@@falhasc0me No he said it because he knows he is not the Dosan described by the letters. The Dosan from the letters is someone caring and supportive who would have looked for her if he was deeply committed. JiPyeong was not that and this is why he did not looked for her for 15 years.
JiPyeong only had feelings for Dalmi since playing Go Stop at his home. If he was in Love with her 18 years ago when he was 19 and she was 12, that means he was a seriously perverted sicko.
You can feel lighter only if you tell the truth.
To Jipyeong the letters initially didn’t mean much but a chore, a task and maybe a novelty of curiosity that pleases Grandma-reason why he didn’t understand any of it, especially its deeper meaning found through Dalmi’s responses, and contrast that with Dosan’s whom at first glance of those letters immediately felt its story, its true meaning, and its significance at present times, it gave him ‘ambition’ that transformed him into someone deserving of Dalmi.
Dosan later developed an affection far greater than any pursuit that he has had in his life as he met Dalmi, her impact in his life consumed him... and he began to appreciate everything about her- something that Jipyeong never have gone through... he thought wrong, as he only acted out as a gatekeeper, a facilitator, and a taskmaster out to ensure the welfare of Grandma and her granddaughter Dalmi, and not as a lover. He later became a better version of himself after realizing that he didn’t have control over Dalmi’s heart and as he listened to Grandma that being a better person to everyone, not just to her and Dalmi, is likewise a way to show his love and affection for Grandma.
Dalmi had the luxury of seeing first hand who the real Dosan of the old letters was, in the elevator scene.. clearly as it unfolded, anyone witnessing the debate of the two, Dosan and Jipyeong could easily conclude that its Dosan and not Jipyeong who got it! .... a grasp of the true meaning of those letters of old, her dreams, her aspirations, and her perspective of life itself. This scene in the locked elevator determined it for Dalmi, it was her heart that figured it out forher, and its the real Nam DoSan... her soulmate.
Why did the writers give us a full jidal backstory making us want them to end up together only to destroy us with the ending T^T

Right. It was so forced. They gave him that dialogue just to make dosan look good. It was really unnecessary. Han took all the blame so that dalmi doesn’t feel guilty. I didn’t even want jidal endgame anymore bcz han is way too good for all of them. There should have been another time jump, he would move on and find someone who would love him unconditionally. He has been everyone’s sandbox throughout the series but what did he get? So poorly written script.
I agree, the dialogue was very inconsistent with how the character would react. Honestly, episode 15 made me feel like there would be a heart wrenching ending for Ji pyeong but instead it looked like they tried hard to please both sides of the fanbase with a generic wrap towards character arcs and a collective moment of moving forward to leave fans on an ease.
I would have preferred a complex sad ending consistent with the second lead rather than a fabricated fairy tale ending inconsistent with the narrative and the characters attributes. I’m interested to see what the minority thinks tbh.

it still riles me up to hear ji pyeong say that the size of dosan's hands outweighed the letters that provided comfort and a friend to dalmi. dalmi waited years and based a her life around jp but then ended up with a complete stranger who she interacted with for a few months and who pretended to be her first love. Dear writer... make it make sense!!!

I'M SO SAD, he deserved a better ending aaaaa i'm mad at the writers for not giving him his resolution earlier cause the love triangle storyline was dragged till the end and ugh how exhausting, but anyway- han jipyeong deserves happiness forever and overall, there was a lot of wasted potential ://

I just watched the last episode. I'm in pain T-T I think it was not bad, but I still wasn't quite satisfied. I think because Han Ji Pyeong became the sole reason I watched this drama til the end and that's why I desperately wanted him to be really happy by the end. I loved the cameo of Yeo Jin Goo so much and it was so heartwarming that Ji Pyeong decided to invest in something for his personal gain. I think one of the reasons Ji Pyeong was disappointed that Dal Mi was good at dealing on her own with that reporter was, because he felt useless, Not needed anymore. That's also the reason he desperately wanted to do something for Grandma. He wanted to feel needed and not lonely anymore. I seriously can't say if he wasn't lonely by the end of this episode and that's where I feel pain the most. I was kind of bitter that not one single picture of Ji Pyeong was hanging on the wall of Dal Mi's and Do San's desk... so maybe in the end they never really became friends. They just became business partners. I desperately wanted Ji Pyeong to be a part of a family or have really close friends. I think Han Ji Pyeong is a beautiful written character. It's been a long time that I was so emotionally invested in a drama character and a second lead on top. Start Up was a good drama overall. I think I loved the beginning more tho, they messed up in the middle with cliche break up and stuff and I lost my interest in most part of the drama except Han Ji Pyeong. The character is this drama, who really made me cry buckets of tears and suffer with them were Han Ji Pyeong, Grandma and Seo Chung Myung, Dal Mi's father!

