others consider a "smaller" fandom. I was also lucky to see them at Kpoplux here in Europe, and the whole football stadium was having a meltdown over their performance, even the fans from the younger groups. I think they also have a lot of casual fans that are able to recognize their legend status, and will show up to support them. Re: comments on depression, as someone with depression: people with depression tend to feel EVERYTHING deeply, so when you say Jonghyun seemed so happy, he most likely was! And he felt that so deeply, that's why the sadder moments are sadder. When you are depressed, those little moments of high feel so high that the lows feel very low. That's why, unfortunately, if you are stuck in a low for an extended period of time, it can end badly. I know it is hard to comprehend for someone who has never been through it but I hope it explains it a little better
Actually, Shinee became very famous right after their debut stage (despite no pre debut promotion at all from SM) which is super rare. They'd already gained international fans prior to Lucifer release in 2010. But then Lucifer made them even more famous, and became the game changer in choreo due to it's difficult and synchronized nature. I've already a shawol in 2010, and I remember so many countries held a special dance class for Lucifer. US fans was the luckiest since Lucifer choreograper Rino Nakasone taught the classes there. In 2011, Shinee became the 1st asian artist who performed live and recorded song in Abbey Road Studios, there were so many local fans gathered to see them outside the studio even the CEO of Abbey Road Studios said that it was the 1st time he saw so many people gathered outside the studio that he thought The Beatles had come back.
Onew, when pronounced correctly as On-New with a Korean accent, sounds nothing like onions. Onew in Korean sounds like a combination of the Korean characters (i.e. words) for soft and gentle. Therefore, Lee JinKi was given the stage name Onew because he has a soft and gentle personality. It has nothing to do with onions, and I think you are probably the first person to ever connect the word onions to Onew. Why would there be a meme about Onew and onions? LOL
SHINee started having some artistic input as early as 2009 with "Juliette." Jonghyun wrote the lyrics for the sample and SM produced it. From then on, their artistic control grew, little by little, until 2015 when they basically were working in tandem with their SM teams. This was very unusual in Kpop companies. Where SM failed SHINee was in marketing promotions, as has been their failing with every group under them. SM has a habit of always throwing promotions at the "newest" act they come up with and neglecting their founding groups. Many don't realize that even though they had an established powerhouse with SHINee -- especially with the many trends and firsts SHINee created to advance Kpop to where it is today -- they were shelved in favor of newer groups with fresh faces. All the while, SHINee were mentoring the said "newer, fresh faces" like EXO and NCT. All of whom were also abandoned with the advent of newer, younger groups. It's as if SM was just out hunting for the "IT" group when they already had them in their dusty closet. This is why I believe there has been such an exodus from SM by some of their biggest artists. They had been stymied and the choice was leave SM and try to make it on their own, or stay and get few opportunities to grow. Let's take Taemin for instance. From the get go, due to his young age and lauded as a "beautiful" and "cute" kid, he was extremely s3xua1ized by the industry. He was constantly being dressed in girls clothing, given hair extensions, etc. Despite the fact that he kept stressing that he was a MAN, this was never-ending. Taemin, as a young, pr3pub3sc3nt boy wanted none of it, and it messed with his head. Even his SHINee brothers were noticing how badly it was affecting Taemin so they tried to protect him as much as possible. Jonghyun finally addressed the situation by writing Taemin's solo song, "Pretty Boy". The key lyrics state: "I am more than the perceptions in your head." Then along comes "Move". Taemin stated in several interviews/magazines that the reason he wanted to do an androgynous concept was two-fold: 1) For him, dancing was a verb; there was no g3nder involved in dancing. Both s3xes should be able to perform the same movements without classification/segregation. 2) At that time, it was extremely unusual to see both genders dancing together due to cultural norms. Men and women Kpop groups are usually segregated, and rarely performed together. To Taemin this was illogical. So, being him and being a part of SHINee, who had integrated both, there was no reason not to have women back up dancers to highlight his point that dancing is a unisex activity and enhanced the performance rather than detracted from it. This is what made "Move" a pivotal moment in Kpop history. It went viral, and Taemin simultaneously smashed two cultural barriers with one "move". "Move" set the stage for Taemin's rise to fame. It was at this point that, although he had been trying since boyhood to prove that he was a man, he realized that he could be pretty, svelte, and have his dancer's body without threatening his masculinity. No one cared. In fact, being an opportunist, Taemin embraced it and ran with it as his signature look and concept. I mean, why wouldn't you. So at that point, SM has one of their biggest solo stars, and he is getting no promotions, no marketing, and worse of all, no world tour. Taemin had been begging for a world tour for some time. SHINee fans were demanding a SHINee and Taemin world tour for some time. Meanwhile other SM groups were being sent overseas. This means a tour to America and Europe. Crickets. It makes no sense. Now, ALL the SHINee members are fantastic with their solo careers, and they put