Han Ji Pyeong emotions were brutally crushed even though he sacrificed everything. He didn't do anything wrong, and was not given any chance to proof himself worthy of Dalmi's love. Dalmi just loved Do San's hand? And the last part Dalmi was like "Do I need a reason to love you?"
Yes Dalmi, you need reasons to love someone. Reasons like sacrifices to make Dalmi happy, efforts to make her successful, taking care of her, ensuring her safety, etc. since childhood.

in the few last episodes Dalmi was finally opening up to Jipyeong. She was being comfortable with him and it pisses me off how she changed her behavior in that elevator scene because Dosan was there.
It’s funny because certain people try to imply that those who didn’t agree with the ending didn’t understand the story. I understood what they were trying to say, but that doesn’t stop it from being BS xD

I wanted them to end up together. Life of Han Ji-pyeong is unfair from the beginning and it ended in a really sad way. I cried. Thanks to the directors and casts for showing the reality. My story almost resembles Han Ji-pyeong, I felt him totally. But this is how life is supposed to be.

Wow you literally captured HJP's essence, this man gave it his all, but they didn't give him what he deserve. Thank you for this video, this man can't be a second lead anymore, he deserves leads and to have incredible endings. He is so so talented and he should literally do another drama with Suzy, because we need it.

The most traumatizing part about StartUp is that the parallels are totally nonsense. I don't believe in coincidence so I'm hanging to that 1% chance, there is no such thing as coincidence in this world! But sucks, they wasted these beautiful souls for business? PHR could pull off a very good ending for everyone but they ruined it. I know PHR wants to have a promising ending but I don't know what happened that the scripts were revised 3x, I wonder what the original story was. It lingers and I miss Han Jipyeong :'(

Me too, held onto the 1% till the end! Especially PHR always ties symbolism, parallels well and give justice to all her characters in her previous works. I think she was pressured to have that ending cause it doesn’t makes sense... still confused... but at the end I found another favorite actor #kimseonho, will be following his next projects!!! ❤️❤️
I knew I couldn't handle this SLS after the first episode, so I bowed out rather than put myself through that, but I've been watching your videos to follow how the drama was progressing and I was really really really hoping they would surprise us....I'm sad it didn't work out but thank you so much for all these amazing videos, especially this one to that particularly heart wrenching song!

i thought i'd be okay. I'd "coolly" accept the ending the drama served. and for some time I was. then I watched this video and now I am crying with actual tears rolling down my eyes. I am sobbing and crying because its so unfair..so so so unfair whatever happened.
Ella!! This is PERFECTION! You are killing it with this drama. I could not look away---those parallels at the end really got to me: their faces through the mailbox, the elevator clips, the plant in the car. And the song is so good, I love the way you edited to it!! I adored his character so much. It really was a waste of their chemistry, but I guess the writers weren't expecting KSH to kill it like that and make everyone fall for him instead lol. The first time a second lead outshone the main lead imo (even one as cute as do san). Now on to to better things for KSH! We shall support him in his next drama

The most intriguing, most memorable, most lovable character in this series is that of Mr.Han.
Dal mi missed the boat!
Mr. Han is the one that got away.
The screenwriter got lost and failed miserably.
From my completely biased point of view, there is absolutely nothing romantic between Dal mi and Do san.
The way the screenwriter erases the significance of the letters between JP and Dal mi is so lame if not contrived and pathetic: since Dal mi and JP both benefited from reading the letters they wrote each other in their youth, their feelings should cancel out and become zero, just like in a mathematical equation. How conveniently rational! And Dal mi seems more than happy to accept JP's assertion that he is not the Nam Do san from the letters. All problems are solved! Wow! SMH...

The reasoning of him not being the Dosan in the letters are just so hypocritical 🤣 apparently JP should’ve looked for her during those 15 years for his love to count but is also counteracted with if he did love her back then, he’d be a dirty pedo.. The fact that he had to openly discredit himself and pass his history to DS shows how strong his character is compared to DS.