on quite a show. However, Taemin is a BEAST live. Seeing him in concert is a dream of many, myself included. Taemin works intricately with the crew to make sure his concerts are perfect stage performances of what he envisions in his mind. Here are some examples of how inventive he can get with his performances: "Door"; The First Tour, Budokan, 2017: ua-cam.com/video/GU22bs5cg5A/v-deo.html "Soldier+Rise"; Sirius Concert, 2018: ua-cam.com/video/Pm6Ab2T5buo/v-deo.html (Taemin wrote "Soldier"; just an intro here) "Identity"; T1001101 Concert, 2019: ua-cam.com/video/EWzMMlCS9_U/v-deo.html "Heaven"; Beyond Live NGDA Concert, 2021: ua-cam.com/video/Gi4jAxsk55g/v-deo.html (Utilizing Taemin's custom 3-tiered, slope-lift stage.) "The Rizzness"; "Metamorph" Concert, 2023: ua-cam.com/video/h5aSAF4RUM0/v-deo.html (I'll let the fancam explain it all. Suffice it to say, we were all terrified for Taemin's safety! But, then again, Taemin likes to push the boundaries.) "Criminal"; Metamorph Concert, 2023: ua-cam.com/video/KsjO2DE7MtE/v-deo.html (Yeah, no denying his masculinity in this one. This was also his last solo concert for SM. He gave it his all.) "Guilty"; Metamorph Concert, 2023: ua-cam.com/video/X5iv8gGJavc/v-deo.html After being with SM for SHINee for 16 years and just shy of 10 years as a soloist with them (their very first soloist from an active boy group, btw), Metamorph was Taemin's last work with SM Entertainment. He then transitioned to BPM for all his solo work, but still remained with SM for SHINee group work. Within just a few weeks of being with BPM, he held a fan meeting; traveled to award shows and other venues performing and promoting his Guilty album, and it was announced that Taemin would finally get his wish for a world Tour, imagine that. He released his first mini-album, "Eternal", under BPM a few wees later for which he has composing credits for each song and wrote two of the six songs. After "Eternal's" release, he started the first leg of his much anticipated world tour, entitled Ephemeral Gaze. You can see Taemin's fingerprints in every aspect of this concert. Here's a peak at the three opening songs of the concert (all fancams so should be safe): "Deja Vu" (written by Taemin); "Guilty", and "Advice": ua-cam.com/video/0PHURCx0YR0/v-deo.html I suggest watching the entire concert (it's on YT), but if I had to choose one more song, the only other performance I would love you to see is his revised "Heaven" performance. Taemin rearranged the score to add more orchestral music and renewed the entire performance. It's absolutely stunning: ua-cam.com/video/JoGkldI1nuc/v-deo.html Enjoy!
To be fair, one of the reasons why Taemin and Onew are doing so much more promoting and activities than they were when they were exclusively with SM is because they are now with really small companies and no longer have the financial backing of SM to fall back on. Taemin and Onew are now one of the biggest artists with Big Planet Made and Griffin Entertainment, respectively, so they need to be doing as much as they can to make a name for themselves and to make money in order to make their new found independence financially viable. Under SM, the company has enough money and power that their groups promote themselves by name alone, so they don't have to put a lot of extra time and money behind promotions. It actually makes more sense that SM would promote their newer groups more because they are trying to get their names and faces out there. Once a group becomes well-known and popular, they promote themselves and make the company money with minimal effort. Hence, why SM groups are still some of the most popular and highest money-makers in the industry even without a whole lot of promotions. And that's not exclusively an SM thing, all companies put more money and effort behind promoting their rookie new groups than they do their older groups. Look at any company, they are always looking for the newest and brightest thing, and their older groups are left to fend for themselves. The company puts their time and effort into teaching and supporting their rookies in order to establish them in the industry, and once they have given them all the tools they need to make it, the group is then expected to take what they have learned and forge their own path. That's why groups and artists decide to not renew their contract or change companies all the time. A different company or situation may give them different opportunities. Just because you decide to leave a company doesn't necessarily mean they have done anything wrong. As both Onew and Taemin have said, they felt they were becoming too complacent and stuck after being with the same company for 16 years and they decided to do something different to allow them to see what the change would do for them creatively. They just needed a fresh start. Same goes for all the Kpop idols who have ever left their original companies to move to smaller companies or become independent heads of their own companies, etc. Those groups and idols are more active and are able to pursue all those things they couldn't do with their old company because they chose to move to the new company where they were no longer competing for time and resources with all the other people. However, they also need to be more active and do those things they may not have had to do when with their original company because they now have more financial obligations and have to prove themselves all over again, etc. It may seem like those big companies are neglectful or have no idea what they had until they are gone, but I think the decisions companies like SM make, are very strategic and all part of what it means to be a cooperation that commands top billing with everything they do. If they really did everything we fans wish they would do, they wouldn't be in the position they are today. There's more going on behind the scenes than we fans realize.