Jipyeong es un personaje hermoso y saben porque, el es perfecto, dulce y mil veces perfecto hay mucha gente que adora a Nam Do San pero digo osea ¿Que les pasa? Y también estoy muy molesta con la escritora porque nos dio un personaje que sufre y sufrió mucho osea es huérfano, no tiene amigos ni a Dal Mi osea Jipyeong se merece felizidad osea si no lo querían dejar con Dal Mi siquiera denle a alguien más esto es horrible me chocó esta serie porque yo la veía con la esperanza de que Jipyeong fuera feliz solo un momento solo un MOMENTO 😭😪 y el es super lindo porque el organizó todo, el encontró a Do San, también le dio su pasado y todo para que Dal Mi fuera feliz y a ella se le ocurre amar a un completo extraño que no debería de estar ahí, osea el tiene todo familia, amigos y a Dal Mi. No recomiendo esta serie es muy frustrante

I'm sueweetie after all and Suzy's acting was perfect too but i should confess Kim Seon Ho was the only reason for me to watch drama on go. And i think the plot was amount of mess since first half of drama was insisting on how letters were important for Dalmi & Jipyeong and then the importance started to dissapear like there was no diffrence between Jipyeong who actually wrote the letters and nam dosan who pretended to write them. It really really really disappointed me. Still very glad of knowing prince dimple Seon Ho and i'm an absolute SEONHOHADA FOREVER* 😁💜

Dalmi and then Jipyeong were by far the two most developed characters in the drama which is why people liked them. Dosan and even the grandmother was underdeveloped. Check out my thoughts on why I think Dalmi suffered from the impostor syndrome and how Jipyeong helped her overcome it! #teamJipyeong

actually I am still watching this korean drama for epsode 5, and I am falling inlove wiht the character of Mr. Han. I m so curious to guess the ending. i wish it will be mr. han n dal mi.. then i m watching the last episode and yaahh... Mr han still alone n dal mi married with do san.. suddenly, it breaks my heart... how can the ending like this.. even I still have 10 eposod more.. but I know Mr. Han has More love for dalmi with his way... 😔😔😞😞 so I decide to skip 10 episode.. I dont wanna to watch the sorrow of mr. Han..

This story is a brilliant scenario, totally hashed by everyone involved in it's production. BTW, that specifically excludes the actors, etc. Especially liable for this farce is the screenwriting team and director. Dal-mi is totally unbelievable s a CEO, start-up or otherwise. You can't be successful at that whilst being a clueless, naive, emotional dolt. Not a dolt? She wondered what was wrong about the "letter writer" not matching up as a person with the writer, and did nothing to pursue her suspicions. she had no clue from beginning to end regarding the interplay between Do-san and Ji-pyeong. Her reactions to the situations her company was in were entirely emotional, not rational. Do-san was a rat from beginning to end, showing no personal growth at all. He was remorseful only when caught, and only long enough to avoid disaster, when he went right back to his sleazy, conniving manipulations. Ji-pyeong acted honorably throughout, except by continuing the deception he was lying to his "one true love" and failing to protect his own legitimate interests in pursuing her. That kind of behavior is foolish, at least. Grandma at least recognized her mistake, even though she couldn't figure out how to "fix it". Not smart enough to know nothing but the truth would do any good. And that came way too late, largely due to her efforts to keep it buried. totally unethical and immoral behavior. One can sympathize, sorta, but not condone. Sister is the only successful character, in terms of personal growth, in the series. She finally can=me to understand what a rat her "Dad" was, walked away from the money and power, and started the reconciliation process first with Grandma, and slightly with Dal-me. Bravo. At least, Dal-me ended up with the guy she deserved, leaving Ji-pyeong free to find someone actually worthy of him.
This story could/should have been great, and would have been if handled as a tragedy, al la Romeo and Juliet, or as a romantic drama as Mr. Sunshine or Chocolate, or Just Between Lovers (aka Rain or Shine on American Netflix). As a romantic dramedy, it qualifies as good only as a light comic opera entertainment, not worth much in the long run. You won't find a Lady Go Ae Shin or Lee Ji An here. Nor will you find a Eugene Choi or Park Dong Hoon.
It's an own goal show. "...Coulda been a contender." Infuriating. I've come to expect this kind of writing from American TV, not Korean.
Now that I know, that jipyeong and dalmi are not togehter in Future, I will end the series now on Episode 4. It is so sad to Think about a Bad end for the good Boy.. :( only time waste