shinee aren't underrated, shawol just don't care as much about views/streams so their popularity tends to go under the radar for people new to the kpop scene that seems to think the world runs off who has the most views now
Minhoo is my favorite in SHINee. Because of Minhoo I knew about kpop . Minhoo is the first person I knew in kpop . Minhoo is so athletic. I love him so much ❤❤❤. Love from bangladesh 🇧🇩
Just started watching You I appreciate Your time to Shinee. I am definitely a huge dedicated Shawol. Taemin bias. But””. I love them all so much. Shinee forever 5 💎💎💎💎💎 They are brilliant talented and creative. Their live shows and solo performances are just phenomenal! One of a kind 💎💎💎💎💎
Yayy thank you for reacting to this guide!! Jjong actually created a lot in his short time as a solo artist, he's actually my favourite solo artist out of shinee (and maybe all kpop) 💎 there something so masterful and playful in his work, and so incredibly authentic feeling ❤ his voice and works are by far the most fun to listen to for me (except maybe all of Shinee together 😚) Ps. I think tvxq were the emperors, Big Bang the kings, and Shinee the Princes of kpop. These were based on their influence and also age, bc Shine debuted as such tiny babies lmao. These were industry-given names in 2nd gen, rather than fan-given, like groups like Exo (no shade, i love them too, just the lore haha)
Compared to other groups in SM , SM debuted shinee with image of self producing idols with Jonghyun at front line who was exceptional..while other SM groups like exo on wards were given a storyline ,concept and sound so SM were more strict on them regarding taking their works if that didn't suit their view for the group as whole..and during the TVXQ lawsuit ..it was shown that any songs even if written by the members or composed are owned by SM still and not the members, idk if that contract changed after the lawsuit but yeah...SM knows how to pick thier idols and have a slave contract....
Hi glad you like the watch haha. It's a Casio a158w. You can buy it in a lot of places rather cheaply, and it lasts a super long time. I really like it and definitely recommend it.
As you saw at Taemin's solo concert, the audience only has plain stick lights.* (SHINee didn't get their official diamond lightstick that everyone has now, until 2018 during their 10th anniversary promotions.) And, in some performances, you might see that SHINee's fans have green glow sticks because, before battery-powered lights were a thing, fans brought or were given glow sticks in the group's color. (Before LED lights were invented, creating a wider range of colors -- making way for SHINee's official Pearl Aqua color -- they used green or regular blue to represent SHINee. Therefore you will still see green and blue and aqua colors being used in things to do with SHINee, as well as all the members solo content.) *You have to remember that SHINee debuted in 2008 during second generation, which was the Kpop era when everything you think of as part of Kpop today was being invented, so fan culture was way different back then. As you are discovering with this guide, SHINee were one of the very first groups to either invent or start the trend with almost everything within the Kpop and entertainment industry, so you can't expect things to always be like 3rd, 4th and 5th gen. groups. There has to be a starting point. SHINee's official lightstick is shaped like a diamond, and if you hold it up to a solid surface and look at the reflection the diamond makes, you will see a 5 point star to represent the 5 members of SHINee. SHINee's symbol is a diamond because they SHINe(e) like diamonds and it lights up an aqua blue/teal color because pearl aqua is SHINee's fan color. Most lightsticks are primarily one color -- whatever color represents the group. For example, Super Junior's lightstick lights up their sapphire pearl blue color and it has their S-diamond shape on top. Mamamoo's lightstick is shaped like a green and white radish because moo sounds like the Korean word for radish. BigBang's lightstick is yellow and it has a crown on top because BigBang are known as The Kings of Kpop. BTS' lightstick is the ARMY bomb so it looks like a TNT-type bomb and it lights up purple. BlackPink has a pink hammer. Stray Kids' lightstick has a red and silver compass symbol on top and it glows red because their official color is red, etc. Another fun thing about lightsticks, is that most of the newer versions are controlled by bluetooth, so at events the lighting technicians can make it flash and pulse to the music however and whenever they want. Which makes fans even more a part of the show. And a few lightsticks, like EXO's lightstick, are multi-colored. EXO's lightstick has the EXO hexagon symbol on top and it says EXO in the middle. EXO's official color is Cosmic Latte (tan/silver), however, each of the 9 EXO members also have their own official color. Therefore, often when specific members are performing on stage, the lighting technicians will change all the lightsticks to whatever color coincides with that member, or make it flash or pulse multiple colors to the beat of the music, etc. Some group's lightsticks aren't even sticks, but they are bracelets or watch-style lights that you can wear. It all depends on the group. And some groups that have been around a long time, or whose company likes to continuously come out with new merchandise, have multiple versions of lightsticks. Each are very unique and specific to the group. And even before glow sticks were a thing, fans would all wave a balloon that was the color of their group. The disadvantage to waving balloons was that the artists on stage couldn't see the balloons when the lights were off, which is one of the reasons why they now have lightsticks. Fun fact: G-Dragon, BigBang's leader, was the one who came up with the idea for the first lightsticks, because he wanted to be able to see and identify all of the VIPs (BigBang's fans) in the audience. During award shows and events where multiple groups are present, the group's lightsticks and balloons are, and were, an important way for fans to show their support for their group and to tell everyone around them who they are there to see, etc.
Thank you for your reaction to SHINee!🩵 Please react to their solo song! Taemin - sexy in the air (reaction thank you!) Onew - beat drum Key - Pleasure shop Minho - 24.11.04 coming soon!
End of a day was one of my favourite song But i can't heard that song again, iam to afraid to listening that song . Same with breath by Lee hi but not now Sometimes i play jonghyun songs but volume off. Listening to his songs bring me back to the era so i can't. I am not shawol but yeah Everybody loves shinee
Actually, all the members of SHINee are considered the main vocalists now, as well as rappers and dancers. SHINee is the one group that is recognized for the fact that they no longer have any fixed roles in the group. And that's a widely agreed upon fact given by industry experts, not just a fans opinion. Back when SHINee debuted, it wasn't very common for there to be more than one Main for every position in a group. Therefore, because Jonghyun was literally one of of the best vocalists of his generation, that automatically made him the main vocalist, which meant all other members were given the lead or sub position. But it wasn't long after debut that everyone realized that SHINee had superior abilities in all facets of the industry, so their position titles were reevaluated. They all have the title of Main vocalist now. That is why any of the members can cover any of Jonghyun's parts effortlessly and the song still sounds just as good. That doesn't mean Jonghyun's voice isn't missed, after all Jonghyun always added his own unique flare to the song, but it just shows how talented all the members are. To be fair, SHINee's songs are always better with all 5 voices, but if they weren't all main vocalists they wouldn't be able to perform SHINee's songs without Jonghyun and still maintain that signature SHINee sound. Also, Onew most definitely is/was a main vocalist. He was one of only two people to ever be selected by Lee SooMan himself to join SM and he was chosen for his outstanding vocal abilities at age 16/17. That is why he was a vocal coach to a lot of traninees when he was still only a rookie and why he is considered one of the most agile voices in the world of Kpop that most vocal coaches use as an example of what you need to try to emulate if you want to be a great singer. Jonghyun wasn't the only main vocalist in SHINee. Also, Taemin wouldn't have been the one to cover the majority of Jonghyun's lines in any of SHINee's songs, or have been one of the first SM idols who was part of an active group to go solo, if he wasn't also a main vocalist, etc.

Guys can you react to epik high’s “screen time” ft hoshi of seventeen ❤❤❤
And also they are super determined and not afraid in pushing their ideas to create the art they want...
1:44:55 SHINee actually accidentally started the SM Halloween Party tradition, by turning up one year all dressed up, when absolutely no one else was 😂😂😂😂 It was then decided to be a yearly costume party.
1:18:26 all the members of SHINee actually have Master degrees.
Long ago, a music critic has said that SHINee has gone beyond a kpop idol group, they are a brand of their own.
1:20:23 Minho is seriously a man written by a woman, he is so perfect, and we'd all HATE him for it if he wasn't just so God darn NICE...
Exo had the nation's pick boy group.
@@ahgacababeumetiny-Lshawol Yes, but the "vocal kings" title isn't an official one, it's a fandom given one.
@maggot2259 for Taemin, it's an actual official title given to him by the industry. He's introduced as such in official settings.
shinee are the reason sm started having the halloween parties!

@@Saddlemomma definitely
1:17:04 it's a running joke in the industry that SHINee and Shawols are married to each other, because we are so supportive and loyal to one another, other idols even commented on it multiple times, about how amazing Shawols are as a fandom.
Thank you for your reactions 😊
For the "Taemin couldn't sing" part or "Tone deaf", you have to remember he was only 14 when he made his debut with SHINee, basically he was just going through puberty before and after debuting (Trainee at 11 years old).
🤣 we love them, We even prefer their girl gangs than their male dancers most of the time. hahah
DCM is funny since groups coming back from military release touchy feely music and SHINee was like "sick of all your trash dont call me"
01:41:27 SHINee will always be relevant, they have stagnated at the top and no one is able to take them out of there, they were the 2nd generation group with the highest brand value in the year 2024, in 6 of the 10 monthly rankings so far (October) they entered the top10, and in 3 cases they entered the top3, ahead of groups seen as more popular or the most recent, a survey was carried out of the most profitable groups from 2018-2020 (SHINee's hiatus period), and they were one of the groups who generated the most profit for SM during this period, without a single comeback for 3 years, practically all 3rd-5th generation Kpop groups have at least member who were inspired to become idols by them, and i'm not even joking, their latest comebacks broke records that new groups in the mainstream era couldn't, they are unattainable and timeless.
*The Princes Of Kpop for a reason*
22:25 actually minho enlisted into the marines which is like known to have some of the most intense training of all the units bc he wanted to challenge himself 😅 they had him jumping out of planes n shit
1:24:50 actually im pretty sure sm purposefully didnt want him to sing bc he was still going through puberty at the time and they didnt wanna harm his voice!
47:29 Onew means tofu in Korean, and believe me, there ARE memes about THAT...
11:33 The expensive part was Tony Tesla. Michael Jackson's choreographer.
A lot of the song is about his struggle with mental health and suicidal ideation
There are many songs with jjong's vocals, but they have not released a single one other than Lock You Down on their 10th anniversary.
Taemin was 14 and his voice was still cracking. It is insane to ask great vocals from a 14 year old. Not even Dimash.
shinee as a whole is such an inspiration to so many idols! touching on your mention of ni-ki from enhypen, he was a shinee kid as little key during one of their japan concert segments in 2016-2017 and key remembered him after enhypen's debut after so many years!
Wooow, that's so cool! We had no idea that their history went that deep.
Oh my God.. Thank you so much for reacting this ❤
I'm loving following your journey getting to know Shinee better!
(They joke that Taemin speaks Japanese even better than he does Korean.)
Early on, SM realized that if they wanted their artists to make it big in Japan they needed to be fluent in Japanese and they had to embrace the Japanese culture, so most of SM's Kpop artists who are really big in Japan, such as BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior-D&E, SHINee, etc. spend about 50% of their careers holding concerts and promoting in Japan.
YES!! Finally, i'm so happy to see this videos, let's spread SHINee to the world! 🛐🛐💎
In the beginning you said very meaningful words-their music is timeless, that is how I feel as well.
So happy that you choose the longer guide. Thanks
Minho and Lee Minhyuk(btob) are amazing athletes hahahahhah they are good good.
He practically lived in the training rooms at SM Entertainment.)
That's why he improved so quickly.
It´s still hard to watch this without crying. Shinee forever 💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
fun fact all this SM Halloween party have start because of SHINee same for the Video Dancing performance that you see groupe do now, have start with SHINee (SHINee are like the Pilar of Kpop they have start or creat almost everything you see right now in kpop with few other of 2nd gen) , (& a lot of new kpop fan who know only BTS & don't want to learn more about other ,a lot of them try to take SHINee down (& some other old groupe too & disrespecting them), saying SHINee copy BTS or are not good, when SHINee have done nothing wrong , but they do this cause they see that SHINee are still praize by media & other artist & they don't like it, it's a fact of course not all of the BTS fans are like that but a huge part are (they're known to be one of the most toxic fandom & are even proud of it so ) anyway , it's being 15 years that i'm in the kpop world i know almost all the groupes ,i saw everyone debuting & back then it was really less toxic than now, sadely, Anyway. by the way V is one of their fan.
Many industry persons have named it as SHINee genre of music coz their discography is so different but have that SHINee colour to it ..
The key lyrics state: "I am more than the perceptions in your head."
Then along comes "Move".
Here are some examples of how inventive he can get with his performances:
"Door"; The First Tour, Budokan, 2017: ua-cam.com/video/GU22bs5cg5A/v-deo.html
"Soldier+Rise"; Sirius Concert, 2018: ua-cam.com/video/Pm6Ab2T5buo/v-deo.html (Taemin wrote "Soldier"; just an intro here)
"Identity"; T1001101 Concert, 2019: ua-cam.com/video/EWzMMlCS9_U/v-deo.html
"Heaven"; Beyond Live NGDA Concert, 2021: ua-cam.com/video/Gi4jAxsk55g/v-deo.html (Utilizing Taemin's custom 3-tiered, slope-lift stage.)
"The Rizzness"; "Metamorph" Concert, 2023: ua-cam.com/video/h5aSAF4RUM0/v-deo.html (I'll let the fancam explain it all. Suffice it to say, we were all terrified for Taemin's safety! But, then again, Taemin likes to push the boundaries.)
"Criminal"; Metamorph Concert, 2023: ua-cam.com/video/KsjO2DE7MtE/v-deo.html (Yeah, no denying his masculinity in this one. This was also his last solo concert for SM. He gave it his all.)
"Guilty"; Metamorph Concert, 2023: ua-cam.com/video/X5iv8gGJavc/v-deo.html
After being with SM for SHINee for 16 years and just shy of 10 years as a soloist with them (their very first soloist from an active boy group, btw), Metamorph was Taemin's last work with SM Entertainment.
Here's a peak at the three opening songs of the concert (all fancams so should be safe): "Deja Vu" (written by Taemin); "Guilty", and "Advice": ua-cam.com/video/0PHURCx0YR0/v-deo.html
I suggest watching the entire concert (it's on YT), but if I had to choose one more song, the only other performance I would love you to see is his revised "Heaven" performance. Taemin rearranged the score to add more orchestral music and renewed the entire performance. It's absolutely stunning: ua-cam.com/video/JoGkldI1nuc/v-deo.html
Enjoy!
Shinee is not underated, its consistent..we may not attract new fans as much but we have the most consistent fans.
shinee aren't underrated, shawol just don't care as much about views/streams so their popularity tends to go under the radar for people new to the kpop scene that seems to think the world runs off who has the most views now
Minhoo is my favorite in SHINee. Because of Minhoo I knew about kpop . Minhoo is the first person I knew in kpop . Minhoo is so athletic. I love him so much ❤❤❤. Love from bangladesh 🇧🇩
Just FYI, its Minho, not Min-hoo.
i love SHINee!!i always expect SHINee reaction😢 because i think your reaction is very well in other reaction.❤ from Taiwan fans
Thank you for this reaction ❤️❤️
Yayy thank you for reacting to this guide!! Jjong actually created a lot in his short time as a solo artist, he's actually my favourite solo artist out of shinee (and maybe all kpop) 💎 there something so masterful and playful in his work, and so incredibly authentic feeling ❤ his voice and works are by far the most fun to listen to for me (except maybe all of Shinee together 😚)
Ps.
Thank u....from the deep of my heart ❤️
Welcome, to Shinee world❤
와우..편집최고네요👍
Shinee will always be my fav
Shinee is unique ♥
Kings of K-pop: Super Junior and Big Bang
Princes of K-pop: SHINee
Gods of K-pop: TVXQ/DBSK
😊❤😊
Compared to other groups in SM , SM debuted shinee with image of self producing idols with Jonghyun at front line who was exceptional..while other SM groups like exo on wards were given a storyline ,concept and sound so SM were more strict on them regarding taking their works if that didn't suit their view for the group as whole..and during the TVXQ lawsuit ..it was shown that any songs even if written by the members or composed are owned by SM still and not the members, idk if that contract changed after the lawsuit but yeah...SM knows how to pick thier idols and have a slave contract....
Shinee!!!!
Shinee legends
Totally unrelated to the theme of the video, but Theo, I need to know the model of you watch lol please
Therefore you will still see green and blue and aqua colors being used in things to do with SHINee, as well as all the members solo content.)
*You have to remember that SHINee debuted in 2008 during second generation, which was the Kpop era when everything you think of as part of Kpop today was being invented, so fan culture was way different back then.

Onew is not main vocal. He is just one of vocal. Main vocal is Jonghyun. SHInee has one main vocal and 4 vocals
